I had always long to be in a titan or supercarrier that in fact was my final end game goal to the point that if I had the isk I could run either right now...... After watching the giant battle I was realized just how boring that would be...
I just watched one of the most boring battles ive seen in awhile which is a shame because it could have, should been so much more.
You had over 500 CAPITALS on the field at once. 15 titans, 182 supers, 250+ carriers, 100+ dreads, and over 500 subcaps on the same grid.... Instead of being a glorious battle it was a slow moving blob.... FC calls target... everyone fires at target x super//carrier//dread. Ship dies. Next target in line gets killed. Even without the TiDi at 10% I don't think it would have been that much better....
Where's the tactics, the excitement, the enjoyment of a big capital space battle??? After seeing what actually happens when you have an amount of isk that in real world dollars could easily buy a fairly nice car that took years of total player time to build you can have it....
I just can't see the fun in flying a super or titan anymore....
Side Note: Alt.... I am quite happy in null sec currently doing skirmishes.. |

Not to mention that buying one makes your character useless until the supers are needed for a fleet so if your not in a fleet your character is just baby sitting. Although I still think it would be cool to be one of the people flying a cap over someone flying a Maelstrom or something. DUST514 isn't on PC because CCP wants 2 different communities influencing each other, not people tabbing out to give themselves Orbital Strikes. Often videos you see are mega zoomed out to show you the scale of the fight however they're not very exciting. You just have to go on youtube to see that most eve fleet battles when viewed externally are quite boring. What adds excitement when you're actually there is.............well you're actually there. Things actually matter to the person who is in that capital ship shooting at other capital ships. Your in the situation, with your alliance mates on teamspeak. Furthermore calling primaries is a tactic.......so blame CCP for not making gameplay look like a trailer and not having unupgraded server systems where local rises above jita numbers. |

Quite frankly, watching any sort of eve combat you're not involved in is boring (the alliance tournament might squeak past since they try really hard to make it interesting) that's why they don't use actual gameplay in any of their eve ads. |

It's quite simple , there are people who enjoy being told what to do and there are people who like to keep it small so they're part in the battle evolves around more then just pressing F1.Also if your in a small group what you do ''shows out more'' then when in a large blob making it more satisfying for the person flying that ship.Certainly if your not into sov stuff.
Is any of these two lesser/better?Helll no we all play how we like it but it's not because the OP says he doesnt see the fun in blob warfare that he should be seen as someone who dislikes pvp , is risk averse or is a hghsecboy. His flavour just more lies in small scale wich i can really understand.

Well to most vets that play, losing a Frig, BC or BS doesn't get the adrenaline rushing anymore. The possibility of losing or inflicting billions of isk loss still does tho. A battle can be all smooth and easy going and you feel invincible in your supercap with all your supercap friends around, and all of the sudden you get spammed by dictors and hictors and hostile supers jump in and no one has a clue what is going on, what to do, fight or retreat? I would say that gets even the most bitter vets adrenaline rushing still. It might look boring from the outside, but on the inside it is hectic, wrong decisions can break your neck, good decisions can save your life, and sometimes no matter what you do, you are ******, you just dont know it yet.
Also, no one wants to lose a super, it is humiliating no matter how good you fight. So you see, there is alot at stake when you fly a super, and you will be VERY eager to NOT lose it in a stupid or even glorious way. |

