Requiring boosters be on grid is one of the most player upvoted proposals on the csm's assembly hall.
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=10444
Yet it seems it didn't get much attention from the csm meeting:
"Seleene brought up the topic of off-grid boosting, and Fozzie responded that technical limitations were the only reason it continued to exist. Fozzie could not comment on when this issue would be resolved and stated that GÇ£one day Veritas will come up to me and say GÇÿhey I fixed off-grid boostingGÇÖGÇ¥, but he had no idea on a potential timeframe for this sort of miracle."
And that seems all that was said about it. (If this was then addressed somewhere else in the minutes please feel free to let me know.) http://community.eveonline.com/council/transcripts/2012/CSM_CCP_Meetings_December_2012.pdf
"Technical limitations" so getting this fixed is like hoping on a miracle??
Is Veritas actually assigned to fix this, or is this something he may, or may not do, in his spare time?
Can we get some sort of description of the technical limitation?
Can the technical limitation be avoided by doing something other than requiring them to be on grid say only give boosts up to fleet members in an area of effect?
Some sort of follow up would be appreciated.

CCP have already stated on several occasions that OGB is going away - they dislike the mechanic. Also, the tech 3 cruisers are going to stop being the over powered boost machines they are now when the revamp of command ships goes through this year. So whether you agree with the idea or don't, it's happening.

I totally agree with the nerfing of the boosts, theyre SO overpowered thats why people choose them over the command ship.
What CCP have to remember is the cost effectiveness, are u going to just counter this lack of use of command ships, by turning it on it's head and making t3s unusable, for the same cost.
Removing offgrid boosters is a bad move, and will surely mean that they have to give some boost back to Solo/Small-Gang PvPers, otherwise they've just totally nerfed that mechanic even more, and EVE becomes much, much less of a "sandbox". -Buhh |

Past revisions over the last four years that I've been playing would seem to indicate that expecting this kind of reciprocity for the Solo/SG player is akin to expecting the second coming of Christ. You can hope for it all you like, but don't hold your breath.

I guess that's because really, CCP are a business, and will go with the masses to create the most profit. It's a shame to wave goodbye to such an adrenaline pumping, exciting game, and welcome this "Not-so-sandbox" they're slowly creating.
And yeah, CCP have only boosted solo in 3 ways the last few years. 1. Tech 3 Cruiser Boosts 2. Ancilliary Shield Boosters 3. Making blasters good again.
For that i'm thankful, however, for what we're about to recieve, I am not. |

Boosts are killing solo pvp. If you are using a booster alt you are not solo anymore than if you use a logistics alt or a falcon alt. (at least those need to be on grid.)

I have command ships trained to V.
I support the change to nerfing OGB. This however MUST lead to two options:
1) A significant increase in the durability of Boosting ships (not likely going to happen as it creates imbalance elsewhere)
2) A tenfold increase in the effectiveness of boosts while I remain on-grid, going back to EVE's famous trailers this would support a style of gameplay demonstrated, When a command ship enters the field the enemy FC screams "KILL THAT COMMAND SHIP" and while the command pilot realizes he is doomed he remains steadfast for every second he stays on the field he holds significant sway over the flow of conflict. You will be primaried... but your time on the battlefield will be legend.
Also in order to make option 2 an actual power-play he must be unable to receive reps while boosting, he can still run and self-rep but if this caveat is not added we will have 8 Archons repping a damnation =P

Exactly this.
At the moment you very rarely see "Fkin blobbers" or anything like that in local (You do, but theyre just scrubs).
EVE is supposed to be fun, unfortunately now, people are so risk averse that they only fight in huge numbers, OGB allow you to do things like this: http://cyn0.syn-dot.com/index.php/kill_related/12833/ (Please allow the KB link it's to prove a point).
Without the tengu boost, we would've ALL died, and without the loki we couldn't of caught anything. Tell me how that is going to IMPROVE this game? So now blobs can dominate you with a push of a button? At this moment, blobs have to think about what they're going to do tactically, and not underestimate their opponent, after the OGB nerf, its instadeath |

