*9 laughs and hits Graygor on the shoulder for joking at such a difficult time for her--she could hardly bear keeping a smile on her face while she was sick with worry.
9 takes a long look at the small collection of items in 7's hangar: evidence of a busy, diligent capsuleer--a part of 7's life that 9 has never seen...
her short laughter turns to a frown, followed by sobbing--she slumps to the floor and the sound of her bawling echoes through the bar. the stress of years of shame, admiration, and concern for 7 flow out of her body.
after a good cry, she whimpers and sniffs and decides to pay more attention to 7, and somehow, some day, repay the kindness 7 has thanklessly shown them all along. EDM? you mean EFM-á| Rain6639 > hey. how bat is the phone right now |

Random opens his eyes as the last of the anesthetic wears off. He rubs his forehead and scalp with his hands, feeling the slight scarring that will soon go away under the effects of the bio grade nanites. Shaking off the grogginess, he sits up and notices the nurse monitoring the vital sign readouts from his bed.
"Am I done here?" he says, speaking slowly.
"You in a hurry egger?" the nurse asks with a grin. "Gotta hot date?"
"As a matter of fact, I do." Random responds with a grin slowly working it's way across his face. "Places to go and people to see."
"Your vitals are fine and the incisions are healing nicely. I dont see any reason you cannot be to your date on time. Your paperwork will be up front." the nurse responded. With a smile and a wink, she walked out of the room.
He began to stretch. He knew that movement would help purge the drugs from his system so he placed his feet on the floor and stood up, holding the bed's rail for support, just in case. He saw his personal possessions on the table near the wall and took a few tentative steps, feeling the strength flow back. He could feel the new implants in his head. He had grown so accustomed to them in his old body, that the lack of them in the new body left him exposed.
His new body. He winced visably and felt his chest. The new clone was without scars. Yiole seemed very pleased to have "marked her territory" and now he would go to face her in a body devoid of her connection. He grabbed at his datapad and opened comms to his docking station.
"Captain Perris, come in." Random said, a hint of impatience tinging his voice.
"Springer here, sir." came the response. The face of his senior Captain filled the view screen of the datapad.
"Where is Perris? What are you doing here?" Random stammered, clearly off guard.
"Long story, sir. I can recant the tale when you are in your pod and we are underway." Springer said, viewing panels that were out of the comms view. "Suffice it to say, sir, that when you hear the news, you'll want best available speed."
"You brought the 'Courier'?" Random asked, slipping into his shirt and stowing his items in the various pockets.
"Of course, sir." Springer said with a smile. "I knew you'd want to move quickly."
"Alright Springer, if this news is THAT damned important that I have to move now and you had the foresite to bring up the 'Courier', I'm doubling your pay." smiled Random, as he grabbed the datapad and quickly moved out of the room.
"Could I get that in writing, sir?" Springer quipped.
The impatience at the front desk took longer than expected and left Random with more questions. He tried to pay the bill for the implant installation out of the Vogon's expense account that Laudenum had established for him but found the account nearly empty. Laudenum only did this when he was out of touch and he feared that he was in for a savage berating when he finally did talk to her. The curious thing was that the account had been drained in the Greater Fool Bar. That meant Laud had tracked him there. Something was wrong.
He bolted into the docking area where the 'Courier' was positioned and saw that a pod was already prepped form him. What the hell had Springer so ready to go. Random wasn't a big fan of surprises but he would play this out until they were safely underway. He stripped quickly and a technician arranged for his garments to be stowed aboard the highly modified Magnate class frigate. He began running pre-flight confirmations as his pod was loaded into the ships cradle. When the connections were made fast, Springer had already made requests for departure. Soon the massively modified engines of his fastest distance ship were heated up and purring. He made calculations for the first gate of the destination and signalled the crew. They entered warp and he felt the mounting tension of impatience and ignorance. He opened a private internal comm to Springer.
"Yes sir, I hope you dont mind but I've sent clearance requests ahead of us already." the Captain said. "You will want best available speed."
"About that," Random said through the comm, "I am in a hurry but you seem to know something that I do not. What are you not telling me, Captain?" The formal use of 'captain' instead of the more familiar use of Springer's name clued the senior officer that this capsuleer was starting to loose his humor.

