Yeah, don't go in the direction of EnB. Don't go to a boring EQ-clone-in-space-with-no-real-danger model.
I guess that means that if anything, low-sec empire needs to be more dangerous.
If you get NPC patrols in low-sec systems, I get random indy-ganking NPC suicide squads in high-sec systems.

As someone written here, putting NPC police in low sec will only cure some sympthoms but not the problem itself. The problem is not carebeares trying to haul goods in low sec space, and not mission-runners who were now nerfed to extinction. The problem is the small, but loud part of EVE population that finds killing other players a very funny activity. But if we look at the MMORPG's in general, players who force PvP on non combat players are considered pk's and pure griefers. In a fantasy game if a warrior char finds very funny killing clerics and craftsmen for no reason at all, he's a griefer. The same goes here too. Gate gankers who wait for hours to shoot some n00b in a frig or some defenceless hauler are grifers. What do they get from the kill? Exitement? I doubt it. ISK? Not really. They find fun in destroying the game for other players who are not interested in PvP at all. Sorry, but it's griefing. Their tactics of loot collection using alts are bordering on the exploit territory. They are cowardly killing a frig or a hauler, then running away and letting their buddies or alts to collect the remains. You guys always talk about Risk vs. Reward, but where's the risk for you, dear griefers?

No carebearization, thanks.
That's so patently full of horsecrap I almost spit coffee on my monitor. Could you have lied more blatantly? You are so full of it. Are your eyes brown?
So how much is "plenty", fool? It's been days, and you claim you've "seen" these pirate hunters spring up? Name two.
Noob space is noob space. The OP is correct - empire space is intended to be a safe zone for new players to get into the game. They can't police the spacelanes because they simply don't have the skills or equipment. Even the alliances can't police their own lanes in 0.0, you expect newbies to do better?
That's just stupid.
Pirating miners or NPC hunters is one thing - gate-ganking is completely different. Talk about no-challenge kills - gate-gankers are the most worthless excuse for PvP there's ever been in this game, and you want to defend them?
Let's see, what was your word...oh yeah, there it is:

It's not two put then not all people feel compelled to post their losses from a gatecamp.
@ the OP. Setting your autopilot to avoid podkill zones gives surprising results. What with empire wars and such. Some days you will see more podkills in Yulai than in the new .4 choke points.
Also, the patch released today should solve the problem of some of the longer jumps.
I find it quite disturbing that everybody who disagrees with you is a PK'ing griefer bully. Very mature way to get your point across.
There are a host of tools available to avoid this situation. Please dont ask the dev's to dumb down EVE to the lowest common denominator (i.e. YOU)

Very nice from you to call those who disagree with you the lowest denominator. Could you please expalin to me, why players who find fun in killing other players who are not at all interested in PvP are NOT pk's and grifers. I don't get it. Why in other MMORPG's a warrior on n00b killing rampage is considered a griefer by everyone, but in EVE a HAC pilot who kills n00bs and traders for hours is not?

Because EVE isnt the same ****ty EQ clone that most other MMOGs are. Stop comparing them, they are nothing alike.
EVE has risk. That risk is provided by players. If you cant handle risk, EVE's not for you.

And what the gankers are risking? The same gankers who call for risk vs. reward formula. When they see an overwhelming force they run away. But when they see a new player or a trader they are all on him. If you think it's proper PvPing, then a boxing match between 12 year old boy and a super-heavy weight should be an interesting thing for you to watch.

And from time to time, people come by who are intent on breaking up and destroying the camp. These would be people who actually have a clue and havent specialized in whining to the exclusion of all other combat systems.

Nice try, but you're desperately mistaken. Eve, in this context, is exactly the same as any other MMORPG. If you have a high-skill, big-equipment player knocking down low-skill, low-equipment players, that's griefing - and that is precisely alike.
Back to school with you, bud.

Funny that you should lead-in with that when you are the one whining. I'm surprised Evolution puts up with you - I was under the impression that they were real PvP players, and liked that reputation.

Thats not greifing. If youre in that space without the skill or intellegence to keep yourself alive, then thats just the application of the Risk side of Risk/Reward.

You could be right if the devs wouldn't encourage everyone to go to low sec by putting all the good staff there. And besides this, blaming the victim for being killed is lame. You can justify a *****this way, saying that the victim was dressed provocatevely. Your argument don't stand, srry.

