So I am finishing Cybernetics V in a few days and am curious about my first remap. Should I be going for my core skills (electronics/engineering ect) in a mem/int remap or should I be focusing on flying ships and gunnery perc/will first?
And advice is greatly appreciated! |

You could do the 'compromise' remap -- seven points in Intelligence and seven points in Perception.
That would give you (assuming +5 implants):
2610 SP per Hour in Navigation. 2400 SP per Hour in Electronics, Engineering, Gunnery, Mechanic, Missile Launcher Operation, some Planetary Management, Science, T1/T3 Spaceship Command, Def/Ele/Eng T3 Subsystems, and Off/Pro T3 Subsystems. 2190 SP per Hour in Drones, Industry, some Planetary Management, Social, T2 Spaceship Command. 1980 SP per Hour in Corporation Management, Leadership, Trade.
That's all of the important ship, support, and shooty skills all at a pretty high level. I like it for beginning characters as it's easier to get up to speed on everything quickly. The other remaps shine in a couple of areas and suck at the rest. This is better.
Edit: And just so you know, the support skills remap would be Int/Mem (10 points in Int, 4 points in Mem), not the other way around. |

The important int/mem skills are necessary for everything. If you don't have a good tank, you die, but if you don't have good gun/drone skills, things just take a bit longer.
If this is a brand new character, I would spend 2-4 months on int/mem, then blow a bonus remap on per/will. I created a new alt in December and immediately remapped to int/mem; I will likely remap to per/will by mid February and try to finish dessy 5 and BC 5.
A compromise remap is a viable option, but if it has 2+ bonuses and you know what you're doing, I would just spend them. |

The 'compromise' remap is best for players who are actually playing the character while it's skilling up. That way you can switch from support to shooty/ship and back again as necessary while keeping a really good SP/H rate.
If you are skilling up an alt while actively playing a different character, then use the Int/Mem and Per/Wil optimized remaps instead. The character's complete lack of a big set of skills won't hinder it -- you won't be playing the alt until it's done baking anyway. |

If you plan to train drones or industry, I recommend: INT > PER = MEM, 23i 21p 21m 17w 17c
Otherwise for just combat I recommend: INT = PER, 24i 24p 17m 17w 17c
If you are new to EVE, there is no way you know what you are going to train until you figure out what you like doing. Don't worry about min-max from day one, that's only useful for alt accounts. |

I second this. This is quite an effective method to get all the various basic skills up to speed.
I started to make a new 'primary' alt couple of years ago using this method and I'm quite happy with the results. Sable's Ammo Shop at Alentene V - Moon 4 - Duvolle Laboratories Factory. Hybrid charges, Projectile ammo, Missiles, Drones, Ships, Need'em? We have'em, at affordable prices. Pop in at our Ammo Shop in sunny Alentene. |

I really like this idea, I think this is how I'll go after my current skill. |

I am going to confirm that putting an equal amount of points in INT and PER (for combat at least) is going to give a wide range of skills to train for to an acceptable level. You can get most basics trained to IV in just a couple of days time each.
Edit: and meanwhile, actually play the game. |

So, I was just thinking of remapping to int and perception.
Was just wondering is there any other skills other then drones that ones could try to get up some in level before remap? |

But if you train 1 more SP in Per/Wil skills than you train in Int/Mem skills over the course of your remap you're better off putting everything into Per and then the rest into Int. You will earn more sp/hour that way and under no circumstances is a balanced Per/Int or a balanced Int/Per spec optimal - one attrib will be your most used, and therefore should be the highest you can make it. |

I think the point is that that requires you to know in advance what your most used attribute is going to be. If you have a year-long skill plan and don't plan on deviating from it under any circumstances, then a balanced plan is not for you. If you prefer to have flexibility to train whatever looks like fun this week, a balanced plan keeps you from stressing so much over how it fits into your mapping. |

Support skillz are awesomely useful, but hull skillz and weapon skillz are what makes the game fun for most people.
How happy are you with what you're currently flying and shooting? If you feel good about your current ship hulls and weapons, then train support skillz. But if you're itching for bigger and larger and higher and faster and so forth, go for PER/WIL.
Note that it also depends on how often you can re-map. That's something I don't know myself, because I've nly ever re-mapped once, to dump CHA as low as possible, and balance my points evenly between INT, MEM, PER and WIL. If you can only re-map once per year, then your best bet might be to do the Salpad thing for the first year so you can train all kinds of skillz, and then after that first year you re-map for ships/weapons, then 3rd year for support skillz, 4th year back to ships/weapons.
If you can re-map much more often, it's a much less critical decision to make. probably start with PER/WIL for 3-5 months, then 2-3 months of support skillz (or 4-6 months if you feel like it), then re-amp back to PER/WIL.

This is very important. I've played for amost 6 full years now, and I occasinally take month-long breaks from the game where I only log in to train.
But early on, it's necessary to actively play in order to maintain enthusiasm. I figure it takes at least a couple pf years to fall sufficiently in love with the game that you just decide to keep subscribing even if you feel like taking a break, because you can see the inherent value of having high skillz when you come back and resume active play.

Looking at Jacob's list, I'd say no. None of his low-SP-rate skill categories are really much fun, apart from Drones (Planetary Industry gives a little passive income, but only a little - it may give more in low-sec, 0.0 or wormholes, though).
But do train yourself some Drones first. Try to get Drone Interfacing to 3. To 4 if possible.
edit: Changed "skillz" to "skill categories", above, since thats what Jacob is actually talking about. Also fixed 1 tyop. |
