Do you mine just one particuler ore at a time or do you use the indescriminate mining method ?
I park myself off the end of a belt and start at the first roid there and proceed to over the course of a day, strip 1/3rd to half the belt. To me all roids are just as valuable as the next, especially if they mock while i journey to the belt.
I use an Apoc setup to mine and park the indy from my 2nd account to haul back to the station for me.

It depends on what you are going for. Veldspar wont make you a lot of money but then massive amounts of Trit are used in the game. In 0.5+ (which I hardly ever mine in) Scordite will make you the most money.
Currently Im mining for having a mineral cache so I mine alot but I have some 250k unrefined jaspet. (wating on the patch. )

if im mining for mins to build something, i have a huge session of mining every roid within my reach, but if you're just mining to sell the mins then look at the mineral prices in your area and only mine the ore that would give you the highest income.
oh, and please try to pop at least one veldspar roid in each session. its so annoying to get stuck between five huge roids while the rest of the ore has been selectively picked clean. ----------------------------------------------

When I need to build a BS, I bite the bullet and use my two industry characters to mine indiscriminately. I start at one end of the belt and move like 3 times to get within reach of all roids. I can mine out an entire belt in about 6 hours, usually can get most low end mins for a tier 2 BS...
When you mine for ISK, you stick with one rock type, going belt to belt in the system till it's all gone... (Kernite, Omber, etc..) Although I have not mined for ISK in a long time...

You should see the size of the veld roids i pop when i mine, some of them are in excess of 140k units of ore, i rip into them like a fat kid at a buffet...........Hold on a sec, i am fat, but not a kid.

Well, Im using a Covetor with 3 Modulated strip miners, so I mostly stick to swapping between Veldspar and Scordite Tech2 Crystals, mostly because, the other smaller roid types dont last very long under the gaze of a msm2 with tech2 crystals

Edited by: MaiLina KaTar on 29/06/2005 12:26:51 Since I only mine when I want to build something (mainly battleships for myself and the occasional extra ship for sale) I usually go for very specific ores.
I never mine to sell the mins but if I would, well, then I'd make a merket survey and mine whatever yields the most profit.

As others have said, when mining to sell, check the market, do your sums and selectively pick your roids. With so little mining going on at the moment you're unlikely to run out of roids whatever you target. The tradition of indiscriminate strip-mining is a holdover from the old days when everyone and their dog mined a bit. Back then the roids never got to grow much before being mined, so you'd cherry-pick out a system very quickly - strip mining was more efficient as you moved around less.
Generally I only strip-mine if I'm mining to build, and even then only until I get close to my target mineral levels. But even then, blindly mining every roid you see isn't the best way. If I'm being lazy, I'll start off like that, then when I reach my target in certain minerals, I'll drop certain roids from my overview. So when I have enough pyer, I stop mining scordite as the only reason I'd want to would be for trit, and I can get it quicker from veld. If you're really going for hardcore mining efficiency, you can set up a spreadsheet to take in a certain quantity of minerals and give you a list of ores and quantities that will be the fastest way to mine them (though that does end up being a very complicated spreadsheet).

I mine a belt for my primary ore, grabbing the next best ones as I run out of primary ones in my 15km. I then move 30km down the belt and repeat until there is no primary ore left.

Actually Kernite has gone back to being the most profitable. It's because Isogen is selling at around 160 isk per. -- (Battle hardened miner)

I tend to have 3 modes of mining....
1) I'm building something so I'm mining just what I need.
2) I'm stocking up ore so I "cherrypicking" a certain roid type from all the belts.
3) Neither 1 or 2 so I just mine anything and everything in my path.

Mmmm, I hate mining usually, but when I do I make a point of picking out the Arkanor and Bistot roids. -----------------------------

I will usually mine the crap out of an entire belt no matter what I'm doing. I see alot of folks here saying they focus on what to mine depending on what they're mining for. Myself, at some point, I'm going to be doing any and all of those things, so I mine for my present and future needs.
Sure, that means I have zillions of Isogen sitting around collecting dust, but when I want to build some missiles it will be there for me when I need it. :) Plus it's a great nest egg.

I remember this one time when I mined 20 units of Crimson Ark - It was a saddening experience, however, I was trying to get a spawn to appear in the belt.
I am sure I heard my Raven weep when I equipped a sole Miner II and I didnt get anything to spawn before I got bored and gave up

i also like to start at one end and move across taking all the roids in range, its easier to do then cherry pick, which i realllly dont like, altho i have at time gone thru and pick up one ore, then return and take out a second type of ore, then so on, and so on, but i mainly prefer taking it all at once, as even trit is money...
Also i dont like to leave any rat loot out there either, as refined thats money too.....even more so since i have maxx refine ability, and 0 loss at fed navy station, it helps to do some missions in between, altho i enjoy mining, doing missions, helps bring ur refine loss lower, so that u gain more ----------------------------------------------- In the End , there can be only 1