As a "newb" with only 382,569 , 382,570 points I think it should stay just the way it is. I have played many different games over the years and grew bored with them. I find myself having to think more when it comes to this game. There should be areas that are unsafe and there should be risk. I started this game knowing that I will not be in .4 sace and below for awhile and when I first go it will probably be in an unarmed lame frigate just to explore and guage the dangers out there.
So far I have found enough to do in empire space to keep me occupied. I have a few million isk now I own 3 Destroyers, 9 Frigates, and 1 Iteron III. I am glad to have the ability to build up before I go to the next step so too speak. If 100% of space were to be like it is .5 and above this game would probably be gone. Once I amass a fleet and resources I shall move forward to .4 and below. I just hope if I do warp into an area I dont get killed before I can react. That would be my only true fear to be dead before I zoned in so too speak. I had a mission offer the other day that called for me going into .4 space I made the choice to say no. I had another that called for me to travel through 2 .4 sectors I chose to use F10 and map my own route. Anyways this is just a "newbs" impression and take on this topic. Enjoy

I'm not saying I'm a lovely fluffy character in-game. I give out good advice on how to look after yourself (and for free). If you cant be bothered or choose not to educate yourself then tough.
They bigger and stronger than you. They can kill you if and when they choose. They can do it for profit or for their casual amusement. Dont like it?
Then educate yourself or organise yourself or avoid the situation.

I'm really trying to undestand you, but sorry, I can't. 1-st - where's the risk for you? You only get the reward halve. 2-nd - what's so funny in ganking a n00b or a hauler? In my eyes, it's like doing lvl 1 missions in a batlleship for weeks. The only possible fun you can get there is from enjoing that you've caused some negative feeling in another player, and that's called griefing.

Your analogy does not stand. The equivalent of what you described in Eve would be someone advertising that he's got a brand new freighter in Yulai, and a gang of 5 BSs come along and blow it up for kicks.
What's happening here, is players are entering lawless regions, entirely of their own accord, and acting surprised when other people break the law. OMG!
There are pirates camping a gate leading to the 0.0 region you want to get to. Do you:
a) Form a gang with corpmates and clean the gate campers out? b) Hire mercenaries to clear the route for you and escort you to your destination? c) Fly through the gate solo and hope all the pirates are AFK? d) Come to the forums and campaign to remove non-consensual PvP?
There is a reason why low security space is more lucrative and also lawless at the same time. You are expected to fight for it!! If you want to stay on your free ride, do not leave empire space. If you are willing and prepared to fight to protect your own interests, then you have realised what is needed to turn a profit outside of empire.

1. Any gate camp could be attacked and blown so the risk is apparently lose of ship. 2. Basically noob =\= noob in eve. Often noob corp characted = alt and shuttle = skills\bpo .
In 0.0 I will not fire to all neutrals andin many cases times free passage will be given to non-npc corp member if they are not hostle and asking for it. Noob corp member are KOS by definition.

A few pointers 0.0 space: is obviously owned by serious and experienced players thus you noobies shouldn't and won't be allowed there, it would create confusion, divert players and you'd get killed by npc's anyways if not the pvp players. it takes political power, loads of players and all sorts of **** to maintain 0.0 - 0.1-0.5 Some of these low sec systems are patrolled by real corps, look at haine, rorsins etc... Also if you'd hop in a fast frig and make bookmarks you could travel your traderoutes easily and without getting an** ***ed in a hauler.
Also note that this is an RPG game.. which means roleplaying.. some choose the role of a pirate.. Why shouldn't they exercise their roleplaying where they can?! Small time piracy isn't going to be longlived in 0.0 If they'd go to curse to gank people .5. or their enemies would wtfpwn'em within a few minutes. So we've established 0.0 isn't a viable option for small time piracy...!? ok so now you want 0.1-0.5 patrolled... 0.0 is already patrolled.. where the **** you want the pirates then? playing Tetris? Or maybe you hold that naive thought piracy should be discouraged in that way.. **** that, hop in a frig with a few ppl, put on scramblers and have the sentrys shoot'em to pieces.
And to reply directly to your post Flyyn: 21jumps isn't such a long trip if you've got bookmarks. |
