Quote: Well, I got a reply back from ccp about the textures. They say they haven't heard of it before and ...
WTF? Shame on you, CCP !
The Texture-"Z-Buffering"-Problems (mostly on Stations or Jumpgates) are still in the Game since BETA! CCP promise to fix this Problem in Retail.... Ha
btw: you can try all the different Drivers for your Graphiccard, but this won't help. It's a Problem that has to be fixed by the DEVS.... |

I get the same rippling effect, but not on all objects. The Caldary stations seem to be immune to that.

what about posting a few of the nastier screenshots to the "Player Website Screenshots" section. Maybe if we post enough of them CCP will acknowledge that it is something they need to address.
I have an NVIDIA GeForce Ti 4800 and I get tons of these graphical anomolies. I'll post some of my doozies...

Probably because they're all flat surfaces that meet at straight-line joins.
It's where they have curved surfaces meeting each other that you really see the problem.
As for a solution, there may not be one with current technology. If the game is already using as fine-grained a z-buffer as is possible on todays' graphics cards then you're SOL. Each EvE solarsystem is *B*I*G* compared to the scale of the stations and this causes the problem. The rendering pipeline doesn't have enough precision in the z-buffer to accurately tell which texture should be in front of which and quantisation errors cause the rippling as it comes out A before B when viewed from one place and B before A from another.
Incidentally Caldari stations DO get a 'ripple' effect from all the lights when viewed anything but very close up, due to the same quantisation errors, although in this case it could be fixed to some degree by using FSAA I believe.

"They say they haven't heard of it before and to try the catalyst 2.5 drivers that they ussually work best. "
What the crap! Don't they talk to players in the game? Almost everyone have this problem. Tsssk. /Phoibos

I have this same problem I just replaced my old geforce 2 that worked fine but was only a 64 bit card. My new geforce 5200 is a 128 bit card but i get those annoying draw errors. Like the card cant handle the textures which is just plain stupid.

I don't think the Devs read these threads... not even sure if they read the bug reports as I've never had a response back to any I've posted.

actually I don't have this problem on my ATI 9500pro... it does occur on my laptop with its Raedon 7500 thou... I guess its a ATI Driver issue as I'm using one of the latest one... I didn't install anything else besides the first driver package from the ATI website.. no control panel, no other stuff... just the base driver

Edited by: Tim Maser on 28/08/2003 02:40:50 I too have the problem with my 9700pro. It's the worst with Minmatar Gates
heres something in the support area that sounds like the problem, so they know about it
Textures overlapped and ugly. Question Im having problems with textures. Answer <as-html
If you have your system set to 16 bit color you might experience some problems. The distances in EVE are sometimes so great that the granularity of a 16 bit Z buffer is not enough to correctly render objects with surfaces close to each other, that are placed far away from the camera. The only fix is to have the card set to 32 bit color, but that will lower your frame rate. We are aware of this problem and try to build our geometries and set our shaders so that this doesn't happen, but some designs make it very hard.

To set your video card to 32 bits simply right click the desktop >choose> Properties >find> Settings >Find> Color on the lower left side and change to 32 bit color.
Obviously their instructions don't work. The problems in 32bit or so bad I don't want to know what the game looks like in 16bit.

The problem isnt with any drivers its gameside issues beacause if it was drivers our problems would be fixed by now.

Well, I hope that CCP is working on more of a solution than saying to run in 32bit. We need a working fix. I understand it could take time, but I heard people mention CCP said during beta that it would be fixed by release. So I hope again that this little 32bit suggestioned isn't the last thing we'll ever hear about it.

We can but hope, although from the lack of response to this post from any CCP staff I assume it will be at the bottom of their priority list.

That's funny because after I switched my desktop to 16 bit color (same res as the game), the problem seemd to stop, more or less.
Not too much texture-fighting at all.
