As if the lawsuit is about the actual claims of the lawsuit... nobody there ACTUALLY believes any of that, not the plaintiffs, nor the judges. However, it's about gaming the law and what can be proven, even if the obvious responsibility lies somewhere else from a common sense perspective. That's why it's called a law court, they play the law game, where, just like in tennis, they pass the official blame ball from one side to the other until somebody deflects it out of the provable bounds and they lose :p http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/User:Akita_T T2 BPO poll: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=114789 Buying this: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=147098 |

Agreed.
But it is damaging to the already fragile intellectual state of America....which is almost non-existent at this time.

TBQFH, I fear there's a small chance America will turn into the Christian version of "1979's Iran" eventually, so there's a lot more to be worried about than frivolous greedy lawsuits. But I digress.
People these days are actually smarter, but they act a lot dumber due to lack of proper education. And the entitlement culture instilled from early on doesn't help at all either. Frankly, as long as parents insist more on schools that act more like daytime jails for their kids rather than a place of learning, focusing on cheap teachers that have little interest in teaching because they have to act more like nannies, and as long as this nonsense about child coddling continues, education will keep declining, and the "apparent IQ" will keep on dropping. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/User:Akita_T T2 BPO poll: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=114789 Buying this: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=147098 |

"Fast Times at Ridgemont High" is brilliant and all that but it has led to this:
I mean, seriously, look at the portrayal of highschools and jails in TV shows and movies. Does anybody have the gonadal fortitude to claim they're not disgustingly similar, after you adjust for the obvious mandatory differences ?
Best portrayal of High School in America was definitely Richard Linklater's "Dazed and Confused", imho.
I must say that in a way I do when I type 'David Lynch's' with as much respect. GÇ£Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.GÇ¥ GÇò Oscar Wilde |

Funny tidbit about Romania : religion is now a default (but with alleged parental write-in opt-out) class staring from the "0th" grade (they moved the last year of kindergarten to the school). This is in a country that's supposedly a secular democracy. Yes, they TEACH RELIGION BY DEFAULT in school to 6 year olds, and up to 19 year olds. And not the history of religions or anything like that, but actual church dogma with actual church-sanctioned teachers. And you get sideways looks if you try to exercise the opt-out. Then kids get into the 5th grade and start telling their science teachers that the teachers are wrong and they won't learn what they teach them, because the religion teacher they had 5 years running told them science is evil. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/User:Akita_T T2 BPO poll: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=114789 Buying this: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=147098 |

I actually think much of it is the fault of schools, pretending memorization is intelligence. People aren't taught to think for themselves, and end up as adults who still look for others to tell them what to think. Bane Necran wrote:much of it is the fault of schools, pretending memorization is intelligence To be fair, the memory side is part of the intelligence, though. But since it's more CONVENIENT (and cheaper) to test for memory rather than general intelligence... Yup, that's part of the problem indeed. But not all school systems are like that, and some that are weren't in the past. Poorly paid teachers (especially those with very little actual authority) are a huge part of the above-mentioned problem. Most of the rest is political influence over the school curricula composition, but I digress again. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/User:Akita_T T2 BPO poll: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=114789 Buying this: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=147098 |

I accidentally lucked out especially in the 10th grade with an 'English Teacher' who had a PhD in French Literature from Rice University n Houston, TX. (Her thesis was "Castration Symbolism in Jean Paul Sartre's "Nausea" )
BUT...
Changed my life forever.
1 teacher can make a difference.
edit: I would know nothing about art, film, or literature without her. Made us read even "The Castle of Otranto"...the foundation of all Gothic and horror literature...usually not approached until University level). GÇ£Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.GÇ¥ GÇò Oscar Wilde |

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand this is why I left.
Don't be fooled by people saying things like, "Oh, it's only a few people like that", because that's complete horseshit. OBVIOUSLY not EVERYONE is like that in the US; however, the majority of Americans would blame ANYTHING on ANYONE if they thought they could profit from it. If it weren't so, then laws would be enacted to prevent frivolous lawsuits such as this.
"Freedom" is now "free dumb" in the US. Get out while you still can. |
