[1] Ahoy M8y's, I'm looking for some kinf of grass roots upwards explanation on how to use the scanner, and on what scanning probes are (apart from probes that scan I can only manage to get it to work on roids at the moment, and dont understand it at all. Any help would be appreciated, and a full scanner guide would be met with gleefull skips and jumps.... (well maybe not but you get the idea) |

[5] I'll assume your talking about the normal scanner, not the overview or scan probes. The scanner works on the direction of the ships camara. when you use the scanner you will notice an angle projected from your ship, that changes depending on what scan angle you have set. Start on a full 360 scan to find whats in range, i think max range is 14 au's (to get max put 99999999999 in the range part and it will default to max which is 217bla-bla-bla kms). if you find a ship on the scanner remeber the name so it can be found quickly on the next scan. change the scan angle to 180 degrees, and scan in the same direction and search for the ship in the scanners results, if its not there turn the ships camara the oposite way and scan again. if you find the ship again then you know that it is in that direction, it will likly be near a planet moon station or stargate, so you can narrow the angle further and line the camara with those objects in space. if there is a few moons or planets that show up on the scanner in the same direction, you can reduce the scan range, and keep scanning, hoping to remove a few possibilitys from the results, when you get the ship and a few objects on the list you may want to warp to the objects (moons etc) to see if its there. Some ships will not be easy to find, as if the ship was at a object when it logged off the ship will be 1mil kms from that object, even though it seems close on the scan results, to find these ships you will need to use probes. I hope i havnt confused your scanning dilemma further. Muad 'dib |

[9] The use of scan probes are, probes that scan. No, but really, scan probes are really wierd. To be most effective, you must make a triangle with the scan probes, when you launch a probe it will have a circle around in on the scanner, showing how far it can scan. Now, For maximum effectiveness, the scan probes need to all be touching in the triangle, and overlapping in the middle. Also, there is a 1au buffer all around them. Now for the tricky part, It has to be on that same plane (1au up and down as well). Which is extremely tricky in a system that is not all on the same plane. Especially considering that we have a 2-d ******* scanner in 3-d ******* space. Or you can do it the ghetto way, get 1.5 mil km away from them, drop 3 scan probes, scan. ------ |

[11] So...this is how you find those hidden deadspace pockets and...ruins and such? I noticed the largest distance any probe can scan is 2AU, while all systems in Eve are hundreds of AU across. Does that mean I've got to spend 3 probes per 2AU (30k isk - 2mill isk) just to find ...what? I don't even know what scan probes find that the regular ctrl-f11 scanner doesn't find. This is all still very confusing to me. I'd like to know If I can use these things to make money. Can I do that? |
