Our corp has bought one of these today. Here is a screenshot in which you can find some info:
We are currently improving the BPO, so if you'd like to know what an improved version would look like, contact us in a few weeks :)
At the moment we're trying to work together with several corporations out in 0.0 to get an outpost built. Securing systems that have rare ores and juicy NPCs in them, mining minerals, hauling moon raws, maintaining POS's and sorting out politics are things we deal with every day. We're still looking for new partners that are interested in joining our little endeavour - send me an EVEmail if you'd like to get in contact.

is the blue print a bpo or a bpc? I see alot of people buying these things for what will probably be a 1 or 2 use item it makes no sense for it to be a bpo.
lets look at the economics here, proabaly 30 billion worth of materials to build the station, plus you need a freighter to haul it out to where its going to be deployed.
This seems like alot of work, I am however interested in seeing some new stations go up in mineral rich areas that players will be able to exploit that are hard to exploit now due to hauling problems.
There are a few systems in Geminate I would like to see some people put up some of these outposts, but I am not going to be spending this type of money myself to do it.

Building an outpost should be a joint venture, not something one person or even one corp does. And yeah, let's hope these outposts make 0.0 more interesting and offer some better comfort :)

Hauling 387m trit is going to be a big pain in the arse, even in an iteron 5 with named expanders your looking at roughly 130 round trips just for the trit.
Im thinking you gotta want one of these really bad to build it.

Thats with one person doing the hauling, what is it with people assuming that these guys are suggesting a one man job here? with teamwork and a good few haulers that can be broken down to about 10-20 trips, even less if they use a freighter to get the stuff into the nearest 0.0 station to their founding site.
Geez.

I agree TDE4-H would be an excelent system, plenty of belts to support construction, rare ore and 2 other rare ore systems within 2 jumps.
L-TOFR would be another excellent spot though this is already 2 jumps from LS-JEP but there is no rares in LS-JEP.
8MG though now 2 jumps from empire is 3 jumps from an empire station and would be a good candidate. Im sure that there are systems similar in most 0.0 regions.
I agree this will take a shedload of co-operation, I am wondering are there any in place yet? has anyone built one yet on tranquility?
I would also think that another good location for one would be in a system that has a conqurable factory. pputting the refinery and factory in the same system, one system that comes to mind would be BZ- down in stain, has Stain put one up yet?
am very interested to see how this goes and how many will be built in game.

Could be interesting to see if a build-to-order outpost construction is a viable business. One mechanism that could work is starting a shell corporation for each outpost, join the alliance, then just have some CEO's alts or so join it once the construction is complete, pass the CEO role and leave. Or alternatively add the builders to the alliance holding corp. Basic concept would be to just provide the construction as a service to alliances.
The big issue would be risk management, how to ensure the builder gets paid. The 30 something billion represents a fair bit of economic risk after all. Not to mention the margins would have to be pretty high before it's worth all the hassle. Any thoughts?

freighters can only carry packaged giant containers. that means no extra cargo room for free. you get an error message about 'plankt generators' not being allowed

Do it the same way you get a house built in RL. Take a part payment for the construction of each component of the outpost when you build the component. The customer holds about 2/3s of the price as a final payment for putting it in place. If they dont pay dont let them have contgrol of the outpost.

Building an outpost is a big job in itself, but the real job is going to be defending it. I wouldnt even consider building it unless you have the military power to back it up :)
An outpost in a nice location is gonna be a BIG target to any griefing pirate corp or alliance.

Unfortunately for would be outpost builders, if the 'host' alliance decide to 'play nasty' then there's not a huge amount you can do about it. Short of fortifying the system to buggery, and inviting another alliance to come and play.
A 'staged' payment project isn't unreasonable - agree 'milestones'. (Platform construction, platform deployment, minerals, trade goods, online, transfer of assets) and agree percentages of the construction that each represents.
That way at each stage, you have a 'good faith' arrangement, that they could just attack, (but they've already paid for most of it) or you could just try and keep (but you're deep in 'their' space) and everyone's happy.

I know this is the wrong place for it, but we have a substantial amount of plutonium (roughly enough for 2 outposts) for sale in The Placid region 2 jumps form 0.0 space.

As I say to people who ask why we are building this outpost. Everyone talks of how hard this game is but only see the game as gaining everything by themselves. If everyone worked together to accomplish a certain goal, the game would be easier in a sense cause your not doing everyhing alone. Trust is the #1 key and I believe our corporation with the joint efforts of our friends and allies will accomplish this endeavor. We must push on and make our time worth the wait and to show our time spent is not in vain.

u are all concerned with building the thing, yes it will take a lot of time and effort, not to mention the isk involved. but havent u thought about the acctualy outpost? i heard it takes at least 4POS working around the clock to keep it running, which means ur going to have to supplie them also (so u could place it deep in 0.0) i dunno wat it cost to run a POS but the cost is going to be very high

Just thought I'd mention that you have to have sovernty over a system to set-up the Outpost, and individual corps will not be alowed to set one up. Only alliances have that option. And at the risk of stating the obvious you need an operating POS to maintain sovernty on a system. And your POS will be vulnerable to take-over if you lose sovernty over the system.
If a single corp is an alliance then they can set one up, however.

Yes ofcourse we have thought about this, and we have already selected a perfect system for the outpost construction. It is near systems with valuable ores and there is also ice to mine (for the fuel of the POS's). But the most important thing is that the system only has a few moons so it doesn't require alot of POS's to have and maintain sovereignity over the system. We have already invested alot into setting up defences for the POS's so that they wont be taken down easily by any alliance/corp seeking to take our outpost over. We have not set up an alliance yet that will build the outpost but this is because we are not sure yet which corps will actually participate in building the outpost and maintaining the POS's for it. We do know that each corp will have to run one POS in our outpost system, so that shouldn't be too much problem to fuel. One corp should easily be able to run one POS. __________________________________________________

Edited by: Vishnej on 25/08/2005 22:06:03 Are you SURE you're safe in terms of territorial claims? If your outpost is already staked out by a major alliance, it's very likely (rather than just possible) that you'll have a few hundred ships and a few Dreads knocking at your door.
And "Near systems with valuable ores" should be "In a system with valuable ores."

well i dont think they will have any probs building it its keeping it that will be the trick cus anyone with half a brain will let someone else do the work and pay bill then take over if of course they are hostile the main reason being because the benifits of doing that are far greater stategicly then just popping it while its being built considering it allows for greater control etc.