I don't believe its technically possible for CCP to prevent OGB. Prevent boosting from a POS yes, but not applying the boosts to one grid in a system.
I think the changes to boosts will help a little but the bottom line is T3s are still overpowered as they require max skills to probe down. I think that'll have to be the next change - increase their sig radius when they're pushing boosts - to ensure that the T3 pilot is actually at the keyboard.
I'm not holding my breath, frankly CCP take a ridiculous amount of time to deal with problems like this and always have. |

We can agree to disagree on this. I used to be able to roam around solo and alts wouldn't ruin a substantial number of fights. Occassionally you would get the guy who brings in the falcon alt at the last minute or logistics alt etc. But you knew who these guys were - well because those ships needed to be on grid.
Now in pretty much every populated system you should expect your target to have an alt giving him a substantial advantage.

OGB is even more likely to occur when the blob is in a system than it is when a small gang is in a system. People forget that the same mechanics work for everybody, and are usually more effective the more people you have. So the theory that OGB is the only thing keeping small gang combat alive is a complete myth.
People also tend to forget that a grid is a fairly large chunk of area, and the requirement to be on grid leaves a ton of wiggle room for a T3 set up for speed tanking.
But lets continue to overlook the obvious, it's entertaining. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. So, the technical difficulty is to attach the fleet bonus mechanic to only those on the same grid as the bonus ship or are you aiming to apply it to all ships on the overview, in fleet?
I know you can be 10km away from someone, but they are on a different grid, so imagine the whining about bonus dropping when the grid gets messed up in a big fight lol.
I love the concept, I shudder at the implementation and fear the solution if you don't let the dev try new things out.

I play solo and OGB makes life harder for me. I have fewer targets since I avoid known OGB "soloers". I don't OGB and I solo and I'm more or less a casual player and I'm against running 2 clients. I think most players feel this way. Yeah you have the hardcores who must have every advantage, but they're a vocal minority.
For truly solo players, OGB is bad and it kills solo gameplay. People wanting to keep OGB are the same people who defended OP stuff in the past (like ECM damps and the other billion things that have been balanced over the years), claiming that it was the only thing keeping them competitive.
That's not what keeps solo play competitive. It's casual players who don't check forums every day for the latest info on ____ so they're easier to kill using whatever happens to be OP at the moment. That doesn't make your small gang gameplay any more/less viable, you're just increasing your range of blobby targets based on the number of people who don't OGB.

I don't think boosting while sitting 400km away is kosher either. Boosting ships should be within target range. This would give the added benefit of harder to dual-box, which is always good in my book.
But hey, this is eve, if you want to dual-box and say you're solo, go right ahead. Just don't complain about "solo" gameplay dying out because people refuse to "1v1" you. |

At least the enemy knows what they are dealing with, and if they choose to try and drop probes to warp in on the boosting ship they have a bit easier time of it.
It will bring about (comparitive boosting strengths aside) a situation where Command Ships (set up with a heavy tank, or buffer to take advantage of a fleets logistics capability) are used primarily with big fleets, and T3 Cruisers are used more with small fast moving gangs using speed tanking and range to their advantage.

Plus brining in a booster on grid after a fight starts does not make as much sense as bringing in a falcon or a logistics. And like I said that only happens rarely.
1) unless you happen to already have a safe you will need to bring it in at 100km warp in. Around faction war plexes even that won't work.
2) Your loki boost won't help you that much if your kite ships is already scrammed because you had trouble holding point while messing with your booster alt to warp them on grid.
3) Falcons and logistics are relatively cheap compared to command and t3.
The changes ccp discussed sound great to me.
I am just concerned with how the timeline was addressed in the minutes. They made it sound like this is not specifically assigned to be done and the likielhood of it happening is on par with the likely hood of a miracle.

Once we have the room to implement some changes to the way warfare links work from the ground up, expect changes to a lot of other modules and mechanics to happen at the same time.

