Hygelac	Posted - 2005.05.27 18:23:00 - [1] - Mercenary Coalition Statement - I would like to announce that from this moment onwards, Sharks with Frickin' Laser Beams [FRICK] are renouncing piracy. In order to celebrate this decision some of the Sharks went on a pirating expedition to celebrate the old times, I can only apologize if you got caught up in the celebrations and hope the hangover wasn't too bad. For the longest time we have mercilessly stolen the panties of any innocents we could find whilst not on contract, but we have come to realize that we are damaging the client base that we are hoping to develop as mercenaries. Apparently killing people who would pay you to kill someone else is bad for business, I wont pretend to understand the complexities of this, but I'm game to try out new and interesting things. We will still be the eccentric, panty-stealing haiku-loving Sharks of yore, but from this point forward we are pure Mercenaries. Finally, please be aware that if any member of Sharks, or the MC in general are the victim of an unprovoked attack, we will retaliate with lethal and somewhat lemony flavoured force. If you ever underestimate them, you will die. There are, without a doubt, lots of bad mercenary corps out there which are definitely not worth their money.

This is a real problem that we are struggling to deal with. We have tried very hard to not shoot "neutrals" only to have these same people come back ten minutes later with friends and try to gank us. It happened again last night a couple of times as well. Then there is the situation where a known enemy is shooting at you and a "neutral" interceptor shows up less than 10km from you. What do you do? Risk getting scrambled or BBQ the guy? In combat it only takes a few seconds between keeping or losing your ship. In short, especially in light of FRICK's announcment, labeling the MC as a whole or even an individual corp as pirates does nothing more than show your complete and total ignorance of how we operate and the pains we take to avoid actually doing what certian people wish to believe. Thank you to all the positive comments in this thread. We neither claim nor beleive ourselves to be "the best", but we do try. I remember when I first joined Sharks we had a huge debate about what piracy was and in all honesty we didn't really come to any hard and fast truths about it. I consider piracy as going after someone of >-5.0 security standings without provocation or the courtesy of a war declaration. And even that probably misses the mark, as many have pointed out: There's a fine line, if any, between mercing and pirating. But look on the bright side, if we're coming after you, at least you get a warning now :D On Fed's statement that we're all pirates anyway, I respect CELES for what they've tried to do, but from my time as a member of CELES, I have to say that I found the black and white view of Eve far too simplistic. Eve, like the real world, contains many shades of grey and filtering them all to either black or white, looses half the beauty of the game.
