Now I'm not sure if we will be able to play the Jove race, but which would you rather see..
The Jovians being a race you can play or a technology-driven NPC race bent on beating the other four?
I know the known info about the race doesn't exactly support them declaring war on all other races but they are a mystery after all :)
I'd like to see the second option.

From the jovian cd key bug from the initial release, I'd say that the Jove will be playable at some point. How this will be done though is a point for speculation.

I'd like to see a few of the dedicated players have acces to the Jove race first. Make it a proper role play event.
Have a few roleplayers and GMs play the first jovians to make first contact. Let them decide how first contact should go, and all the knock on effects that would bring.
That would be cool.

I don't care much for the Jove, they're just too good in my opinion. Maybe if they were balanced, add them. I would hate to see everyone drop what they're doing to simply use Jovian ships, I like the diversity we have right now.
Why would they be borg like at all? Aren't the Jove supposed to be highly xenophobic?
I'm sure the Jove will be added sooner or later but man I would love to see science skills, leadership skills, reverse engineering, and all that in first before a new race. ------

Personally would love to see them as interesting, nasty and powerful NPCs (plus significant characters played by GMs). Adding them as a player race would be a balancing nightmare. After all, if they're as 'ard as we seem to think they are, why would anyone want to play one of the current races? - Carp Riddell - CEO, Innsmouth Shipping - Proud Member of Curse Alliance

I don't mean to be rude, Jim, but how can you say they're not balanced? Has anyone had any experience with the Jove (and I don't mean a sighting of a GM in one)?

In beta even the jove frigate skill was rank 12, so i guess not that many non-jovians would fly jove ships.

From what I've seen on the Jove, their starting stats are superior to other races, and from the GM in a Jove ship screenshot, their frigates have the stats of cruisers.
Now yes, their skills are insanely long to train but, eventually everyone would be using a Jove ship, leaving the other races technology quite useless. ------

Its been said by Devs, and Pann herself. Joves WILL eventually be a playable race, but I don't think its going to be a character you can just start off with..
What I mean is, if they are so damn powerful, do you think you will be able to make them right off the back? I think, after the Jove Key "Joke" that went and glitched, that a Jovian character will be a privaledge, an award. Be it to someone who has been around since Alpha Beta, or someone who has put their all into the community, or to oldschool players (by the time you are able to play Jovian, people who have played from Launch will be old..), etc.
If they are accessible to anyone, then a pack of 5 Jovian frigates can easily wipe out a corporation like TTI (by this I'm pointing out the extensive size of TTI); if they knew what they where doing.
So, IMO, I definetly think if you plan to play as a Jovian, do something to earn it.

Isn't it a little bit of a Stretch to draw such conclusions from one spotted ship, flown by a GM, which could have had any of its stats altered to fit with what the GM's purpose was?
I'm pretty sure they wouldn't just whack all the Jove stuff in, if it is that powerful, without there being some extremely negative side to it - other than skill training time.
Saying that everyone will be in Jove ships is the same argument of everyone will eventually be in battleships, which is quite frankly wrong. A group of Frigates could have a battleship if it was unsupported by Frigates and Cruisers of its own.
Just because the Jove frigate we saw appears to be better, it doesn't mean it will be.

Jovian face, body, hair, and clothes models are in the code of the game but not visible from character creation. I think that speaks for itself regarding the question of them being playable or not. i dont think just giving a jove char to some1 whom the devs have deemed as worthy is a good idea. However, i also dont think making them avaliable from start is a good idea either, due to the balancing issues that have already been mentioned. Maybe unlock them after an existing players character has at least a certain number of skill points, or has been alive for a certain amount of time. Or maybe the ability to play a jove character could be something somebody could purchase, but only with the help of a corp due to excessive cost. Just a few ideas, but i would like to see every1 ABLE to access the jove characters if theyr prepared to undergo some effort.

Actually I "heard" that instead of MAKING a jove character at creation instead you can use bioimplants and genetic mutators to BECOME jovian.
Whether this is true or not I have no idea but I think its a much better solution than actually adding a new race.

I'm not sure where anymore, but during beta i also read that that players could only become jovians through implants etc... I have read nothing new in the last 2 and a half months however. It seems like implants are the most likely route to jove status. But who knows now...cpp has had a long time to change its mind and write new code.

I think people are asking the wrong question. Not "Can I be a Jovian?" but "What good will it be to become a Jovian?". Nobody has ever explained to me the good in becoming one
Let's say 2 months from now, one of the 1st Dayers gets to become a Jovian. So he...what? Gets attribute bonuses? Won't do someone that old much good. Sure, might save on Titan lvl 5. But a lot of stats will already be maxed.
He gets access to Jovian technology? ROFL! Lord Zap + Jovian Battleship = X. How can describe what 'X' is for us? Not to pick on Lord Zap in any way, however. I'd be hard pressed to find a reason to not to murder half the universe with super powerful technology.
Roleplay possibilities? I can play an arrogant, sociopathic character right now (half of you will accuse me of the arrogance already, but s'kay).
They get to create a new character? Whoa! Don't come near me with that brain sucking raygun, please!
So before I become concerned about becoming a Jovian, can someone explain the benefits?

um. jovians are more powerful then the other races. and isn't becoming more powerful everyone's basic goal in a game like this?

The last news i heard on Jovians was that players who accumulated the necessary isk, skill levels, ratings etc. may be invited to become jovians. These levels were supposed to be so high that it should not happen for a long time after release. I do not know if this is still the case though. This was back in beta and may have changed. --------------------------------------------- Engineers motto; If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks it needed replacing anyway. |

<< um. jovians are more powerful then the other races. and isn't becoming more powerful everyone's basic goal in a game like this? >>
More powerful how? Attributes? Won't matter at that point. Getting better attributes as a starting character would be a hell of a benefit. But it won't even phase an established character.
So what's left after that?

<< what's left? ships, weapons, modules, etc. >>
So you might get to drive a titan that more powerful than anyone elses? Aside from the entire "1 Man Deathstar" balance issue that's waiting there...Will it matter? So now you get to have access to a Jovian Titan and do what with it? Really mine the hell out of a solarsystem? Really smack the crap out of battleships you prolly already could beat with your normal skills and equipment?
What's the benefit?

Why is it I suddenly suspect nobody knows what the benefits are for becoming a Jovian and how it will effect their current characters?

because we can only guess at the benefits right now. and we're only expressing what should be only the most obvious benefits: higher stats and better equipment and ships. the truth is, we really don't know what the devs have in store for us, and i don't think they want us to know.

I would rather see that the Jove's were turned over to something like the Polaris program for good. This game, according to me, is seriously lacking in role-playing. This is natural, some people don't know how and some don't want to. But giving the Joves to the "most experienced" player, and according to what I have read is the one with most skills, money and ships. This will only result in a Jove given to some character like Stavr0s or Zap - whohoo how fun indeed. I don't think I need to clarify myself any further ...

It's the sheer coolness of being a Jovian that you get. If you find no benefits , then don't try to get a Jove character slot.
It's an easter egg ;)

I can back-up Jim Raynors story here..
I two have seen Jovian ships.
A jovian frigate, this was back in beta. My friend in his Tempest battleship ingaged it and it took quite a while for him to destroy it.
I can second that Jovian frigates are as good if not better then our current cruisers.
Putting Jovians into the game as a playable race with their superior tech and superior stats would imho kill any balance CCP has desparitly tried to bring to EVE.
Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.
