Well, point also not that fonts clear or not, they are just dont fit the game. Game looks cool, and then those 'ugh' fonts in info windows and chat...... -=-

From what I have read after my original post I am not alone here, Can I urge you to post your name if you have a similar problem as me.
It's obvious that the fornt problem is detrimental to the game as I have now been left with a game where I can only help other people do missions and mine in game (is this part of the NWO?).
I used to be a diplomat for my alliance but I have had to stop that as I have no way of chatting to people. I cant do agent missions as i cant cut and paste the text to anywhere now within or outside of game(on to the ALT Tabbing in space problem there). I can't read whats in local so i have closed the window, cant read alliance so i have closed the window and cant read corp so i have closed the window.
All i can do now is tag along with my friends but as they are from all over the globe I am not guaranteed to have one to play with. This has made the game less comunity oriented than it was before.
There is one place CCP should stick their nerfbat and I cant suggest it here!!

Originally by: Capsicum Yup, the old font wasn't unicode and wouldn't support a lot of international characters properly or indeed at all. As CCP want to get big in Russia and the East, this is a pretty big problem ...
Perhaps a solution would be to allow us to choose the font we like best? The current font has a bad kerning problem, each letter seems to be double-wide. It is quite readable, just looks weird and takes some getting used to.
I reduced it to the smallest size allowed by the game, but there is still too much white space, especially next to the character name (portrait visible or not). Also, there is no extra vertical space after a comment so it is harder to differentiate who said what.
I think options to allow us to choose font families, styles, sizes, how much space after a CR/LF, etc would go a long way to solving this for all.
The advantage to that is that those that need Unicode still keep it. Everyone is happy.
FWIW.

Can I confirm that you've reinstalled EVE completely to try to cure this ?
I've been told by another member of ISD that he/she had this problem and it was caused by an incorrect patch installation. When they reinstalled from scratch, it worked fine.

No I have not, I don't know about the others.
Can I say this again! I have had this problem since Exodus. I have hade reinstalled the full build twice since then and it hasn't fixed it at all. Now that NWO is out this problem has infested the other windows!
I am not going to reinstall this game again because ISD don't have a solution to this problem.
I do have the solution however.
REMOVE THE FRILLY BITS FROM THE FONTS.
But hey! We won't get any joy with that! Frilly bits 4TW

If you've reinstalled twice since exodus and that didn't fix it, then it's unlikely to help now - I just needed to check that, as you didn't mention it in this thread, unless I missed it :/
ISD don't fix bugs, thats up to CCP themselves, all I can do is offer advice on the forums.
If you want to ensure the correct people know, send a bug report, attach the screenshot and make it clear that you have reinstalled multiple times, so its not an issue of a corrupt patch installation. Include details of your PC, your graphics card, driver versions and any other details you feel relevant.
You can file a bug report here

Hi Cristari, I also had a huge problem with fonts. The new font was not displayed at all making Eve virtually unplayable; totally blank areas where text should have been. However, I reinstalled the latest drivers for my NVidia card along with some Windows Updates (probably didn't do anything) and now I can see everything perfectly. Best of luck, Ross

For those that are having font display problems, as in they are garbled, please say what graphics card you are using and version of DirectX. This way if someone has the same graphics card and IT IS working, they can list the specific driver they are using.

Bug report done.
I am using a nVidia GeForce4 420 Go 32M graphics card.
Driver Version: 3.0.8.2
There is no other driver that will correctly work with my laptop, I have a VprMatrix 220A5. And I have used every Texel setting there is between the settings Left(7) and Center(0). This includes changing the setting in the prefs file from 1.0 to 0.0 to -1.0 as suggested by a GM. No combination of any of these settings has corrected the issue.

minor note..
i've been working with T4R4 on her display issue.. she has white blocks as text in chat..can only read chat by copy and pasting the block in notepad.. i ran sysinternal's process explorer to see what files eve has open upon on login.. bottom line: only differences i found was that
my pc is hooking into: FileG:\WINDOWS\Fonts\ARIALUNI.TTF <- microsoft's unicode font (23mb large)(installed with office 2002+ with international support)
and
FileG:\WINDOWS\Fonts\l_10646.ttf - 316.4 KB dated: 08/23/2001 4:00 PM
she was missing these 2 fonts.... i zipped the 2 fonts up and put'em on my ftp server...she copied them into the font folder. and after running eve again, looked at proc explorer and saw that her client hooked the l_10646.ttf font, but the not huge arial unicode font. How can i get the unicode font registered in her system? she does not have any flavour of MS Office?
she was also hooked into a 3rd font which my client wasnt, that was
C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\micross.ttf -298.6 KB 08/23/2001 4:00 PM
visualy this font is identical to l_10646.ttf (note that the first letter 1_ is an L)
i feel.. *maybe* if she could hook into that, she might be good to go..
Bottom line seems to be, if you do not have internnational font support installed on your pc.. you may one of the causes for screwed text issues.. (most people with newer computers have MSoffice 2002 or later pre-installed..(esp us americans...she's in canada..)
anyway... ISD plz forward this thought to the bugg d00ds plz
not really sure how to pesent this ass a bug report that would be looked at before next week..