It took CCP like 2-3 years to get a nano fix in so don't hold your breath. Wouldn't be too hard to nerf t2 links + t3 link bonus slightly so links aren't that crazy while we wait for a comprehensive fix but CCP is being stubborn and lazy.
I dunno what you guys are talking about links helping solo pilots. I see blobs use links more than small gangs (blobs have more pilots so it's easier to get alts/links) and "solo" pilots using 1-2 links and destroy real solo pilots making people not want to solo because you have no chance vs a fully linked pilot.
Really, if they just took away the cov ops subsystem it would be incredibly more balanced. Without cov ops cloak I could actually catch a t3 link in low sec and he wouldn't be able to just cloak in a ss and decloak to give bonuses while being ridiculously hard to probe. I don't think I've seen a non-cov ops t3 in lowsec in years except for the rare t3 blob with 10 guardians or insta-lock t3s than run from anything larger than a frig. |

Yes, because peeople have pos' in every system in eve. You have an issue with an alt sitting in a pos that you cant beat? don't take the fight in that system, force them to come to you then grab stuff on the gate or in safes next door, or you could even bring your own boosts, which totally negates the pos safe ones?
While i agree that t3' boosts are OP at the moment, off grid boosting is not. It's been my general experience that the only people complaining about "off-grid" boosting are those that cant be bothered to take advantage of it themselves, or those that can't think for themselves and find a counter, off grid is a essential asset for smaller gangs to
t3 boosts are op, off grid is not. the amount of times i've been in fleet where i've had people warp in on my boosts, or had other fc's loose boost alts because people took the initiative and scanned them out is unreal :BP:
TL:DR. T3 boosts are op, Off grid is not. perhaps having boosts able to run behind pos shields could be removed, leaving off-grid at the mercy of probers. |

Excuse me if I still think the only risk averse is the guy not willing to commit his ship to the fight because of some very bad mechanic offering huge advantages, read all the benefits but with NO RISK.
If you're not risk averse you'll bring your boosting ship to the fight, if you're risk averse and not willing to risk loosing your boosting ship then you leave it at the station. Battlecruisers have enough slots to fit at least one gang link, those should be used more often in gangs for links rather than neut/salvager

I'm not sure I would read it that way.
"Reducing ganglink bonuses and increasing effectiveness in other ways As I've said before, this is something we definitely want to do. Links are both too effective in their direct bonuses as well as their ability to be used off-grid. However getting this specific issue fixed is going to need to wait until after 1.1. Once we have the room to implement some changes to the way warfare links work from the ground up, expect changes to a lot of other modules and mechanics to happen at the same time."
It sounds like they may decrease the current effects but add other effects.
But thanks for the link it sounds like it may not be that far off.

It also depends on how the code for skill and link bonuses is engrained into the fleet code, as before Fleets came out we only had gangs and back then skill bonuses only applied on grid
If i remember correctly it was back some time in 2007 that the Fleet tool came out and for a short while both sets of code were active so you could set up the more formal fleet or the less formal gang. |

Well not trying to justify whatever but as far as my reading comprehension goes, and I know I'm bad at it, the only numbers thrown yet by dev's are those mentioned by James. Notice I'm not discrediting Fozzie comment, not at all, but he's only delivering general thoughts in this specific matter so for the meanwhile it's safe to think these changes will hit as soon as Command ships changes are set, which would be reasonable, and something around the initial announced numbers.

The technical limitation is simply that applying and comparing gang bonuses is an exponentially increasing computational load as participants increase in number. Loads like this are ultimately what end up limiting fleet fight sizes.
Adding a range check would make this section of each server tick much heavier, and certainly it would lower large fleet server performance measurably. |

Spot on. There was a similar sort of check going on with standings of everyone in FW fights 3 years or so ago and that resulted in hideous lag if there was more than 10 people on grid.
I'm trying to imagine a situation where every ship on grid would have to report its position to the server which would then have to calculate whether they were on the same grid as the booster. Even without any grid-fu (which happens to some extent on every gate due to cans/bubbles/wrecks etc) it'd be a nightmare.
You can't do it by range otherwise the booster could sit just off-grid (grid-fu again).
Needs a complete rewrite of fleet/booster code I reckon. Not going to happen anytime soon IMHO, not with all the other crap that desperately needs fixing/updating. |

