I've been told from many sources that the problem with 0.0 POS is the trade items they like to gobble. So even if you mine your own ice locally, you still need to make long and dangerous hauls from the empire.
Wouldn't it make more sense if those trade items were sold from 0.0 npc stations too? Maybe even a bit cheaper as part of "help 0.0" strategy and 0->empire trade runs.

They need to make it so the trade items can be made in 0.0 space only. Sell bp's and take them to 0.0 for production. |

that'd definatly be useful, but come on, a single mk5 can fuel a pos for about a week easily, it isn't that hard

Its not the mining that makes people mad. Its the hauling into 0.0 that scares the carebears. What needs to be understood is a word they should know well ... convoy!!! Lets put the petal to metal and let the smokies cry!!!!
See ya all in space good buddies. 10-4

The cost of a convoy easily doubles the cost of the the items, and let's not forget the additional cost of the haulage and the risk factor. In effect, my guess would be that 0.0 POS must be 2x in trade fuels worth.
Let's not forget, time/people=money.
Ooh, and on the relevant comment: I got itty5 since, ooh, forever ;P

with the freighters coming out, one trip is all it takes to supply a pos for monthes. they will probably be sold at the first 0.0 outpost built, for a markup.

An itty 5 may be able to take the whole lot at once, but a sigil with 5 nanos, and a cloak is next to unstoppable when it comes to running through blockades :). Not to mention being fast enough to use without resorting to insta-routes :)

That fact they are not producable or sold in 0.0 is intended.
POS in 0.0 need some supply from empire. That's it. They were designed to. Freighter will alleviate the timesink, but not much of the risk. But then again, that's the whole idea again. Risk is simply part of the game. _______________________________________________

It might be intended but I don't like it at all. If CCP wants people in 0.0 why force players to be dependent on the old and obsolete empires when they want people to build up their own?
CCP has gotten into the habit of heavily pre-nerfing new additions to the game, I guess it's the safe way to do it but it still annoys the crap out of me.

being able to completely isolate yourself from empire would be great, atm i'm only going back to buy/sell rare items/mins and to pick up fuel

It probably is their way to promote trading from empire to 0.0 and vv instead of seperating the two.
I dont think they mean for either empire or 0.0 communities to ever be able to stand on their own completely, and I am inclined to agree with that.
