pomme voice? you gotta be kidding right? Does she pronounce her consonants?
What you need is a good AUSSIE voice, like Steve Irwin.
Just imagine "crikey" and "struth" every time you take shield damage.
That would rule.:)

Now that would cool

Just a thought..
But if we have voice overs that give tutorials, why not put the Quafe Queen to use? I say have her host a video game tutorial explaining the basic of things. I know even though I'm a veteran of the game and already know how to do most tasks, I'll still be watching it just for the Queen

I have to say I want a computer that sounds like a computer, keep the old, just expand upon it. I don't like the new voice.

I think they should definitely get the same person who did the tutorial mission's voiceover to do the ship voiceset, whoever at CCP that was. Not that the voice is particularly amazing or anything, it'd just be nice and consistent since in the tutorial he says he's your ship's computer. It's either that or admit that ship's computers have multiple personalities.
I think it would be very cool to have a different voice for the computer (and the tutorial) for each race. There are only four races, it'd be a little effort and would go a long way. They don't all use the same type of computer. I imagine the Caldari are very fond of buttons and levers, the Gallente have a holographic buxom lady as an interface (kind of like Andromeda), the Minmatar use their etch-a-sketch and the Amarr, well.. they have a ten day long religious ceremony just to turn their computers on.

Edited by: Cobracure on 21/06/2005 05:33:15 If you want a definitive sexy computer female voice for Eve then I would like something along the lines of Eva from Command and Conquer Tiberian Dawn / Sun.
That was spot on.
I also agree the voice HAS to sound simulated AND PLEASE resample the warp sound (some of us play late at night and have neighbours to consider) - its a good sound just QUIETER!!!
EDIT: The poster above makes a good point - different computer voice for the 4 races (in a similar way to the Mentat from Dune2 / Dune 2000 - anyone remember that?)
(Yes I'm a bit of a RTS fan as well)

I have an idea
How about hiring Arnold Schwarzenegger to do the auto pilot voices?!
English is his second language but at least he sounds like a computer. Selling Raven BPC ME20 3M at Yulai 1st Station |

the current computerized voice for messages is just fine. the silly voice from the test server can go elsewhere.
if i have to cough up an argument for keeping the old one, it sounds much more inline with the role of an "automated ship computer message" than the new one, hence adds to the immersion.
also, yes turn down the warp sounds please. they are way too loud.

Edited by: Lythius Arcturnus on 21/06/2005 07:46:39 Putting the new ones in would be fine as long as an option box to use the old ones was added as well.
Its a win win if the players are given the option.
It could be a lose lose if if some people don't like the new ones and don't have a choice.
Im a big fan of keeping as much of the aesthetics of a game as constant as possible. Its the little things that make a game feel "familiar" to alot of players. Messing with the little things too much can irritate some players.
An example would be when the new player models came out for EverQuest. Some loved them, and some hated them. Players had the options, so it wasn't a really big deal. I hated them however, and if I was required to run the new models without the choice of having the old, it would have really been a huge negative to me as far as enjoyment of the game.
Just my 2 cents.

Hell, set up a few and let us choose what we want.
I like the Michael Cain idea but Steve Irwin, now that would just be bloody hillarious. Then we could choose his voice when we go out in our little frigates and try to take on something alot bigger.
Would actually spurr on quite a few for the mad dash into 0.0
'Whoor look mate, a big blob of Evol and Moo are waiting the other side of that gate. Most dangerous animals in Eve. Let see if we can stick our head in the middle of it. '
No offence meant on the animals reference. We all are.. :) Ye go on lets see if we can stick our head in it

I've only heard a couple of phrases of the new voice (SiSi's not my friend ), but I like it. She sounds similar to the woman who did some of the narration for Perimeter to me.
The bit I don't like (from one of the samples) is when you get:
"Dear Pod Pilot, I hope you don't consider this to be an excessive amount of prying on my behalf, but it has just came to my attention that your most recent choice of skill has completed its training process.
"Now, far be it for me, a humble Ship's Computer, to be offering a Pod Pilot like yourself advice, but I would just like to take this opportunity (and I hope you don't consider it too forward) to suggest that now might be a pertinent time to consider your next avenue of learning, and start training a new skill as soon as is reasonably possible, to minimise the amount of time that is lost.
"Thank you for allowing me to bring this matter to your attention. Yours sincerely, Ship Computer."
Okay, that might be a slight exaggeration, but wouldn't "Training Complete" work just as well? -- OTO are selling Impel and Bustard transport ships. Contact Tsavong Lah or Lacero Callrisian for details. Like mining, hauling or building? Join OTO! |
