I mean really? if it's a matter of people not protecting their pcs, why not just encrypt it? Pretty annoying to have to type it in everytime.

It was encrypted in the prefs.ini file.
However, stealing someone's prefs.ini file and overwriting your own would give you access to a users account (since your client now has the victims account name and password in his prefs.ini).
You should be fine if you didn't use 3rd party programmes. This is CCP being nice and removing that worry (still, 3rd party programmes can still log your password by using a keylogger).

I don't think it's nice... I think it is annoying... If you are dumb enough to allow your prefs to go off into the net, then you shouldn't be dealing with online activites.
I switch amongst my characters fairly often and all this does is add another few seconds to the process, which is annoying. Sure I guess I will just deal, but there are better solutions then just removing it.

I agree; It's the user's option whether to use the save password thing or not, some of us are actually smart enough to have computers that are kept reasonable secure, and there's no worry about our prefs.ini being spread anywhere. This change is just an unnecessary annoyance.
It doesn't make any sense to remove an _option_ to save your password. It's not like the client was twisting your arm and sayinG YOU MUST SAVE THE PASSWORD.

Agree totally, in fact in some ways having it saved is MORE secure. A Generic key logger won't know about prefs.ini so is stumped when you don't enter your password.
If They want to make the password more secure than store the password in the registry maybe key'd to something on the machine as the seed for the encrypter.

All this talk of keyloggers, do you people honestly know what you are burbling on about?
Get a FIREWALL. There is a free one you can download, it is called ZONE ALARM.
INSTALL it right away, as soon as any keylogger tries to send it's information ZONE ALARM will ask you if you want KEYLOGGER.EXE to access the internet. You say NO.
That's it...

Until your keylogger disables zone alarm, or uses an exploit to bypass zone alarm by passing it GUI keystrokes to add itself to zone alarms trusted applications list.
Or maybe it could do it the old fashioned way and tunnel its traffic within accepted traffic and bypass your firewall that way.
Just running a firewall does not help once the program is on your computer.

Indeed, not to mention that Zone Alarm is about the worst firewall there is...
Fact of the matter is where keyloggers are concerned is, they only get on your PC by you doing something stupid. A firewall in it's self doesn't stop you getting one, a virus checker may do, but common sense and care will.
Anyway that's off topic - we're talking about a slight annoying change which we hope peeps agree shouldn't have been removed :).

If you guys are dumb enough to use the save password feature, then you dont deserve to have internet access. You can easily get a virus that will let you're prefs.ini slip off, its just plain dumb. Even though you're password is encypted, it can easily be decrypted manually. Im glad they removed the save password feature. No game ive played has had it, and im glad they didnt.

Good call, no other game has ever done it, therefore it should never be done. When will game developers learn to simply shovel out the same old crap year after year with no effort whatsoever to improve on things in even the smallest of ways? Everybody knows that innovation is for suckers. Give me stagnancy or give me death!

I think the guys complaining about losing the "Save Password" feature are the same guys who use automated mining macro's :)

I want it back because when my friends come over they like to play Eve sometimes and if the password is saved they dont need me to get in. If it isn't well then I have to come running to type it in and I don't like giving out my passwords even to my friends.

It'd be nice if they had the password box automatically selected when that window comes up.
Compare and contrast:
1) Click EVE icon
2) <Enter>

3) Reach over, grab mouse, click password box

CCP has to pander it appears to Carebear Noobs at every turn. These players beleive all sorts of strange things about a game and the makers responsabiltys to said game. Bit like fat people suing maccy d for making them fat LOL. Anyway I digress here! I am suprised most of these players acually know how to use a computer let alone connect to the Internet ha ha

Atually, zone alarm is one of the best software firewalls, but that doesn't say much. If you want protection buy a router with a VPN firewall and all the goodies and throw a PC running a linux distro suited for a firewall between that and your PC, then use various security tools to test and secure your network.
I'd have to agree, its a pain to type it in all the time, we lazy people don't like to do things that require effort.

Of course there are technical ways to protect your PC, and you could protect your saved password.
Now try to think being in CCP's shoes. If you offer a not completely safe system, users WILL have accounts stolen. They COULD protect their PCs, but practically, the massive majority of players will save passwords and not bother protecting. Now you'll say it's their fault if they get hacked; maybe. But again, look at things from CCP's angle: you have subs with hacked accounts, no matter who's fault it is, CCP could have prevented it. What will people be saying? "CCP's game has stolen accounts." "EVE is cool, but did you hear about these stolen accounts?" At some point it makes it to press reviews.
So in the end, it's CCP who's taking a risk.

hmm... I play the game on two computers.
On one of them I still have the "Save password" box, the other one its gone.
why ?
Am I the only one with a save password box still ?

Hehe, the Save Password thingy isnt gone, it's just hidden very well :)
Add the following line to your prefs.ini:
networkAdvanced=1
You'll get some more options in the login screen (mostly stuff you don't need to touch), and... the Save Password box :-)

There may be a lot of people who dont have their computer protected. Years ago, I didnt when I was playing Ultima Online. I was hacked and was robbed of all my gold and belongings.
Actually its a good idea to type your password in.
I now have Norton Internet Security.........
Tells me when I am trying to be hacked and even gives me their domain and location on a world map.

(of course I am assumeing your the same viperx I played alot of JG with)I know JG does infact most online games do okay so E&B dosen't but they ain't normal.. point is this is a user choice and responsibility issue. the more we expect Devs to watch over and Care for "wittle" selves the more we'll lose .