Actually, people assumed that "bringing boosters on grid" meant bringing them into fleet composition, with actual player who actually flies the ship that does more than just cycling links. Ship that sits aligned 300 km away from the rest of the fleet it boosts is just another flavour of current OGB tbh (where you will need something like inty instead of prober to attempt to counter it, and that's the main difference), and I can agree that remaking them into that will make little sense. |

Boostings primirary function when they were introduced was to homogenize fleets. It did so successfully, but like all offgrid activity it produces large gains for individuals or gangs with little or no risk.
It should be scrapped just like carriers launching fighters from pos shields was. Just like Titans with remote aoe doomsdays were. The problem is out of control and there is no discussion to be had here. Get rid of them. ______

But yeah, given CCPs track-record and tendency to cave to public outcry (What happened to the the awesome S.Carrier support craft concept?).
No matter what solution is chosen to enact the change it will be at the mercy of grid-fu shenanigans, the one exception is if grids are abolished and everything is done by range, but doubt that is technically feasible due to server load and what not.
Which brings me to: We already have a hard limit of 250km to everything related to targeting so that calculation/DB lookup must exist. Is it not possible to say that links only provide their effects if they meet the those criteria .. hell, could probably get away with slapping a lock-range boost on the links themselves and say that "if you can lock it you can boost it". |

We all know there is no such thing as a fair fight in Eve.
IMHO the offgrid boosting is certainly a bit of a ***** tool, similarly to the guy shouting for 1v1 GFs with his cloaky falcon alt.
There is no difference.
I tried to find some pew the other day, just me on my own in an Omen. Finally found a guy who immediately changed ship to a Tornado clumsily tried to get range to snipe and etc etc. Obviosly that didnt work so went back to a stabber - probes cam out (why I was 100k off the station?) and before he dropped in the T3 undocks. Seriouisly this is what solo PvP is about now? Obviously I tipped my hat at the lady and left.
Its seems to me to be all about NO RISK whatever happens. As soon as some obvious OP tactic gets nerfed they are out in droves defending their NO RISK PvP.
Some of the drivel on here is just painful to read - tldr "Dont nerf my I WIN button!!!"
As far as the technical issues surrounding this - and I dont prefer to be an expert on what will work for the game (like 99.9% of this Omnicient community )
.. Why cant the boosts work on a ranged basis? doesnt the Orca work like this?
One thing to remember is that if this is removed from T3, its not like it makes the ships useless. They have many other roles.

The range based boosts are computational heavy and scales horribly with number of people on grid. I doubt CCP will be willing to go that way.

I agree there is no difference in that both are ****. But the frequency of cloaky falcons is much much less such that it is a tolerable level. Now every fit thread you see in failheap challenge is referencing how boosts work.
Seriously as solo pilot its impossible to really work out a decent fit. You know that unless you drag that booster alt around with you, you are going to end up with embarrassing losses.

Well we have had other ranged things like doomsday and smartbombs and ecm bursts.
If the problem is that fleet bonuses are constantly updating then just make them have a duration. Say they have a 20 second duration so if you are in range of the booster you get the boost for the full 20 seconds if you are out of range you miss that cycle.

