Hiho everyone, IŠm currently on the mission "Scandal in Barkrik - The final Inspection". The first thing to do is, to find a hidden Amarr plantation. IŠve already found the one in Hjoramold, so I thought this one would be no big problem.
Well, either I didnŠt use the probes properly, or the hidden plantation is further than 48au away from any celestial object there. I used my probes everywhere I could, but didnŠt find any Cosmic Signature.
Training Astrometrics to Lvl5 to be able to use the 192au probes will take too long. The mission will be failed till then.
I already tried it in local some times, and now IŠm trying here: I need a pilot, who either already has a bookmark, or someone who can use the 192au probes and is willing to help me.
IŠd also pay for this service, as it is an important mission, just name your price.

iŠm having trouble finding this one too, so i am training to use 48AU probes.. you are saying that wont be enough either?

mhmmm... There isn' a thing out there that I can't scan it
Me showing up will depend on the isk and the distance from my current location...

Edited by: Dionysus Davinci on 14/07/2005 20:02:18 Use the deep space one, not the 48 AU <_<
Also, filter your overview for cosmic sig only and with a little skill with the scanner you can get an idea where it is.

The deep space probes also require Astrometrics Lvl5, and afaik the standard scanner only has a range of roughly 14au, so I wonŠt see it on the scanner.

Unfortunatly, Dahin is too far away atm, so I still need a helping hand. Anyone out there? As I said, IŠm going to pay for the service.

Ok, I talked to more people in local, and there are quite a few with the same problem as me! Please, if you have Astrometrics Lvl5, contact me, IŠm sure we can arrange something!

Got someone here now with 192au probe skills
Saidar is the name - get here quick!

Thanks Mannakin.
Ok. HereŠs some updated information: I found someone with 192au probes. He scanned the system. He said, the whole system was red on the scanner, meaning everything should be in range. He scanned for cosmics signatures. Result: Nothing.
IŠm slowly getting annoyed. And frustrated. How the hell should you be able to find the complex, if even 192au probes donŠt work? Dahin told me, that heŠd probably have to use deepspace probes, but those would be furbared.
This is a lvl3 mission! Can anyone even be sure, if the complex actually exists?

No matter how big the probe they only can in a "plate" shape. The area may be 192 AU across but it's 1AU deep being scanned. This means that you really need to have an idea of where the gate is so you can point in its general direction on probe release.

YouŠre right, this may be an explanation.
Still doesnŠt solve the problem though.

so you can "point" probes in the direction you want them to scan by just moving in that direction? I have narrowed something own using a 5 degree scan but its at about an 80degree angle up, so your saying just head toward it while releasing probes and it should scan in that direction?

No, scan probes just drop beside your ship.
Do you have narrowed something down in general, or have you found something in barkrik?

the probes do not scan in a wedge.
they scan the full area highlighted in red
however they only scan an area about 1 au above or below the probe plane or system plane.
the item you are looking for is either more than that 1 au above below that plane.
if you have narrowed down that it is above, that helps. A LOT.
There are some sekrit ninja skillz that may be involved in locating. Sorry those are ninja sekrits, I can not share. You get an eve mail when you finish the probe skills to max hehehehe j/k
I have full probe skills, I'll try tonight sometime if I don't get kidnapped at the pub here shortly after work.
got a couple few hours and lots of systems to jump to get there.

A little more information will help me out. Bout outta work and only hazard is the pub and me getting by without being force to drink beer do shots and chase tail.
Have you definitley verified there is something there someplace on scanner searching not probe searching?
You can physically see something or some ship types in scanner when set to default max scanner range someplace in system?
Have you verified that it is indeed UP from system plane or still unsure?
I have to use 2 entirely different ships and setups pending scanning upwards in a system or downwards in a system.
Upwards is much more doable than downwards.
All I'm looking for is cost of probes covered. How much that costs pends on how many used and how far above or below the system plane it is. Gotta check it layer by layer till it's layer is found then I can zero in on it.
I wouldn't even charge or be concerned of cost IF THEY HAD PROBE BPO's OUT.

Basically what everyone has said about the 2 AU thickness of the scanners is dead on. To make matters worse, on a system that maintains objects off the galactic z axis, it gets pretty difficult. If the object is off the galactic plane, and there isn't anything past it to warp too, it's astoundingly difficult/expensive to find it, as basically you have to get lucky with some scan scatters.
Feel free to comm or evemail me in-game, and I'd be glad to explain more.
I also trained Astrometrics to 5.. and once you realize how the deep space probe actually works, you realize what a total waste of time that is. It's really only useful for creating safespots that nobody can get too.

XŠAlor, thanks fo your help and your tips so far. Unfortunatly, I havenŠt found it with the system scanner. IŠve scanned from every celestrial object, but it was nowhere to be found. To be honest, I canŠt even tell for sure, if my Agent isnŠt totally drunk and told me the wrong system

Well, out of curiosity I dragged my ass down there last night and popped an observator deep space probe, and searched for cosmic signatures:
[ 2005.07.23 00:13:34 ] (notify) No scan signatures detected [ 2005.07.23 00:20:36 ] (notify) No scan signatures detected [ 2005.07.23 00:22:22 ] (notify) No scan signatures detected

If there's a 'hidden' complex there, it's either more than 1 AU off the galactic plane (and therefore be basically impossible to find unless you get stupidly lucky, and/or know roughly where it is), or it doesn't exist in that system as a hidden complex. I'm going to guess it's just bad box-text

I've had it scanned too, with all kinds of probes.
Nothing.
And the time for the mission has expired. No more Cosmos for me.

I chatted with one of the volunteer ppl in the help chan via eve-mails about the whole scan probe situation and guess what they said?
Me: So what happens if I scan something with the 48 AU probe that I know should be within the scanner range but doesnt show up because of the 1 AU up/down bug? Them: They I would so you dont know how to use probes correctly.
HAHAHA WTF?? I consider myself pretty damn good using probes but if the things are bugged why dont they just admit it and fix it? They put stuff in space and give us probes but fuxor them up enough so they are useless.

1. Set your Ship Scanner to Max Range and 360 scan degree
2. Set overview settings to only find celestial objects.
3. Fly to all celestial objects (Planets, Gates, etc...) and scan while flying to them and when you get to them. Paying attention on scanner where you are.
4. Eventually you will have it appear on scanner, Then lower the scan angle till you no longer see it. When you no longer see it look to the left a little overplapping your scan angle you just had and scan. If nothing, go back to orginal spot and repeat to the right. IF you get desperate just go 90 degree and start scanning all over to it appears.
5. Now that you have an idea where is about, you can luanch probes to trangulate its position.

well not really knowing what to look for, I only turned up the stuff that is already there and beaconed.
I couldn't see or come accross and so called Amarrian based type of ship or complex.
Again not fully knowing what to look for didn't make it any easier.
If there is one there. there isn't any way to get it to show up on scanner that i could find.
I only spent an hour as it was pretty difficult with 3 beacons/complexes already there.
The planets are also kind of in a line making cross warping of system next to impossible and it is a very very large system and very spread out which makes manual scanning much more difficult.
You will need a very high speed scanner ship to bust this one.
I would file petition to contact a GM directly on the matter to verify that said complex you are looking for is actually implemented and is in that system.
I couldn't locate anything other than what was already there and obvious.
