The only things that changed before and after were Eve and my nVidia drivers (from 71.84 to 77.72).
I rerolled back the drivers and it still lags.
The UI itself seems to be fine, it's just the ship and space view. It doesn't seem to matter what is going on around my ship, It will freeze, then 5 or more seconds later will update to where it should be, and it affects the camera as well, having it wander around while frozen. It will often have slowdown without freezing, then speed up to catch up with the video feed.
My best guess is the new LOD is affecting my computer negatively.
I run an FX 5700, Athlon 2000+, and 512Mb of DDR333.
This is a new problem for me, and only appeared after this patch.

I am having the same trouble and i was jumping a gate and when i got updated i had been shot five or six times my sheilds had gone and the armour was three quarters gone before my ship wrapped out..
I am guess that as this is partly due to the patch update for so many poeple?

I can confirm that too however I doubt it has anything to do with the patch since I upgraded my nVidia drivers before the patch and Exodus got lagged. Rolled back to 61.77 and Exodus worked perfect, no lag with winamp playing at the same time either. Thus CWE works without any problems too.
So it's most likely not due to the patch but due to the gfx drivers.

I rolled back the drivers to the ones that used to work, and it still does the lag dance.

Ok, this is exactly my problem. Occured also right after this patch. Never had problems before like this, also not with two client running.
My system: Athlon 2000XP, Geforce Ti-4200, 1GB RAM

Edited by: Lisa Run on 06/07/2005 16:49:31 Which operating system do you use ? I use still Win98SE for gaming.
Something I tried: Game in windows mode, enabled FPS graph with Alt+F.
1) Eve window is active in the foreground => FPS graph goes up and down and all animations are unsmooth/laggy/choppy e.g flying ships etc.
2) Eve window is in the background => FPS graph is relatively smooth and animations look smooth, too.
Good to know, but I can't play eve when the window is in the background, only when it's active or fullscreen and then the FPS graph jumps up and down and it's unplayable.

I have the same problem. It has obviously come with the patch, happens all the time (3-5 times during one single warp) and is VERY annoying.
I have a GF4200ti-8x, WindowsMe and tried almost all NVidia driver WHQL and all...

This a duel screenshot conparison for what its like in forground and background, I hope this is what everyone is talking about. It's a real problem that makes playing miserable

Yes, exactly. Screenshots look similar to what I see when I try it.

I usually don't ask for a dev responce, but I think this warrants one. I can't play the game normally atm, only handicapped. It's kinda frustrating.

I've also been having very annoying "gameplay stuttering" issues since patch, similar to described earlier in this thread.
Windows 98, GeForce 5600 Ultra, 512 megs RAM.
Game was running nice and smooth before patch.

Confirm the foreground lag effect.
Usually running two accounts; the one in the foreground now has quite often (couple times per minute perhaps) a few seconds freeze.
The game is still rather playable for predictable PvE, but still rather annoying effect. Guess should bug report it.

I'm getting the same problem myself, in background its ok, also i found out if you move the camra around it will smooth out, at least it did for me
maybe its because we are now seeing the lag in the game? I would really hate to see that i lag that much...

Edited by: monkiboi on 07/07/2005 08:38:40 It's very disconcerting. The spikes in frame rates is really odd ranging from 300fps to over a 1000! These coincide with the visual jumping that I see on screen i.e. my ship is aligning for warp and suddenly it's aligned and ready for warp. Oddly enough general frame rates seem a bit better which helps on a low end card like mine (ATI Radeon 9250)although the frame jumping negates this.
As with others nothing has changed system or driver wise. Unfortunately I'm running the last w98 ati drivers for my card so if it is a driver incompatibility then I'm screwed until I upgrade. Was planning to but it's still a pain.
BTW this is with audio, effects and turrets off as well.
*Forgot to say that I play full screen. haven't tried windowed which I assume would be worse anyway.

I run 2 machines, one on winxp and one win98. My winxp based machine runs fine but my win98 machine has these lags you all speak of. It all started after installing the new cold war patch.

It is actually much more then "lag". It looks like strange mix of lag and display bug.. the camera view (especially during warp) seems to stray to the sides, the animation stops but the camera keeps "moving"..
I have now tried ALL WinME nvidia drivers from 30.82 to 77.72. Same thing. Game is near unplayable. Was this necessary?
We must have something in common apart from the bug ;)
OS: WIndows Me MOBO: KT400-8235 (VIA 4in1 4.51 drivers - reverted to) RAM: 512MB DDR GFX: ti4200-8x (tried all ME nvidia drivers with no luck) CPU: AMD BARTON 2500MHz NET: 4Mb/s ADSL

Greetings I too am getting this issue.
I can comfirm that the only recent change has been the "Cold War" patch.
No graphics issues previous, now issues with temporary freezing in combat, warping, docking etc Mainly 1-2 sec - sometimes upto 10 or so sec in combat. Traffic over connection is exceedingly low - 256k adsl connection - so it is not link saturation.
I have an effective clean system with just 1 game installed - that being Eve.
System spec: Win98 SE Amd Athlon 2000+ 512 mb Ram Nvidia GForce4 MX440 graphics card Screen resolution 1152x864 32bit colour Nvidia Driver version 56.64
Patch was downloaded via bittorrent on day of release.
The FPS graph is all over the place :-(
A fix would be much apprecated for this as it has only occured since the patch installation.

Definitely something wrong with Cold War + Win 98(SE) / Win ME. You don't have to be ingame to notice it. If I press Alt+F in the login window, I see the same ups und downs in the fps graph and 'lagging' animation every few seconds like when I'm playing. And in the login screen, there is no 3d graphics and a lot of processing. Here EVE draws only the background and the FPS graph.
I hope that CCP finds and older machine somewhere in a corner to try it out themselves.
