I think the benefit to being Jove probably lies with the attribs (higher than a maxed out normie from the get-go, and +4 points for each learning skill, thus will train faster than anybody else) and the ships.
Judging from the jove frigate screenshot I saw, it had shields and armour better than most cruisers, and enough power/cpu to run just about anything.
But you'll need to be jove just to get the skill. (also, that was a lvl5 frigate, requiring 3 lvl5 skills, and with jove ranks, it will be months before you can fly just the frigate... I'd be interested in seeing how deadly the cruisers are.
And why would I want one? To kill people with, mainly. Just go out hunting PC pirates, collect some real bounties, and some real rare loot :) Or totally flip out, and go on a murdering spree. It's all gravy. .

That's not a real jove ship tho, as the race must first be 'balanced' in order to be viable
and don't think that anyone can become jove. It'd take a lot of work to get there (presumably)

Just an idea of sorts:
Firstly, you cannot choose Jove at startup, clearly...
To become Jove you must first become a "Friend of Jove" and to do this you must interact with them (trading, buying, selling, agent missions etc.) to the point when your standing with Jove Empire is at a level where you are classed as a friend.
Then you must become extremely intelligent, you must level all science related skills and have x amount of skill points. This will take a while but without the knowledge of science you cannot transcend into Jove.
Once you are of a high intelligence (x skill points & various science skills levelled) you can then request to the high council of the Jove empire at their central station to be allowed to travel the path to ascension. This involves various skills & tasks to be completed (not thought about what) then the final step.
This is it, you are one step from transforming into Jove. You must face the ultimate in concentration, isolation and meditation. At the central station you must dock and you are placed in a sealed capsule for 1 week with no interaction with anyone, or able to do anything at all. After the week is up, you emerge like a butterfly from a chrysalis and you are Jove.
The last bit will kill any EVE addict but you can always do stuff with you alt :-)
God work is dull!

People , people , people .....when will you learn, a game such is as Eve should allow for a huge element of Role Play. The amount of posts I see simply craving for a better ship, bigger guns etc sickens me. If the Jove are introduced which they no doubt will be it will be a bad day if all you do is rush to get in the best ship etc. Ive been playing for sometime now and still fly a Frigate. I have the skills for a cruiser but my 'character' has no need to move onto that yet. Im happy with his place in life and his interaction with others. The day you all stop craving for Battle ships and spend a little time inventing a character with a background, goals and personality is the day MMORPG's really take off.

I have some Jovian textures I could show off, but im not sure if posting such things would be super-spoilers or against the EULA.. so I'll refrain from doing so. _____________________________________ Perpetually driven, your end is our beginning. "Can I be a consultant for EVE II?" - WhiteDwarf |

As mentioned previously, being Jovian is something that players can aspire to and eventually will be able to evolve into, though that's as much as has ever been said publicly about it. There are other things that take higher priority over introducing the Jovian race into the game and we need to take care of those things first.
Yes, the ships are available - meaning that they are coded and the artwork is done, not that players can make or buy them. The avatar artwork is not completed yet.
The designers are fairly closed mouthed about the whole Jovian thing so getting any information about it - even as part of the team - is rather difficult. I would suspect that the data that can be pulled from the files now is not written in stone and most of it is subject to change. What we do know is that it will be something very cool and very special when the Jovians become part of the Eve game world.

"Evolve into" eh? Well that'll be excessive use of implants and boosters then. wOot :)
But I hope you're right Pann. The coming of the Jovians is going to have to be something *really* special.

I've heard from the beginning (the beginning of Beta) that the Jove race would be playable, but it was phrased as being something the characters of "other" races could eventually evolve into. They made it seem as though, once your character developed to a certain point, there was a chance you could "evolve" into a jove. Ive always kinda thought that it was once you accumulated a certain ammount of skill points or something would trigger it.

lol you people are funny. Jove should go to only certian people. Jove should only go to polaris. Jove should only go to long time players. Jove should only go to the elite. I will tell you how the jove are goning to be given out. They are going to be in an expansion. Just think a bit people. The bug required a cd key. How do you get a cd key? well you get a cd which has it. How do you get another cd? you buy it in an expansion. That is how they are going to decide who gets to be jove. The people willing to spend another 30.00 dollars or so on an expansion. |

I also think the "jove frigate" screenshot everyones been going ape over was actually a polaris ship. I was in Polaris for a short while, and everything ive heard about the "jove frigate" leads me to believe this is the case. Everyones going gaga over the shields and stuff on the thing, but a standard feature of polaris ships was strong shields and hull, so they could stand up to players that would inevitably try to add it to their trophy wall. They also have no offensive weapons whatsoever (the standard polaris ship, thats not to say that GMs cant take out armed ships when acting as PC Concord enforcers). Theres no way I can be sure without seeing things that I havent seen about the ship, but I would be carefull making assumptions that the ship in the screenshot is some uber powerfull jove frigate, and then extrapolating from there that the cruisers will be able to blow away battleships from other races.
