I'm thinking of getting a good strong ship for pirating and or bounty hunting work. Oh these 4 ship types which would be the best:
Cruiser Class
Battle Crusier Class
Heavy Assult Cruiser
Interceptor
or should i just get a BS
any advice would be helpful

If you're asking then rule out HACs. Go for interceptor.

Thorax, great for low sec work against agent runners/miners/haulers. I scored more solo kills in my Rax when I was a rate than any other ship.

If you're looking for small prey and fun engagements, go for a thorax or an interceptor. If you want bigger prey, you need a BS or a HAC. And a BS is the cheaper and easier option.

Solo piracy:
Big targets - use a gankagesetup BS. (warpstabs are for cowards ;) fit them if you can but try to avoid it)
Smaller targets - use a thorax or cruiser setup to specificly take on smaller pray. Most likely your opponent will be setup for other duties.
Group piracy:
Interceptor - tackler / scram and keep the pray in place until your backup arrive. Not that fun vs battlecruisers fitted to take on small and fast stuff.
Cruiser - Preferably jammer setups or the smaller-pray hunter.
Battlecruiser - Can take on smaller pray and also be damage backup vs bigger pray.
Battleships - The intimidator and the ship which will dish out the most damage. You should have backup already to keep the pray in place so a long-range battleship is fine.

This depends on alot of things. If you are gate ganking, you need a bs. If you are doing more belt piracy, do not use a bs, unless your idea of fun is never catching anything. If you are operating in .4-.1, use a thorax or an armor plated taranis, claw, or crusader (but it works best on claw). You'll need atleast level 4 skills across the boards to make a profit flying ceptors though, otherwise you'll just lose to many. If you are gonna be in 0.0, avoid flying a bs. The chances of you dying are just too high. If you wanna do 0.0, get buddies. 3-4 guys in ceptors and cruisers can do some deadly stuff. Think 2x ceptors, a rax, and a bb sort of thing.

Well, as you are asking this question you are new to piracy. Gate ganking is a complete different story then "belt" piracy. The interceptor plays a critical role in this area, so i suggest you trying it out; as well as learning how to use the scanner if you already dont. Gotta love those pirates who mindlessly go from belt to belt

BC: they are crap, dont even bother
HAC: deimos, zealot, vaga
BS: blasterthron, raven, geddon, tempest
inty: crow, crusader, ranis

Claw is the best solo belt piracy ceptor, followed by taranis and crusader. Crow is probably the worst (except for raptor and ares).

To Infused: From Parmizan's pirate guide:
K for the scanning part u generally wanna find some1 at a gate or a belt, most likely the belt in this case.
Open up ur scanner and set ur scan range to 10,000,000km. U will find most belts are maximum of this from a planet so will cover u being able to scan a belt effectively.
Next set ur radius to 30 degrees as u want to accurately scan a belt 1 at a time and picking up item from 2 belts isnt handy. To align the scanner on screen for scanning a particular belt use the onscreen camera and position it so ur ship and the belt(upside down triangle) u want to scan are in alignment.
After u have completed this start ur scan and u will get a list of whats in the belt. Set the fliter to show ascending "Type" and it will be easy to c wot ships (player and npc) are in the belt. After that move in and go to work if u find a suitable target. Rinse and repeat this process with all belts to find targets.
Tip: Rule of thumb is miners in low sec use bookmarks for a planet to instadock and can use them from a belt of that planet. So u might want to start at a planet that has lots of belts to scan. Chances are a pilot uses the same belts of a planet to mine, have secure cans and such and cycles through every day.

the scanner guide may be a little out of dat after the new patch: what i do is narrow my prey down by direction using the overview settings, and then once i roughly have them add asteroid belts to overview, and scan what belts they could be at. remove them from overview before you go into combat.

For belt piracy also try a blackbird setup for jamming.
Although rax is just plain fun (stupid long HAC training  )

Are you crazy? I wouldnt call any BS the ultimate pirate ship. Too slooow and easy to catch. Not to mention jam because 'every pirate flies a Raven'.

You try hitting a stabber fitting with an AB orbiting you. They are very fast and can get a BS busy for quite some time.

If you're fitting to counter ships. You will have more chance of an successful victory. So yes, fitting to counter a close range cruiser as the stabber will = win. That doesn't make the ship usless for piracy though. Piracy isn't pvp where you have to focus on real pvp tactics that the opponent might have. Well on the same hand you shouldn't under estimate your opponent. So again why is the stabber good? Because it brings speed, agility, and damage output to the table. Where most cruisers don't...
I use to stand by the Claw as the ultimate piracy ship for belt piracy. Now the Jaguar is my first choice. It's not always about the fastest speed or the best damage output. It's about the stock abilites of the ships and the most utility. Jaguar has good stock tankage, good speed, and 3 mid slots. So would I bring a Claw in a mining op that has some defense? No, drones would maul me. Jaguar on the other hand, be able to tank stock and still complete the task.
