All of the Subscription options are significantly cheaper than buying PLEX with cash.
Annual subs come out at ~$12 compared to PLEX's ~$17.5.
If you're ISK rich enough, buying PLEX with ISK can become viable (it doesn't sound like you're ISK rich to that extent).

I feel like being pedantic. It's not illegal, just against the terms of a contract you signed (the EULA), by which CCP's remedies are essentially limited to the termination of your account.
It will not get you, as a person, in any trouble. It will get any or all of your accounts in trouble (and possibly the accounts of your friends if you've given them ISK).
But yeah, don't do it. It's doubly silly because CCP Sreeg's anti-botting and anti-RMT efforts have caused the RMT chains so much trouble in keeping supplied that their prices are roughly equal to legitimate PLEX sales (on the few sites that still supply ISK), and far higher than an annual Sub if you're just interested in subscriptions and not ISK for spending.
