Clearly there is high demand for space based sandbox MMOs if EVE can get that amount of players without content expansions for 3 years in a row.
And MMO developers continue to clone primitive Everquest / WoW themepark gameplay in Rift, LOTRO, TERA, TESO, TSW, SWTOR... |

A lack of growth (the graphs are basically flat) is evidence of decline when you consider the market is growing. Older players make more alt accounts, some players unsubscribe, and so a flat line tells us the game isn't attracting new players, or older players are leaving. EVE is outdated technologically, and there has been little attempt from CCP to seriously modernise its underlying technology. We still have bounding-sphere collision physics from 1995, and graphics from 2007. DUST is on the horizon, but it is supposed to rescue CCP rather than to rescue EVE. It's just funny how people completely ignore the fact that the collision-checks have to be done on the server and that per-triangle-collision-checks for every model in a fleet of potentially HUNDREDS simply isn't going to work. Just being able to avoid the O(n-¦) calculations to begin with is quite a feat, and being able to do it for all the potential and possible collisions that might happen between 2000 ships (and other debris on the field) in a 1s frame and still get reasonable and reliable results is rather astounding. Also, a lot of the new accounts are Dust-born from what I've gathered. They seem to want to find out what the whole fuss about inter-connectivity is about. Some seem to have acclimated, if only for the edge a capsuleer might give them in a Dust match.
They're like the little fish at the bottom of the pond that sees a bird and thinks "Hey, I want to be like that too!". Then it cuts itself in half, has one half grow wings and a beak -- except they're bunnies, not fish -- and, uh... Where was I going with this again?

Please show me the proof of the 'trending upwards' bit. and lets not add the 'expansion spikes' as they dont count..

When discussing whether or not EvE is dying I tend to pay attention to the number of subs, not number of people online at one time. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

Source: EVE Offline All time weekly average.
That by itself appears to be a statistically proven increase in average logins over time.
Active Account numbers:
2003-04 - 0-50k 2004-05 - 80k 2005-06 - 145k 2006-07 - 200k 2007-08 - 250k 2008-09 - 285k 2009-10 - 355k 2010-11 - 405k 2011 - January to approx. April 450k 2011 - April to approx. June 465k 2011 - June to approx. Dec 405k 2012 - Jan to approx. March 450k
Source: MMO Data
Again, that appears to be consistent growth, barring the glitch when the Chinese server shut down for a time, and as soon as it re-opened the numbers went back up. Obviously no-one but CCP has access to the data regarding unique accounts so it is completely impossible to gauge the number of players with multiple accounts, but the numbers still show a steady growth in online player numbers and active accounts, and thus a steady increase in income for CCP. As can been seen quite clearly in this thread, some people have a deep seated psychological interest in EVE dying.
When you get right down to it, some players of EVE really don't like EVE and would rather see the game in another form (so they think, the most probable reality is that they are just haters who gonna hate whatever is in front of them lol).
EVE in decline would validate their world views (ie "see, everyone is just like me and dislikes the same things I hate!") and would make their "EVE would get so many more subs if"/"EVE should cater more to my type of player" posts actually valid suggestions (lol).
EVE on the rise as it is and always has been means a continuation (and expansion) of an in-game hardcore, non-consensual rough and rowdy status quo that they can't stand, though for some reason they don't hate it enough to stop playing themselves.
It's almost like a communist watching people living in a capitalist country (or any 2 diametrically opposed systems really) doing really well, while everyone else is happy, the hater is seething on the inside. |

Are you completly mental?

So you see this as an uptrend? Its pretty much the same for 3 years! Honestly i am just flabbergasted.. Are you forgetting also that there are more second accounts required, especially since supers and titans where introduced?
Look SIMPLE FACT is its either declined or stayed the same sinxe 2009, its not whatsoever seen any increase or significant upward trend. I continue to look in disbelief at people trying to say otherwise.

So you see this as an uptrend? A 7% increase from the previous year, and a 2% increase before that is indeed an upwards trend. Considering the disastrous events that have happened inbetween, that's not bad at all. This is further shown in the PCU trends.