All of this talk about off-grid boosting "ruining the game" is absolutely mental. Leadership is one of the most out of the way skills to train, around 10 mil sp, and people are now wanting to get it nerfed because they think their enemies are only winning because they use them?
My corporation, Mentally Assured Destruction, is a high sec war dec corporation that is commonly known for wardecing major alliances. You can check our war reports and see this for yourself.
A few wars we have going on now: Test Eve Uni Nulli Secunda Undead. CVA
and in a few weeks we will be permadeccing goons.
This is what we commonly see..... and yes you can see our boosters.
Eve Uni thinks our boosts are unfair
I am an avid reader of all dev blogs, patch notes, and CSM minutes because I have to know what is going on so I can continue to have an edge against the masses. It is not uncommon for us to kill 3 to 5 ships and then our enemies return with a fleet of 50 people.
Test BC's that died
Test Returns with fleet after dying
What I am getting at with all of this is that boosting only makes a difference, and can be noticed, when the users already have an advantage. Eve Uni doesn't complain about our boosters when they have extreme odds. Test didnt complain about our boosters when they had logistics. Too many people as of late have been on this bandwagon to nerf boosters but it won't change how the people that use them fly. If I want to kite I still have to fit nano's. If I have to grab point I still need to overheat. If I want to play station games I still need a buffer. If I want to become unjammable I still need ECCM.
Boosting is and will always be one of the many ways a fleet can gain an advantage over their adversaries.
Current ways of gaining an advantage and their outcome:
ECM: Jam dps, ecm, or logi ECCM: not jammed as much Logi: help fleet stay on field longer Alpha Ships: logi cant deal with alpha damage Proteus booster: increase sensor strength to not get jammed/jam easier Legion booster: boost armor stats to stay on field longer Loki booster: boost kiting tactics to keep out of web range/sig tank Tengu: boost shield stats to stay on field longer Blob: Overwhelm enemy Capitals: out dps/rep enemy Titan bridge: move entire fleet in seconds Covert OPs: go undetected Skill: outsmart enemy <<<<<<<<<<< 90% of a fight
The only time I have ever seen people repeatedly complain about boosting is when they repeatedly accepted fights where they had NO ADVANTAGES listed above but yet wondered why they died. The sad thing about all of this is that one of our biggest complainers, eve uni, has a member on the CSM. Eve uni commonly tells us in local that if we didn't have boosters then we wouldn't have killed them. Yes Eve uni, we killed your Armageddon with t1 MEDIUM guns because we had boosts.
I hope and pray CCP and CCP Fozzie ignore the sore losers on this topic. Since day 1 of eve and LIFE losers have always been looking for excuses as to why they died or lost. Even if boosters are nerfed we will be having a discussion just like this one a year down the road with people saying that its unfair that so and so had this in their fleet.
Simple questions that will help decision making;
Should an EXTREMELY specialized toon with over 20 mil sp not give an advantage to the fleet it is in?
What is the success ratio of the people complaining about the boosters? Do they even understand pvp?
If a tengu booster increases shield ehp shouldnt Pith-A invulns be nerfed too?
Afterburners are the only prop mod that gets better velocity by getting one with a better name. Since that increases speed and helps sig tanking shouldnt it be nerfed along with loki booster?
Did the alliances with on grid boosters win the recent alliance tournament?
If you are reading those and feel like they are taking things too far then you need to also keep your mouth shut on boosting. The 4 boosters are just a few advantage of many in this game and people WILL ALWAYS have advantages. LOSERS will always point fingers BUT it is up to the ones with power to determine who is more full of crap. Just because a portion of the people say something is bad doesn't mean the masses should suffer..... Winners will always be winners and LOSERS will always be looking for excuses.

If you hate them so much why dont you train up a toon for a year and a half and have boosts. Or wait, are you not wanting to spend the time and money like the boosters did?

not trying to rain on your parade, it's just the more often than not the stories and examples we read about here are always "blobs" v 1 and in that sense, true solo PvP isn't even in existence, so at least with an OGB the "1" has a better chance of surviving the "many"
the only change that can be made there has nothing to do with CCP, rather it requires a change of mentality by players.

not much DPS, but also hard to kill, so it makes perfect sense to go after the logis as they are always (to my knowledge) much easier to kill and sometimes easier even when receiving reciprocal reps.

I happen to agree with the statement "You get what you pay for in this game and the amount of time you put in" wholeheartedly!!!
3 of my accounts have toons on them with all leadership skills to lvl 5, it was done intentionally, other accounts have pilots that can run the 5 link legion or tengu, again, done intentionally. A decent gust of wind would likely rip those ships apart simply because of the role they are fit for.
This is not to say that even I don't agree that certain areas need work, because I do, but I also think that it would be horrendous for anything to come in and nullify the time put into those toons and skills simply because people who aren't willing to do the same complain about it. (not everyone of course)
it has long been said in almost every discussion over p2w,plex,mechanics or anything else that "time" in EvE is the basis for everything(condensed), so good call.
on a personal note, I copied your other post to a text file to share with my wing and squad commanders... good info in there for any FC/wing/squad leader.

