Lul, I too can take make stuff out of numbers, I mean it's the last day of the holidays, it shouldn't be busy.. Call us back in a few months when things have settled? And great patch? Killrights system is currently broken. Suspect system has devolved into a new form of can baiting. With the sucker on the receiving end, not aware that he's the only one fighting at the end. 0.0 is a complete joke, no one with sense will go there.
Average player hours has not gotten anywhere near the peak of two years ago and the blip for this expansion didn't even reach the last one. So you keep that positive outlook, and wipe the brown stuff off your nose....

That Alliance tournament may have set the previous record in June indeed.
BUT: found this:
"On January 23, 2011, Eve Online claimed a new record for the maximum number of simultaneous pilots online with 63,170 concurrent accounts logged on to the same server. This record followed closely after the release of the fourteenth major expansion, Incursion, which included a new character creation system based on CCP's Carbon Characters technology. Eve Online typically experiences the highest number of users on Sundays and the peak player records have almost exclusively been broken on Sundays."

That depends on what you count as the rebound.
The rebound from Incarna happened with the mere news that crucible would be a feature-fix expansion, and it's largely been upwards-trending ever since. This last (massive) bump happened with Retribution, though, and while the stats might not look like it, it's been growing fairly consistently since. Christmas and New Year's have always been low-pop days GÇö apparently spending time with family and friends trumps EVE GÇö so they regularly drive down numbers to much lower than the standard pops at this time of year. This year, though, they've been very high even for being the holidays.
For comparison, look at the 2011 graph, starting just before Incarna, and the the 2012 graph. That dip-and-bump in 2011-10 was the week the Goon ice interdiciton started, only to be completely outdone by the first devblog about the changes in Crucible. As usual, we see the spring decline in 2012, followed by the normal summer riseGǪ and then a ridiculously large increase as Retribution hits. GÇ£If you're not willing to fight for what you have in GëívGëí you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.GÇ¥

Dud(ette), we all know what happened on the summer of rage. Sure, we don't have much data yet but factor in the dip after incarna and it actually looks like EVE is recovering and is in good health. We are in better shape this winter than last and PCUs has been growing steadily for a month. Yeah it is holidays but it was holidays last year too. |

A lack of growth (the graphs are basically flat) is evidence of decline when you consider the market is growing. Older players make more alt accounts, some players unsubscribe, and so a flat line tells us the game isn't attracting new players, or older players are leaving. EVE is outdated technologically, and there has been little attempt from CCP to seriously modernise its underlying technology. We still have bounding-sphere collision physics from 1995, and graphics from 2007. DUST is on the horizon, but it is supposed to rescue CCP rather than to rescue EVE. Just being able to avoid the O(n-¦) calculations to begin with is quite a feat, and being able to do it for all the potential and possible collisions that might happen between 2000 ships (and other debris on the field) in a 1s frame and still get reasonable and reliable results is rather astounding. Also, a lot of the new accounts are Dust-born from what I've gathered. They seem to want to find out what the whole fuss about inter-connectivity is about. Some seem to have acclimated, if only for the edge a capsuleer might give them in a Dust match.
They're like the little fish at the bottom of the pond that sees a bird and thinks "Hey, I want to be like that too!". Then it cuts itself in half, has one half grow wings and a beak -- except they're bunnies, not fish -- and, uh... Where was I going with this again?

When discussing whether or not EvE is dying I tend to pay attention to the number of subs, not number of people online at one time. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

I for one am happy for the upturn in players. A couple months ago, when I logged on in my TZ there was only 20-30k on. Nows its 30-40k. Good stuff. Vote for me in the next CSM Elections. I will fight for the interest of all Hi-sec dwellers. No longer will you be cast aside and disparaged. |

Source: EVE Offline All time weekly average.
That by itself appears to be a statistically proven increase in average logins over time.
Active Account numbers:
2003-04 - 0-50k 2004-05 - 80k 2005-06 - 145k 2006-07 - 200k 2007-08 - 250k 2008-09 - 285k 2009-10 - 355k 2010-11 - 405k 2011 - January to approx. April 450k 2011 - April to approx. June 465k 2011 - June to approx. Dec 405k 2012 - Jan to approx. March 450k
Source: MMO Data
Again, that appears to be consistent growth, barring the glitch when the Chinese server shut down for a time, and as soon as it re-opened the numbers went back up. Obviously no-one but CCP has access to the data regarding unique accounts so it is completely impossible to gauge the number of players with multiple accounts, but the numbers still show a steady growth in online player numbers and active accounts, and thus a steady increase in income for CCP. As can been seen quite clearly in this thread, some people have a deep seated psychological interest in EVE dying.
When you get right down to it, some players of EVE really don't like EVE and would rather see the game in another form (so they think, the most probable reality is that they are just haters who gonna hate whatever is in front of them lol).
EVE in decline would validate their world views (ie "see, everyone is just like me and dislikes the same things I hate!") and would make their "EVE would get so many more subs if"/"EVE should cater more to my type of player" posts actually valid suggestions (lol).
EVE on the rise as it is and always has been means a continuation (and expansion) of an in-game hardcore, non-consensual rough and rowdy status quo that they can't stand, though for some reason they don't hate it enough to stop playing themselves.
It's almost like a communist watching people living in a capitalist country (or any 2 diametrically opposed systems really) doing really well, while everyone else is happy, the hater is seething on the inside. |

So you see this as an uptrend? Its pretty much the same for 3 years! Honestly i am just flabbergasted.. Are you forgetting also that there are more second accounts required, especially since supers and titans where introduced?
Look SIMPLE FACT is its either declined or stayed the same sinxe 2009, its not whatsoever seen any increase or significant upward trend. I continue to look in disbelief at people trying to say otherwise.

So you see this as an uptrend? A 7% increase from the previous year, and a 2% increase before that is indeed an upwards trend. Considering the disastrous events that have happened inbetween, that's not bad at all. This is further shown in the PCU trends.

Until I read this I thought next weekend was assured to pass the old 65k record. Looks like DUST bunnies won't count? OUR LOGS SHOW NOTHING |

Looks like DUST bunnies won't count? It might not be needed. I think we will have a higher than usual login anyway when everybody wants to check out the news. However, there will probably be an even bigger interest from the Dust crowd and many of themare EVE players so that will split their attention somewhat but that will probably just mean more multiboxing than usual ... |

Eve won't die until all the alt poasting accounts get cancelled due to a lack of intrest in Eve dying.
I predict that won't happen.

It would be very interesting if CCP gave the numbers of how many unique IP addresses were online 24 months ago, 12 months ago, and today.
Yeah, the numbers the past couple weeks may show a spike of accounts online, but I am far more interested in knowing if the subscription base is broadening, or if Eve is seeing less people with more alt accounts. |

Still, probably better to be an 18 year old armchair virgin expert than an 18 year old virgin armchair expert I guess.
Besides, you can extrapolate anything you want from a graph showing annual sub levels and player activity, right, right?

Older players make more alt accounts, some players unsubscribe, and so a flat line tells us the game isn't attracting new players, or older players are leaving. EVE is outdated technologically, and there has been little attempt from CCP to seriously modernise its underlying technology. We still have bounding-sphere collision physics from 1995, and graphics from 2007. DUST is on the horizon, but it is supposed to rescue CCP rather than to rescue EVE.
This would make sense, if not for the fact that the market for this type of MMO is shrinking. If you're not a F2P MMO based on the LoL/WoT model, then odds are you've been losing subs at a fairly rapid rate, enough that MMOs are going F2P to try to scrape some cash up. |