The Eve_fonts are located: 'your eve client location'\res\common\Font I think you could backup them and put a other font there like arial. Don't forget to rename them to the current names. (EVESANS_.TTF and those others)
It might solve your problem

I have had the problem with garbled text in bios etc for some time on my laptop. can't use agents etc. With the last patch, all the garbled text went away, and a white box is in its place. As others have mentioned, I too can no longer use the chat channels, as I now get the same white boxes for text there as well. I have a gateway solo 9550 laptop, with a geforce2go graphics card. Latest version that will instal driver wise is 1.53 I belive. Omnes Ad Unum |

Ok i have a fix for all you laptop users suffering graphical glitches after the patch. It has worked on 3 sufferers without problem.
Go to www.omegadrivers.net and download the drivers that correspond to your graphics card vendor and operating system.
Just for your info; these arent official drivers but they are modded official drivers which have been calbrated for compatability [amongst other performance tweaks] with all computers INCLUDING laptops. I have been using them for 2 years and have NEVER encountered a problem with them.
I hope this works for all you guys as well as it worked for me and my friends!

Heh im so glad i can make so many people happy, ive recieved so many eve-mails, you wouldnt believe!
I first starting omegadrivers when i got my first laptop 2 years ago, it was a Toshiba, and they never EVER updated their drivers. So i set off on a mammoth mission, trying all kinds of different drivers, finally i found omegadrivers and have been hooked ever since. I now have a VAIO and SONY are even worse at updating their drivers, like their original drivers are based on 1 year old ATI drivers; thats like riding a horse in a formula 1 race.
And please STOP sending me ISK! I will only send it back to you, if you want to donate something, give the poor guy at omegadrivers.net some money via paypal! He does all that work in his spare time, with a wife and a 4 year old kid to cope with as well. Omega 4tw! .................

Verizana, which problem are you referring to? The white block problem? The scrambled text problem? Or the ugly font problem?
I personally suffer the white block problem, and cannot update my drivers drivers. (I'm not using the latest, but the version before, the reason I'm not using the latest is because they broke everything :()

I'm running eve under cedega, i.e. I'm using linux as my operating system (my windows box (my laptop) is in for repairs right now).
Omega drivers do not appear to supply linux drivers. As such, they are no help to me.
I'm used to having problems running it under linux, don't get me wrong I'm not *****ing "Oh it doesn't work under linux it must be crap", frankly, I'd rather run it under windows since it generally runs a lot better, but not having a windows machine to hand, this is the only way I can keep sane.
Most problems I can live with, I'm a carebare so a little judderyness here and there or whatever I can live with, but not being able to read the chats is another issue altogether, since I largely play eve for the community and social aspects.
and please, don't say "Install windows", if I at all wanted it on this machine it'd be installed already.

Edited by: Misinformed soldier on 10/07/2005 21:22:04 Edited by: Misinformed soldier on 10/07/2005 21:18:41 ok i managed to solve the font problem recently after several hours. completely erase any trace of previous drivers. Then update the drivers with the 56.73 nvidia drivers, not sure if the 56.72 will work the same.Nvidia XP/2000 driver archive. That should solve the problem on laptops using the geforce 4 go series. Or atleast more specifically the 420.
Oh and even though it is'nt specifically meant for laptops it doesnt make a blind bit of difference. Probably boost your fps aswell. ---------------

Since their not doing anything about the fonts i was wondering if anyone already founs a other way?
I've tried to update my drivers, but they don't work. It's on a nVidia 420GO with 16MB, which is running Detonator 28,46.The 56,72 doesn't do anything and the 56,73 doesn't seem to exist anymore. The 77,72 says it can't find any hardware on my pc that it's is needed for. The Omega works I think, i seem to lose about 2 cm on the right side of my screen and EVE minimizes to desktop all the time at the screen after login, but i think it works.
But isn't there an other way with the fonts in the folder?I've been trying this out with several fonts from my Windows folder, replacing the EVE's with Arial, Vera, Verdina. Some of these work but it's just those titles in yellow/orange and the big titles that still won't show while the smaller fonts are readable. What do I have to do excatly, replace the originals (TrueType) by new ones of OpenType?
I'd like to talk to ya'll and do missions and stuff, I feel kinda deff and dumb.
PS.Awesome game btw

If your losing some picture at the side of the screen that means your screen is set to a too high resolution. Lower your resolution and the problem should be fixed. .................

Yup, the new fonts broke the game for us Linux players using Cedega, though I haven't completely given up on it yet. Cedega 4.4 just came out and it fixed the mouse problems. I'm also gonna search around and see if installing come unicode font packages might do the trick. Lastly, if anyone is able to zip up those font files that come with the game for me, I might be able to get it to work by installing them on the system separately. *shrugs* At this point, anything's worth a try.
