The trouble that I have, disclosing my sex, is that from then on I get convos and eve-mails, "wanting to chat" re: cyber..
If I wanted to be hit on, Id go to a bar. I play this game (and have since beta) because my (now-ex) boyfriend started to play and quit, giving me his act.
I stayed because I like it, well, the crafting (building) aspect of the game appeals to me. In EQ, Horizons, DaoC, I was a crafter first, and and adventurer second.
Still holds true today.

It only matters if you have some strange concept of this game as being some sort of dating service. I play both female and male characters in MMO's and everytime someone has taken the trouble to ask me if I'm a female in real life, I have answered "yes". They then immediately and unfailingly begin the sad process of trying to "hook up" with me in whatever sense they have convinced themselves is possible, as if I would ever meet them in physical space, or give them any information that would allow them to find/contact me in the real world.
If you're looking for a date, log off and go outside - try pubs, coffee shops, grocery stores, book stores, etc. That's where girls hang out. If you meet one flying a battleship in space, there's virtually zero chance you're going to get laid by them.

Edited by: Jenny Spitfire on 14/07/2005 20:30:42 Male... female... male... female... does it really matter? ;/
Just play the game, if you see a female avatar, assumed it is a female and treat her with respect. If you see a male avatar, do what boys do then...
But be wary, girls do not play barbies these days, we just collect em ;O
Hmmmm... any female thinking of making an all female pirate/bounty/etc. corp.? Would be funny though, Les Amazonnes. ;p ----------------------------------- Eve is all about Darwinism: 1. I had the cunning plan that playing a woman would mean that I get shot at les by blokes. So playing a blonde consumptive looking woman was a double win.
I've had some weirdos spamming me with BAD french poetry but other than that it's been cool.
Plus, making my character a blonde annoyed the living **** out of a brunette girl I was seeing when I created her. *sigh* happy days :D

I would say like this as my bf got "some" eve accounts he got both female avatars and male avatars. Hes CEO is a IRL female too I mean in EvE now.
dont know where this data of 90% is males in eve come from as EVE is full of playing "irl" females got friends who playing eve who I def know is females inc me then a ex got a friend who are having a male avatar but hihi her cover was blown when she enter the TS and started chatting :) I aint mention any names now hihi
I realy dont know EVE is a different mmorpg not at all like Everquest II or soo and it's realy nice for a change too see a game where you actualy can make a differance on the market or do what ever you feel like.
I could make a list of females who plays EVE but I would be hunted for the rest of my life after I did a thing like that.
O btw I dont doo cyber... I got the real stuff boys ![YARRRR!!](/images/icon_pirate.gif)

I personally don't play female characters, well I did in Lineage 2 for a couple of days. I personally consider everyone I meet a male until I know for a fact other wise. And even once I know the only thing that might change is I might go a little further out of my way to help a girl then I would a guy, but thats it. I don't play this game to meet girls, I play to build stuff and blow stuff up. But thats just me.
Mougi Out of every 100 men 10 should not even be there, 80 are just targets, 9 are fighter, we are thankful to have them, for they make the battle. But ONE, one is a warrior and he will see the rest home. |

Playing female characters may work as a tool to gaining assets, trust and general liking for many. As players are mostly single men in their 20's and 30's, the interest in the opposite sex is obvious, even in a virtual world where one would think it might not matter.
Most females who don't hide their gender know this, and many undoubtedly use it to their advantage to e.g. gain higher ranks, charity or loot distribution bias, or simply to be let in a corp/guild and skip the rites of initiation. There are of course many that would rather hide their sex, and play as one of the men, or simply not abuse their position.
Men like to do women favours, and when in combat men often try to protect the women by the norm of chivalry. Men are also more "fair" to women, and tend to argue less with women. These are of course generalizations, and by no means apply to many situations and/or people.
I know many who play or roleplay female characters. Most of them are male. Many if not most female avatars have been chosen just to please the eye, and for no special reason. I don't mind that, because I always assume everyone is a male.
Furthermore, I don't try to investigate which sex people are. I admit I'm also more easily persuaded by women, which I can't help, but this is an MMORPG, not a dating sim or the local night club. Other attributes count considerably more.
And finally, here is some statistics of gender and age distribution in online games. Also read this if you are interested in the motivation differences of genders. I also recommend reading other articles ![Smile](/images/icon_smile.gif)
