Valkris Arkayne wrote:'Cute' is going to be difficult to agree on, since everyone has a different set of features they prefer. I do a lot of professional character art and have some suggestions... but please feel free to ignore them all :)
- Firstly, she looks distinctly worried. You need to made sure the inside points on the eyebrows aren't the highest point. Bring down and seperate the inner portions of the eyebrow.
- Second, move the eyebrwos apart a little. You can actually see the worry-wrinkles in her brow - that's not very appealing (imo).
- Next, her nasal bridge is too strong - a characteristic that usually comes with age. If you soften the bridge some, she'll look younger and stereotypically 'cuter'.
- The tip of her nose seems a bit low, another characteristic that appears with age. If you raise the tip up a little, she'll look younger.
- Have her engage the viewer by looking at us, as opposed to looking at some off-camera interest. It's more interesting and engaging if she's looking at us, as if the viewer is the most interesting subject at the moment. It's all about subtle.
- Her teeth are not attractive. I'd recommend closing her mouth a bit more.
- If possible, I'd recommend getting rid of the lines between her cheeks and mouth. They imply more worry/age.
Just a few ideas. Good luck! :)
somehow the forum ate up my posted text! :(
But im really honored to see a pro replying! I tried to follow your tips best I can, with some modifications :)
idk what I can do about the nose because I like straight noses, and the cheek lines appear if she smiles at all it seems. But tell me how it looks now! http://i1305.photobucket.com/albums/s559/pryox/20121227044244_zps1b33ac54.jpg

Always bet on stupid, CCP can't patch stupid. The measure of success in Eve is not monetary worth, it's how effectively you can bend others to your will. |

Thanks!!!!!!!!! Couldnt have done it without you guys help!
Acac Sunflyier wrote:I could help!
First step, you need to make softer features. women don't have much testosterone. So, we have smaller and finer features. Secondly, I know how guys are about boobs and butts, but try to be realistic about body proportions (don't go FFF but go for some lift and separate).
Secondly, know that your complexion should determine your make up color. If she's going to be fair skin uses a lighter touch than a darker skinned character. Also, our eye color determines a lot about the eye shadow, which in turn determines blush. If it's hazel, brown, or green, go with an earth color. If her eyes are blue, go with pinks and blues.
Also pick good hair colors. See how mine has contrasting high lights with the natural character? Try going as natural as possible (i.e. avoid pink and blue hairs).
Finally, the portrait. Pick a color scheme. I've gone very black and white. Ask a photographer how to make a good picture. I took a class and understood aspects of lighting and positioning. So, I had a little advantage.
Shoot I didnt see this until now! I'll read it and try to apply your tips! Thanks!

Wowzers... that's bad. ..should have stuck with the original, but follow the advice of that lady up there. It's starting t look more it than she atm; very masculine lines as it is now, while still appearing to be a female..maybe.
At this point, I'd probably start over. ..yes, I've mucked up a face very nearly that badly before. Best to just go up to that little refresh-like button up at the top and click it once or twice. No one will blame you. zubzubzubzubzubzubzubzub |

Agreed - the lastest version is headed in the right direction. Open her eyes up a little so she doesn't look sleepy, and I think you're getting close. Though she's not 'cute' in my mind (mouth is too broad and nose too strong for my tastes), she's looking very real now. |

Narrow that chin down a bit and you've got it I think For all the work you've put in on this, I'd say you deserve to finish up and call it good.
..not to say there's anything wrong with a woman with a strong jaw; just that these aren't often so much strong as exagerated protuberances. Depends on the subtype really. zubzubzubzubzubzubzubzub |

The key is to have an open jacket with no shirt. If you can manage that then it doesn't matter what the rest of it looks like. It's about time CCP stops catering to the lazy players with this sense of entitlement for fear of losing money. These aren't the people making the game better, these are the people wanting you to turn EVE in to a game that is like most other MMO's. |

Lets just say that OP and I differ on what cute means, even the updated version looks like a train wreck to me :P
There's some good characters around, now and then you see really good character designs and while I have no clue on what the official "rules" are for getting it right they all seem to have the same characteristics:
- good lighting -- no straight on angles - no hard colours - nothing is maxed out
Acac has some good tips, also you could google for one of the many avatar contests there have been and get inspiration from that. Amat victoria curam. Excellence in everything. |

Here's a tip, squint your eyes so the sculp is blurry then mould the shapes until it looks "right". Tis' what you do in real sculpting/painting. I lol'd.
OP, you'd be best off finding an irl artist friend to sit at your computer and sculpt the character in the UI.
there are ratios and rules to follow when sculpting a face, just like if you were drawing one.
I'm not going into tutorials here, I do enough of that as a mod on an art site................... http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Buckingham Buckingham is my Vanilla Sky ||-áVincent Athena, I made something for you: http://i.imgur.com/hrxcc.jpg |

Here's an idea.
Spam the random button until you have the face you want. Then tweak the body, then tweak the clothes.
That's what I did for most of my characters and I'm fine with it. |

Small nose. Small mouth. Big eyes. [NOT Gollum-style] That's the hallmark of a baby's face, which we are genetically programmed to think as being cute. Symmetrical faces are also more attractive than asymmetrical faces.
Makeup shouldn't be one colour, and should be sparingly applied [NOT Tammy Faye-style]. Accentuate facial features (especially eyes and lips), or soften / hide them, using makeup.
Look to others for examples (these are not mine): https://image.eveonline.com/Character/1100933456_512.jpg https://image.eveonline.com/Character/90342909_512.jpg
Play with poses and lighting too. Often that can help accentuate or hide features. |
