Are the English Lady Voiceovers rumours with funny sound really going into the game, or just an elaborate rumour?
From what I have heard of them to an English person they sound totally stupid, and was wondering if they are a joke or for real?

personaly i think it's a far better computer voice. just personal preference in the end and it would be nice to have the option of new and old.

I've gotta go home and install a test client so I can hear this. I'm curious now. Is it english butlerish?

I like the new female voices but i like the old ones as well. I think i like the new ones just a weeeeee bit better.
I dont like the male tutorial voice though. It also has sort of a funny accent to it. They should use the female voice here as well. ---------------------------

Edited by: Tobiaz on 20/06/2005 23:46:09 It's unbelievable how everybody complains about that dreadful warping sound and what does CCP change?
Typical CCP, isn't it?
Whoever keeps coming up with these totally pointless aesthetic changes either deserves to be fired or start working on some things that actually deserve to be giving some attention.
Wasted time:
- White paint splat instead of blue blinking NeoCom buttons.
- The new sun icon (previous patch)
- The dreadful new chatpanel (taking up now even more space AND with an already larger fort: brilliant!)
- The HORRIBLE new font (hey mixed with the old font on many places it's even uglier, because you can see how much worse it looks and much more space it takes). And guess what? 'O/ is still almost a '0' so why the new font again?
- The autopilot sounding like some english female from CNN, only cheaper. For the poor sods that play with their sound on I'm pretty sure they would like an option to keep the old one.
Maybe start here first?
- Graphics of many ships, but especially the Minmatar ones being outdated with the newer much better models released lately. And then you could also fix some graphic bugs like te placing of turrets on like the Celestis or the gaping holes and ugly stretching of the skin for like the Apoc.
- The HORRIBLE and much too loud warping and jumping sound (CTRL+ALT+Shift+F12 should be a default setting FFS)
- Stupid proportions when comparing stations with whatever is supposed to be stored in there or undocking.
- Many sloppy and unclear module icons in UI. For example the racial ECM which is just ridiculous, why is the White Noise different? Why aren't they ALL different? Or IE. the 200MM AutoCannons icons still show a transparent square around the round symbol in the ship UI. Somebody forgot to remove some transparent layers?
- 50% of the ship pictures and expecially the drones and shuttle ones being incredible sloppy. Nobody bothered to check them if the object was actually visible? Only half in the picture or zoomed in too much or zoomed out way too much and that not only with old ships, but also for the new ones!
- Ships like the Rifter and the Tempest rolling like a ship in a storm, only then in the vacuum of space. WHY FFS do some ships have this bad, and others not at all?
- The Griffin 'nuff said (please simply switch the Griffin and the Heron models, nobody uses the Heron anyway)
- The in space icons for many ship classes being too much alike (destroyers, cruisers, battlecruisers, industrials, mining barges)
- The corp management panel having the most awkward, clumsy and confusing interface possible.
I understand not all people can be bughunters or are skilled enough to work on the 3d modelling and skinning, so you simply let them have their way with the graphics the sounds and mess around with the UI, but FFS: some supervision please?!
"If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it!" Please take a big fat red permanent marker and write it in big fat capital letters on every computer monitor in the art/design department.

LOL I agree with everything he just said. WTF are they thinking?
BTW the new 'font' is to support asian chatacters.

The new ones arn't bad, but they need some sort of reverb or echo effect to make it more spacey and real enough to seem like it is in fact coming from a computer, and not a person.
As it stands right now, the new voice needs a little 'umph' to it, sounding like it was recorded in a room with carpeted walls and ceilings.
I like the role the new voice over makes, in that is associates itself with the ship. A very nice touch.
I am sure it's easy enough to add some simple acoustic affects to the new voice to make it work out well.

There is a new "Voice of EVE" that is being used on the test servers, but nothing has been decided on whether the new voice will make the transition to TQ when the patch goes live next Tuesday.
Believe me, the Voice of EVE internal discussion has almost been as heated as the discussion among the player base. When a final determination has been made, it will be announced.

Actually the new font doesnt look all that bad tbh. Sure the old one was a wee bit better but this one supports asian text or something.
The color changes to corp logos are horrible as well, our corp logo is ruined.
the mixing of text fonts is really bad, take a look at your sec status and the corp name/date you joined on the show info screen.
It would be nice if they finally fixed the warp sound, hell even an option to remove or an addon pack to simply remove the noise. (Hell go crazy and remove the EULA restrictions for this specific case and im sure the players can work out the fix)
I still like the old and new voices just as much though. ---------------------------

Edited by: LLeBRing on 21/06/2005 00:34:40 After extracting them all and listening to them, even the new tutorial ones, I'd like to give my two cents on the matter.
I think the new one has potential, given you can add some sort of reverb or acoustical affect to make it sound more simulated and not plainish. It needs to sound like it is in fact coming from a ships autopilot, not some lady in a carpeted room.
The new tutorial sounds.
The male voice is far too deep and heavily accented. It would probably make more sense sticking with the female voice based on the fact that I find it hard to understand the male. It makes me want to concentrate more when listening, which can get annoying. It's identical to a person speaking their second language of English, to a person from the States or England. It requires a lot of effort to understand.
I'm not sure if the female voice needs any sort of acoustical touch-ups as far as the tutorial is concerned, but I do like the fact that you are adding voices to the tutorial.
The introduction file that I saw, should as well, be done by the female for similar reasons above.
I know you probably wanted to spruce it up a bit, add a male and female, but the female voice in this case is high enough pitched to the point that I am not bothered and would find it helpful. The male however is just far too deep, and I have to concentrate more to understand what it is he is saying.
His accent is extremely heavy and the words are not pronounced as clearly and definitively as I would have hoped.
That's why I believe it might be better in this case, to have an all female, clear, concise, English or American speaker.
Again, I like the fact that you are adding the voices, I think they are a great step in the right direction, however I do that the female needs some light touchup and the male probably replaced.
I can tell you from personal experience, that before EVE, I had an extremely difficult time understanding those in the UK with their accents. Even though I'm American and I speak English, the accent is an extremely difficult thing to overcome if your not acustomed to it.
That's why the tutorial, aimed at those new to EVE, should be done by an English female or American, with clear concise pronunciation.

i kinda like the new sounds. now if they just could turn down the warp sound to a 10th of the volume it is today i would propably play with sounds on.
that warp sound is so damn annoying because if you want to hear the other sounds the warp sound will break your speakers.
but generally a change in voice overs gives the game a bit of freshness over it.

Oh my god! I logged onto Sisi to check if the rumours were correct.
Sadly they appear to be all to true!
CCP - do NOT under any circumstances use the female computer voice!
It sounds like some two-bit children's TV presenter talking down to her audience of four year olds ( and I might be insulting four year olds at that!)

I found it easily understandable, but it still sounded stupid and is without a doubt by someone with english as a secondary language. I definitely think someone with english as their primary language should be the voice.