Its ok, every fresh player dream about titan, nyx etc, but after some time like 90% of them realize this is totaly boring and expensiv playground, in general large battles are full of stres and lag, and even titan may explode in less than 50sec when large group of capitals focus fire. So let me get this straight: So some high sec people ar ein this thread commenting about how "boring" a big huge epic supercapital fight was.
The same people that constantly tell us that "we" ruined null sec because everyone (especially huge groups like Goons and TEST) are "blue to everyone" and that null sec is so empty because no fights ever happen there etc etc.
High Sec people....
The same people who defend AFK MINING and and other super boring activities and who can't be bnother to risk so much as a rifter outside of the protective skirts of CONCORD are in this thread looking down on people who (in te finest EVE tradition) risked ships litterally worth 10s or 100s of thousands of real dollars....
If you ever want to know why I and others like me dispise the average "high sec/carebar/solo player" and wish they all GB2WoW, this thread is a very good point of reference. |

goona put my grain of sand here, well the battle sounds like fun 6000+ guys in local, but most part of them blues sh*tting each other with their capital ships.
to be honest, i dream to have my own cap, but seeing more big ships than small or medium sized ones just doesnt feel like combat, i mean.
im used to the philosophy of fighters vs caps, or more realistic planes vs battleships. so it looks a bit weird to see such blob on the battlefield, without organization, this adding that these ships are slow has hell that they practically arent moving.
also, the effort that has to put the server in mantaining the battle without going down, and the number of players which doesnt allow to see sh*t on the screen, you have to see the battle from far away.
dont want to discourage cap pilots, but man, i was expecting something more, you know, dinamic (at least in terms of what dinamic means in EVE) |

If you ever want to know why I and others like me dispise the average "high sec/carebar/solo player" and wish they all GB2WoW, this thread is a very good point of reference.
Try understand that large group of hi sec players or these who for some reason stop pvp, are also veterans bored of this game mechanic because they taste this game aspects (sov war) years ago, realy come on, not every player are slave of pvp forever for years, i was in null space involed to this sov war long time ago, few years before you create this character which you use it in forum, why you generalise all people, you sound like student with big ego who think is smarter than old proffesor.
Focusing only on pvp doesn't make you better, it may boost only ego, but nothing more. EvE isn't game, its style of living. |

Well, the video has taught you that fighting in huge fleets isn't your cup of tea. That's good, now you know something new about yourself, and you can adjust your career plans. I don't like fighting in blobs either, I learned that in DAoC. and so i've never considered nullsec to be a place I want to go. Some people love fighting in big fleets. A few of them posted here. Yay for them. They can go out to null and fleet all day. Do whatever you think is fun and dont worry about the other people who think something else is fun than you do. |

Yah, for people used to fighting in nullsec, lowsec can be extremely limiting. Bubbles, bombs, and doomsdays are usually an important part of fleets of this size, but none of them were available because it happened to go down in a lowsec system. |

The videos do not capture the intricacies in a large fleet battle. In these heavily TiDi situations, pilots are presented with a host of unique problems. Under heavy TiDi, a few seconds of delay easily becomes minutes of delay. Each mistake you make can take minutes to correct (e.g. deploying sentries instead of fighters, switching targets). In normal small gang combat, you can make a decision and, within seconds, measure the result to make adjustments. In these fleet battles, minutes will pass before you can even start to observe the results, all the time realizing that reinforcements are on their way unencumbered by TiDi. You can't dilly-dally. And you can't afford to make mistakes.

Really, jokes aside, (and not very good ones at that), EVE doesn't have an end game, it simply has a limitation of what you can do, and how far you can go. It just boggles my mind that these vocal high sec based haters are so warped that they could look at the best, most epic part of EVE Online and find a way to crap on it.

You are right and my comment was far too short and lacked nuance. Probably because I spent 30 minutes repeating a few RnK vids before posting.
My advice to the OP would still be the same, mainly because RnK vids feature some of the most important bits to capture what OP found lacking (sense of Tactics, excitement etc.), and that is voice comms. With Tidi and a sped up video that becomes impossible ofc. I was very dissapointed when the voice comms switched to music in the Asakai vid when the first blob landed and Tidi set in. It became a lot less interesting to watch. Lots of flashy jump graphics, and a humongous blob, but the sense of what's happening dissapears.
Shorter me: You cannot use a video without voice as the slightest indication of how it felt to be there. |

I don't know. I've read a lot on the forums and in these hi-sec vs other-sec threads you seem to be pretty vigilant on how hi-sec ruins the game. Its as if everytime someone in hi-sec earns isk, you act its like the banjo music from Delieverence starts playing and miners come out of the wood work to have their way with you.

