Molle : One of the few to truly set their mark. Sastul/Nathan Vaughn(sp) : Same as molle - Although prob less well known now.
Not coincidentially the two persons who 'thought up' the FA, and made it what it was in its early days (and later also) No need in going into detail with these two gentlemen
HG : No list like this without HG as well - Not only is he probably the largest egomaniac in EVE - But also the most devious and dangerous and... and damn can he write as well... His exploits are too many to even start mentioning here. While he to many new/medium EVEians might seem a bit 'faded' and they prob dont quite understand what the fuzz is all about : Stay as far away from this guy as you can . He *will* pervert you. (Hi HG ) To sum up : Lethal, in his, to most, not so obvious ways.
Jade C : Never has any been so prolific on the forums debating this and that AND made sense at the same time (if you had the stomach for the long, but very well written, posts). Dearly miss his/her input on the forums. Dont the emperor have some kind of amnesty on his birthday or some such? One of the very best, if not *the best* (that I know of anyhow), who can win any verbal debate/argument - Where logic and sound reasoning and arguments wins over trolling and name calling. I'd think twice before entering the ring with Miss Jade C.
Xirtam : The first true GodFather. Influenced a quarter of the map for over a year. 'nuff said. TRIGGER : Same as Xirt - But more of a GoodFather (at least until recently). But none the less the same impact.
You really cant say TRIGGER without saying Xirtam, or vice versa. Have these guys ever shaped a huge part of EVE history and legend together.
Hardin : A legend in his own, for keeping it true to the story. HUGE respect. Probably less direct influence on the game as such, than he/PIE truly deserves.
Seleene : For actually making mercs 'respected'. Through sheer willpower and fair play - Both to clients and prey (BIG once had the 'honor' ) Others tried before her, and none managed to make the merc profession 'OK'. All mercs to come owe her tribute.
I could, and probably should, name a bunch more who has also 'set their mark'. But those will have to do (for now), and many are mentioned already. (I'll prob hit myself for forgetting a couple atm tomorrow...)
Theres alot of 'forgotten' heroes out there as well - Those that never reach the limelight, but that none the less can have a huge impact.
One good example is my own Frantik (who posted earlier) I cant say I know of any other pilot who single handedly can make entire *fleets* move - By simply appearing in local. He is one of the unsong heroes who does not dabble in politics, and thus stays out of the limelight - And only those at the front lines know of him, and fear him - and his tracking skills. "You can run, but you cant hide" Never was it truer than when Frantik found his call.
I'm sure theres more like Frantik out there. Pilots who almost on their own can turn the tide of battles, due to their special skill&reputation (be it scanning or something completly different)
They deserve their mention as well - Just takes abit longer to explain why
