To OP, they cant. It would totally ruin the exclusivity of wealthy people club feeleing if just anyone could get in fanfest...
Personally im not going. Main reasons: Damn expencive flights and fanfest ticket is not ecaxtly cheap either...
And knowing my personality i would ust stand there feeling the atmosphere and not manage to talk to anyone there the whole damn time. Yes im that intovert as personality. Makeing friends IRL is hard enough, not to mention in eve where everyone is looking chance to rob you blind

Its not that easy, trust me. I used to be member of small non-profit organisation that used to have once a year big event... Just few hundred people... Even thats planning, reserving location, etc.. Had to started right after we completed previous one... thats 10 -12 months beofre the event... And bigger the event, more difficult it gets to find suitable location for such...
5k - 10k people, thats would be tought even in my country, not too many places you can choose that can actually hold it... I can name 2 or 3 out of my head, but theyre all in different cities...
I would have probably come to fanfest this year otherwise, but IRL events pretty much eat all cash reserve and then some... and im not willing to swing my credit dept bigger just to get to iceland :P Maybe next year.... Who knows, next big thing is either EvEonline 15 or 20 years ;)
Maybe CCP should start planning on selling family tickets soon(tm), after all some people have kids, etc...