I agree completely with this, but want to point out that a booster isn't simply a 2vX. It's not a 1vX either. It's... 1+Booster v X. You play and fly differently when there's nobody to come to your aid. And you play and fly differently when you do (and don't!) have a booster.
Anyway: nerf link strength into the ground for both on grid and off grid links.

Boosts don't make or break a fight at least not for us. All our ships can perform to the same effect without them.
I find the problem with most of our targets as a corp is the fact that most people can't grasp the way we fly and blame boosts.
Boosts aren't the reason you can't hit my ship thats another game mechanic entirely (sig radius/speed vs gun resolution).
However boosts are the reason you didn't get to run away as easily as you would have hoped and I think this is what angers people the most. When things go south they want to run outside of point range and high tail it but I have a boosted point so they can't do this which in turn causes rage towards boost when the person should be looking critically at why they failed the fight in the first place.
Everyone knows me I fly oversized AB exclusively and I promise you I didn't win because of boost, I won because my sig radius isn't 4x the necessary resolution for your guns to track properly. This is how we fight outnumbered and will always be that way. Don't blame boosts blame your lack of understanding of my flight tactics.
Besides the OGB won't even matter in high sec anyways. But I won't lie I don't feel like having to warp the command ship on grid every time I fight even though I can hold the fight easily without it. |

I meant to put everyone WHO knows.
And sig radius reduction isn't going to matter if my sig radius is still 5x bigger than necessary now is it?
Guns start to miss fairly easily at about 1500m/s or so, I should have clarified this. You don't need boost to obtain this speed. |

Nerfing the boosts effective percentages is rather pointless. Leadership skills have been around for quite some time but over the ages more and more complainers come to the forum want heads on the table for why they lost.
9 times out of 10 people die due to their own piloting errors/fc errors. As I stated before boosts is just one of many advantages people have to gain an edge in a fight. If you arent going into a fight with an advantage then you will lose every time.
Skill does count as an advantage and yes I know most of you wont admit to sucking. Thats where most go wrong in the first place.
Reiterate my points from earlier:
Logi's and jammers are far better game changers than boosts.
Logi's can PERMANENTLY keep a ship on field alive
Jammers can PERMANENTLY jam a ship out of a fight
BOOSTERS CANNOT directly affect a fight like said ships above. When you pvp with a booster you still have to grab point and fire your guns in order to win. Boosters are not game changers, they are just another ADVANTAGE! |

Confirming that people only complain about things they loose to. We fight boosted fleet just as well as unboosted they all die in a fire just the same.
If you play your game with the stupid selected item window you've already lost the fight. approach F1 pvpers lol. I must catch web/scram or else I can't function. I can't think of other tactics to use against my opponent other than my cookie cutter fit. Everything has a counter in this game boosts are just an advantage as he said but so what?
If you make a well rounded fleet, boosts really aren't an issue. Most people don't want to actually form a fleet that complements its parts. Everyone wants to jump into "DPS" and get top damage on the mail and not fill roles such as effective tackling and making up for the fleet's weaknesses.
We like to fly essentially more or less nano fits. Now as an FC in my fleet I naturally think when we head out what are my weaknesses? Obviously long range webbing ships. Say I run into an actual tanky webber such as the brick loki. I have already prepared for this and whether the loki has boosted web/point range or not he will still die because his counter is in place and ready to damp him into nothing. The good thing about this little juicy ship is effectively removes all forms of "nuisance" ships from the field whether they have boosts or not.
So in that I say boosts don't decide the fight its pilot skill and fleet composition. |

CCP also understands that complainers and sore losers flood these forums with BS everyday.
OGB are less of an asset as a logi or a falcon considering they don't directly affect a fight. The only thing that drives people mad about them is that they are too lazy to train any other skill in leadership BUT leadership level 5. When the skills are completed the Rewards are worth the time put in to get them.
This argument is just like a person working 10 hours a week wondering why the person working 40 hours a week makes more. THE MORE TIME YOU PUT INTO SOMETHING THE MORE YOU GET OUT OF IT!

