Buy ship skins/decals/etc with aurum (which could then be sold for isk on the markets as well). Essentially the same thing as the clothes already in the NEx store, but for your ships. I have no problems with "non-game affecting" stuff like this in general (and these things have been thrashed out in CSM summits several times). Where it gets a bit iffy is if CCP started cannibalizing regular developer resources into producing "fancy hat" items -- and that is a very fuzzy judgment call. Putting on my fancy businessman's hat, what I would hope CCP would do is some cautious and cheap experiments to determine if there's sufficient demand to warrant investing resources in the project, and if so, expand the relevant departments (or outsource) so they can meet the demand without impairing their ability to improve the game. Or in other words, the people who want to pimp their rides shouldn't subsidize the people who are happy with the factory paint job. Gotta have something to keep the art team busy when they're not making new ships or talking about how much they hate the idea of rebuilding the naglfar's model, right? Sounds like a perfect task.
There are around 800 or so of unreleased ships already with unique designs based of each respective races' manufacturer designs sitting in the client files. Each race looks to have 5 manufacturers that could be for general player use, and the rest for T2, Pirate, NPC, Navy etc. Unless CCP was to go about creating a feature that allowed you to "paint" ships and/or implemented a skill based paint mechanic it would be relatively easy to go about making them available, as long as they didn't have unique attributes of course.
I'd be pretty disappointed if they released them with aurum however, and if they did I'd hope they were the most common out of those released. There are so many different ways they could be released that it would require multiple posts to discuss. Monk and I had a good time debating a bunch of topics on Declarations of War. Like myself and Alekseyev Karrde, we have divergent opinions about a lot of things, but that was less important than the tone of the debate.
Monk impressed me as a candidate who has the skillset to be an effective member of the CSM. Unless he does something totally braindead, he'll be on my recommended ballot -- and higher than some people might imagine.
Preliminary voting hopefully starts tomorrow, let's make sure all the good candidates have an easy time qualifying. Re-elect Trebor to CSM8 GÇó Member of CSM 5-7 GÇó My CSM Blog |

Here's an update on Odyssey, with some more information about the input CSM gave CCP and how it was reflected in the final result.
(cut and pasted for convenience)
2013 - A CSM Odyssey
CCP has just teased the contents of the next expansion, Odyssey, so finally CSM members can start discussing some of the details -- but only some of them, since we can't discuss details that have not already been made public due to the NDA.
So this first post on Odyssey will focus on how much of the CSM's agenda got reflected in the final result. If you've read my previous posts on CSM's involvement in the release planning process, you already know that CSM got an unprecedented opportunity to provide input to the process.
A quick recap: First, all of the various teams at CCP made presentations about things they could contribute to the expansion. Then the teams (and CSM) took all these ingredients and developed recipes for themed expansions. The final theme was a synthesis of the best ideas, tempered by the realities of the development process.
After these presentations, CSM ranked the various ingredients based on how important we thought they were, and how much bang-for-the-buck we thought they provided.
Of the 5 items we ranked 10/10, 3 are addressed in Odyssey. Of the 12 items we ranked 9.0-9.9, at least 6 made it. Of the 8 items we ranked 8.0-8.9, 4 made it. Of the 4 items we ranked 7.0-7.9, 2 made it.
We also labeled 17 features as "big ticket" items. At least 9 of them are in Odyssey.
Finally, we identified 6 "core crucial" elements that most of the recipes incorporated. 4 of them made it into Odyssey in some form.
Odyssey is significantly more aggressive than the last couple of expansions, which IMHO is the right direction. The task of the CSM over the next few months, as a stakeholder for a team working on some of the headline features, is to do everything we can to make the expansion as successful as possible, because I want CCP to take even larger bites from the apple in the future. Wescro2 wrote:What's the difference between 10/10, big ticket and core crucial items/elements/features?
We first ranked everything in terms of bang-for-buck. So the 10/10 items could be big or small, but they were things that we'd absolutely want to see get done.
Then we subranked the big ticket items; these would be features that might be considered headline features of the expansion, that would clearly be a lot of effort.
Finally, we looked at all the various proposals and extracted what most of them had in common. These were potential building blocks that were interdependent.
Basically, we sliced up the information several different ways, so we (and the people who read our report) could better understand the problem.
Quite a few of the members of CSM made our own expansion proposals, to help CCP get some perspective on how players might rank these things. When I compare my proposal to Odyssey, most of what I pitched got included. Pre-Election has begun! Click to endorse Trebor for CSM8 * Candidate thread * CSM Blog |

For someone who's such a hard worker and what people are calling a "great communicator" ... let's look at your blog:
March 24 2012. You post to tell us all the election results, that you made it onto CSM7.
Next post. September 13 2012. You post about the death of Vile Rat.
Next post. December 15 2012. You post to tell us you're back from Iceland.
Starting in January 2013, when you, more or less, decided to run for CSM8, your posting frequency picks up dramatically.
Can we expect you to disappear, again?

Despite the urge to go full ****** and get all ad hominem, I won't.
Some people, Trebor included, are not spurge lords that type drivel on their blogs, forum alts, and badpost in the internet in a pathetic attempt to gain internet spaceship notoriety. While some people run their mouths with keyboard courage, safe in internet anonymity and never have the balls to actually enter the CSM race, Trebor has been diligently working to constantly improve the EVE experience for all players. Old & New, Bear and PvPer alike.
Hmm, perhaps that was more than a little ad hominem, if read myself back correctly.
Here, let me be blunt instead of diplomatic.
Your blog posts are interesting only in the "oh my god, look a train wreck," or perhaps the "look, a paranoid schizophrenic with a puppy and a chainsaw," sense. Your position on nearly any item of import flip flops and jumps around like by-catch on a fishing trawler. You seek notoriety over any solution to issues you speak about, seeking to blame your troubles on others. That perhaps is most aggravating in my eyes. The best endorsement you could do for a candidate is start to bad mouth them because you are such a well known spergelord and self appointed authority that your trashing someone is seen as a positive.
Face it. You are not a WIlliam Randolph Hearst. You are not the tail that wags the dog nor will you ever will have the Mittani's influence in EVE. You are not even EVE famous for leet PvP, only having done that for less than a year.
Pipe down while the men are speaking, boy. |

Question : do you have any other PVP toon ?
Because on Trebor Daehdoow's evekill, you have almost no PVP activity, you're only engaging in one single (excessively from my point of view) risk-limited kind of engagement, and your few ship losses are all badly fitted.
I'm not willing to be harsh or "randomly bashing", but I cannot support someone that is just willing to stay in the CSM without a proper PVP experience. Thanks for your attention. I browsed several pages and didnt notice anybody asking about it. |