We don't talk about what happened that night in the backwoods of Jita, that was a long time ago and i'm over it.
But seriously. High Sec is a necessary evil at best and i get that. The majority of players there and everywhere are sensible I would think.

That battle was an anomaly given the sheer number of alliances and capitals involved and lowsec is terrible to begin with and has the worst hardware. Most large fleet fights in 0.0 are LOTS of fun. Anywhere from 500-1500 in local runs fairly well and are quite fun. More then 1500 starts to be a little too laggy.

Nice vids , EXcellently explained why they did X and why they didn't do Y.They show big balls , a big knowledge off the game and i especially love how ''calm and decent'' they behave with orders etc during fights''

Giant fights for the win. More ISK for us miners helping to replace the losses.
Small fights? Bah. A few BC losses is not going to keep the 80% of EVE players, you know us carebears, employed.
800+B in ships destroyed? My 4 toons (orca + 3 hulks) mine 1 billion a week( which is 250 mil per miner per week). So that one fight will keep 3,200 miner accounts fully employed for a full year. At $15 real x 12 months x 3200 accounts, that would be half a million dollars real to CCP.
(I know, I know... some of the loss was T2, which is more moon goo than rock bits. But these big fights take A LOT of minerals off the market!)

Some of us aren't that interested in sub cap fights. I understand why some people like small frigate fights and such but personally sub cap fights bore me. |

I like Cruiser and Battlecruiser sized fights. They don't go pop as fast as frigates and dessies, but aren't as slow as battleship and above fights. ive been in cap ships in a cap fight, i prefer being in a cruiser or BS sized support ship during a cap fight though.
All that is moot to me, it isn't really about "play style" and "preferences". it's about some people simply being haters when real EVE player participate in real EVE battles that make the news and go down in history, and about jealousy at the fact that no one will remember how they saved that damn stupid always getting her self kidnapped Damsel for the 12,345th time.....

Some people prefer cap fights, others prefer sub caps, both are perfectly valid preferences. I don't really see a need to try and prove one is superior to the other, and frankly both are necessary.
Obviously the latest big cap fight was a bit slow paced. It was in the worst possible location (low sec) for a large fight due to additional crime watch server load, and due to being so unexpected it was not on a reinforced node.
Yet it still ran (albeit slowly) and fun was had by all.
Throwing stones is a favoirite passtime on these forums, but this little brick slinging fest is pretty pointless. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

to be honest, i dream to have my own cap, but seeing more big ships than small or medium sized ones just doesnt feel like combat, i mean.
im used to the philosophy of fighters vs caps, or more realistic planes vs battleships. so it looks a bit weird to see such blob on the battlefield, without organization, this adding that these ships are slow has hell that they practically arent moving.
also, the effort that has to put the server in mantaining the battle without going down, and the number of players which doesnt allow to see sh*t on the screen, you have to see the battle from far away.
dont want to discourage cap pilots, but man, i was expecting something more, you know, dinamic (at least in terms of what dinamic means in EVE)
Without organization? There was a huge amount of organization by every group involved - multiple fleets calling different targets/align points, coordinating objectives etc. The cluster of ships was mainly due to TiDi with 2k+ people in system - 15-20 minutes of "fighting" over the course of 3-4 hours - aligns, warps were measured in 10's of minutes. Positioning was nearly impossible - we were working with what we had.
I enjoyed the fight, though the massive TiDi made me turn on a movie. |

Other games just can't compare because they're all about delivering a visual and sound stimulation experience, while the teamwork component is small or nonexistent and the stuff you get cannot be taken away from you. -á"The Mittani: Hated By Badposters i'm strangely comfortable with it" -Mittens |