Example #1 of how OGB directly affects a fight. Target is 3km out of point range when your fleet lands. Turn on links, target is now tackled.
Is that not direct to you?
Example #2: Your logi is struggling to keep ships up with the loads of dps the enemy is pouring on them. Turn on links, now your whole fleet will take less damage, perhaps enabling logi to keep up with dps. Also, your logi will rep faster with less drain on capacitor.
I think the only reason people are saying the effects are not "direct" is because teh boosters aren't actually on grid at this point. Since it really doesn't make sense to say that these boosts do not directly affect your ability to tank or do other things on the battlefield. |

It would be pretty easy to limit to on grid. For example they could limit the boost to locked friendly targets. If they wanted to make it more active, you'd even have to activate a module on your target to give it a temporary boost (longer than cycle time, obviously). (Of course that might have unintended/intended(?) implications like jamming the booster)
Alternatively they could cause the booster modules to generate a pulsing aura comparable to smartbombs, just larger, which applies a temporary buff. In this case buff duration and cycle time could be comparable. |

Maybe not a beacon, but at least some way to trace it. Like maybe a scanner module meant to tap into fleet comms and detect their boosters. |

Good point the faction war buttons can instantly tell if you are within 30k of it. It immediately stops when you are outside of it. Plus you do not get lp if you are outside of it and someone else is. Use the same mechanic for boosts at whatever range they want. Make faction war occupancy pvp instead of pve https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=53815&#post53815

I think the solution could be...
Create a set of skills that mimic the off-grid boosting. To be best of the possible effects you could ever get from off grid bosting.
Then make said skills completly non stackeable with leadership related skills bonuses and skills and particularly boosting effects.
Presto, solved, all of us solo'ers sped a few more months in skill training, and everyone else doesn't while they cntinue fling their offgrid booster alt.

If off grid sniping was deemed to be an exploit then why are they allowing off grid boosting? I am not saying OGB is an exploit but it is certainly avoiding game mechanics such as having that boosting ship popped. Two of the defining characteristics of a carebear are wanting other players to play the way the carebear wants and whining on the forums for the game to change when they don't. Yet I see more threads on these forums from gankers than I do miners whining about wanting the game changed to suit them. |

If OFG boosting gets nerfed to only being able to boost ongrid. Miners will cry. Since this Nerf will have to cover both PVP and PVE boosting. |

I'm ok with that...It should affect everyone equally... Off grid boosting is a broken mechanic, CCP knows and admits this. So it's really about finding a Dev who knows how to properly use flags, and if there is no "Ongrid flag" then a simple distance calc would do it as well....say 250k?
It's funny, but in most fleets I flew in over the last few years, many of the command ships were on-grid, guess there are simply too many risk-adverse people in the game now.....Or too many alts.... The single biggest danger to EVE is the proliferation of ALTS! Kill an alt today!

The simple fact is (vets, get your tissues) OGBs hurt new players getting into pvp, and that is what matters. It solely benefits players with enough experience and account age(s), but it is the influx of new players at the moment that is keeping eve afloat. Since virtually every ship rebalanced so far has been aimed at making pvp in EVE more accessible and competitive (and more enjoyable) and with more options for newer players--and has largely succeeded so far in that-- OGB boosts is on the chopping block and needs to be fixed ASAP. I don't care if it takes breaking 10 things to remove it, or requires, say, having fleetmates targeted to boost them--it doesn't matter, OGB needs to go.
The amount of a gap it puts between the vet and the newb in the same ship with the same fittings is simply massive--yet that is not the only problem. The bigger problem is that it puts the vet at such a huge advantage with very little risk involved, and that is entirely contrary to the nature of EVE. Having a 2b isk set of implants gives the player an advantage, but with massive risk. Having a 2b OGB gives the player a massive advantage, at virtually no added risk. That's not EVE. |

yes. However they should not be safe. And they should be shown on KB.

success ration is highest on hulk-suiciders. And yes, "Player versus Player" is easy to understand. So where is your point here?

If you want it, then i can agree. However i don't see any connections between module on ship (which can be destroyed in fight) and OGB which sometime cannot be aggressed (like when i undock my booster and it sits right on undock in high-sec).

Why the need and knee jerk reaction to remove off grid boosts anyway. A simple solution would just be to give each ship which can utilise them an effective range. 2au for instance on a command ship and 32au for a rorqual for example. |
