Does anyone know if online POS's will respond to a cloaked covert ops ship. Can I be cloaked and warp to a moon with a POS and not get shot down?

They won't fire on a pod. Scout in one of those and you'll be fine. Just be careful. :)

Ah... yes but you miss the bigger picture. If I'm using probes and pick up my prey, then warp to him cloaked only to find he is hold up in a POS. It would be my hope to be able to warp away and my prey be none the wiser. If the POS detects and attacks me, that doesn't really help me much. Probing in low sec is so dangerous for a covert IF a POS can detect what no other technology has been able to thus far.

As far as I have experienced, the POS will not detect you when you are near it cloaked.
BUT, I do not know if you uncloak if you come to close to the forcefield.
Good luck ---------------------------- Bathing in cold water is, just like hitting yourself in the head.... nice when you stop doing it. |

Ahhh..
Well, as far as I know being cloaked should protect you, but I'll leave it up to someone who's actually tried it to chime in with a definitive answer. :)
In the meantime I'm going to go back to being bored at work.

you do get uncloaked when you come close to the field. then after a short interlude you will be relieved of your covert ops ship if the settings of the pos are to attack you.

Your question was answered. I'll add one extra tidbit of info.
You *may* decloak on the way to the POS if you warp through a planet.
Dont ask me why, its happened to me before. Because of this you need to try to plot a route clear of celestial objects.

I have discovered much to my delight on the test server that you may (after the patch) cloak while in warp. A possible solution is to warp toward your destination and then as you begin to slow to exit warp engage your cloaking device as there are not likely to be any celestial objects in your path at that time.

if the target's at a POS, then he's at a moon. and if he's at a moon you can find him on the scanner w/o much effort or trouble (or probes) . and when you find him on the scanner you'll see you're pickup up a POS and probably shouldn't warp to his location. . .

Thatll be fixed in the next patch though Youll also be able to cloak and decloak while in warp.

Yea, you won't get fired on, but if you are exposed from 2km range you'll decloak.
However, there have been many times where I have warped (cloaked) into a friendly POS. I bounce off of the forcefield, and head the opposite way, and I don't decloak.
Its strange. ----------------------------------------------

Personally, I have lost a few covert ops ships cloaked when heading to moons at 60km. Basically, from my point of view, the smart choice is to place the station so that you bounce of the shield unless you have a specific bookmark to fly to, so as to kill anything that comes anywhere near it.
I can assure you that bouncing off a shield certainly does decloak you .... 3 of my previous clones can attest to that

Edited by: Deakin Frost on 29/06/2005 11:36:52 People that don't want you to spy their assets will make sure you uncloak when coming inbound. And that doesn't even require the POS being anchored in a funny position.
