Edited by: Fred0 on 13/06/2005 13:39:32 I agree with the rastaman. Frigs are way overpowered imho. Bring the equivalent of ISK value in frigs to a bs fleet and the bs is toast. You'll see that frigs are more than 20 times as effective as bs when it comes to ISK ratio. That is counting about 7-10 standard frigs to take on a bs.
Secondly. I hardly even bother to engage frigs in my bs anymore for the sole reason it's a purely one sided fight. I commit to the fight, but they don't put anything on the line.

Because it's the absolute simplest and smartest way of having any resemblance of balance in pvp. In three words this epitomises: Risk versus Reward.

Originally by: Kunming Lets say we are fighting together in 2 BSs vs some frigs, we sit 40-50km away from each other. The frigs attack us and I target the ones around ur ship, you target the ones around my ship... Now the transversal of them is too high for me to kill the ones around my BS with my large turrets but I can easyly pop the ones around ur BS, u do the same and its all over in a short time.
See what I mean now?
40-50k is not enough. I need to go above 120k to hit interceptors effectively. and that's a maxed out tempest with tracking implants on top. Granted I have the worst tracking large gun in the game, but anyway.

I've done it every day the last 3 weeks in ec-p8r versus DDC/CLS/SNRA and the last few days in Syndicate. You are wrong in my experience. Now you try it.
And don't try and use rl analogies. pls.

Edited by: Fred0 on 13/06/2005 20:53:25 DC, the fundamental design of this game means there is already a counter for everything in this game. I'll agree that bigger is normally considered better but that's the way this game was built from the beginning. They are supposed to be better. [edit: look at slots, cost of build, pg and cpu for example, they are higher ranking.]
However, all the variables are still there to play with. I don't see a tackler and gank ships squad as a winbutton as you seem to indicate they are. There are counters to speed and high damaging turrets, and we're already seeing them come into play.
EVE was constructed pretty darn good and robustly with the fundamentals imho since not even the devs are managing to screw it up.

Originally by: Maxine Stirner What then is the point of specializing in frigates if they are absolutely obsolete technology? Extrapolating from this, if frigates are absolutely worthless, why is it worth anything to train up cruisers if no one ought to take a frigate onto the battlefield anyhow? To fly HACs and take on Battleships? With the same amount of skills you could fly a Battleship and be even more effective, possibly in two ethnicities of Battleships.
Now this is why you shouldn't try to go einstein on EVE. Coming up with flawed logic that says frigates are useless. I myself, do almost solely pvp. And battleships are the pinnacle of pvp combat. (everything in the game is pvp imho) which they imho should be. Because that means for the biggest buck, you get the biggest bang in the endgame (eve).
But that does not mean frigates and cruisers are useless. I still find myself using frigates and cruisers quite some of the time. Many ships still fills a role imho.

Originally by: DigitalCommunist The first part I am fine with, at long ranges your transverse is lower and if you're not careful their tracking would catch up and connect a few shots. Second part is what doesn't fly with me. A webbed interceptor will get hit at megapulse. I've been hit with tachyons at 5km. I've been hit by neutron cannons at 12km. I don't even want to talk about autocannons. So if you can kill a frigate with large guns through the combination of web and target painter, it makes Interceptors and frigs in general suicide ships against bships that have absolutely nothing in terms of frig defense. Wtf?
Now you are falling into the trap that youre blaming others for. coming up with *****pot scenarios and instances that are not common. Those hits are about as common as the taranis killing the apoc. With autocannons and a painter on the tempest I don't hit a hac under 5k if the pilot has a slight idea on how to manouvre.

The eve I play I already have absolutely no chance of escaping from a single frigate if I'm caught in my bs. There are ofcourse a few multi purpose setups like a vampire setup. But most of the anti bs setups you do already gimp if you fit anti frig on. If you manage to squeeze A couple heavy nos on your tempest or mega setup that's there for dealing damage to bs. Let me tell you the setup is not very good to begin with.
Now I don't know how you guys play but today EVE is about specialising and doing that as much as you possibly can (imho). If I go up against anyone who fit antifrig on his bs today already. I'd expect to wipe him out without much trouble.
In short I think I'm already playing the game you guys want to play, the problem must herefore lie in communications.