Indah waited as the scrambled connection switched to another receiver, and she was relieved whe she saw her mother.
- Alo, maman. - Alo Mawi, ma jolie fleur!
Eugerelia looked as usual; a Khanid woman in her 50s, with large eyes and a prominent nose that told her Gallentean heritage. She never had been a heartbreaker, but was naturally attractive in a charismatic way. Her face had the usual color, closer to a suntan gallentean than to a dark Khanid, and everything looked OK. Everything but what Urughan had told Indah.
- How are you doing, maman? - I am fine, how are you? Have you been crying? - Well, yes, I... - Oh Mawi, didn't you cried for me? It's not worth it! - But... - And how are you doing? Do you fly ships? - Well, I am docked most of the time now... i am running a bar... well, Ishtanchuk set up a bar and didn't bother to stay to open it so I opened it and i am managing it... - A bar? What kind of bar? - A capsuleers' bar. - Oh, so it's capsuleer matters still. - Of course, I am a capsuleer, what else...? - But you're still my baby? - Yes, this is my born body. - Don't think I wouldn't notice, Mawi. I've told you many times to take care, lest you end like Ishtanchuk. She used to be such a nice girl when she was younger... - Please, enough, maman... I am worried, Ish sent me a message and Urughan told me about you seeing the doctors. What is going on? - Nothing, really. Please tell, Mawi, do you have a... boyfriend? - No, maman, i don't. But please, what's up with the doctors? Are you ill? - Oh, the doctors. They say i have that thing, comme il s'apelle? Mauv... eh... Malignant tumourgenic activity. - Malignant tumours? You mean, cancer? - I know it sends terribly stupid. i told the doctors that the biannual maintenace checks should adress that. Nobody has cancer, the checks just wipe them before they can grow. - But then how you...? - Oh, sure something was broken on my last check. But it's not serious, the doctors will do their medicine and will clean me up. - That's what the biannual checks should had done already. - Doesn't matters, really. I am OK, feeling fine and doctors couldn't say anything when i asked what was wrong with me, exactly where was the harm. They couldn't just point their fingers and say: "here, here is the harm". It's just some statistic stuff. - But you're looking it? Don't you have an appointment? - Well, tomorrow I have it, but make no sense as i already had an appointment later next month. They make it sound so terrible when it's just a silly medicine that hasn't worked the first time... - But... - No buts, Mawi. Stop worrying yourself about nothing. Let's talk about somehting else now...
The talk continued for a while, as Indah couldn't decide wether her mother was lieing or don't. Exausted by the strong emotions earlier that day, Indah just wanted to agree to whatever Eugerelia said. The talk decayed after a while and Indah said good by to her mother, after making her to promise to tell Indah what the doctors said next day.

(continued)
Indah then turned to Yiole, who had been watching over her own pad as the conversation developed in a mix of Khanid and Gallentean. From the bits in Gallentean, Yiole had figured that there was some health issue involved.
- ...but, she claims ti's nothing serious, just a malfunction of her latest check -finished saying Indah, after summarizing the conversation to Yiole. - Well, that sounds almost good, sin't? - Don't know... I've alwasy been unable to tell whem my mother is lieing. I can't help to wonder in circles and never reach a conclussion... an anyway, why would Ishtan ring an alarm without a reason? - Houm... isn't that main block active? -said yiole, pointing the pad - Huh? - The scrambler, doesn't looks like the line is still on and switching?
Indah looked at the pad and saw that there was an incoming communication from the scrambler. She accepted it and saw her father's face.
- Oh dad! I didn't knew you were at home! - I am not, indah. They just relayed the comm to me. It was me who talked to your cousin. - Oh... - I'm sure that you mother has tried to defuse it, but it may be very serious. The doctors want to check her ASAP as they suspect it could be a case of Gallentean... err... Gallentean RGD 503. - What?! - I didn't know what it meant neither, but Ish understood it at the moment. It's a kind of recurrring genetic disease caused by some malfunction in genes that can't be repaired through the biannual checks... It's one of the deeply entrenched genetical damages caused by the isolation years... and the 503 it's a nasty one. Your mother could be developing cancer... several cancers at once. If it IS RGDS 503, which the doctors want to check. Tomorrow. That's what I told to Ish. - So Ish warned me... but, how could she learn it so fast? - Well, she was here until just yesterday. - There at home!? And what was she doing there? - Well, something... you know how she is... she just asked us to borrow one of the cottages at Feringly Cross, and then, you know how this goes. There are no secrets, so it transpired quickly that one or more men were implied, but no other woman than Ishtanchuck. Not a surprise, but of all places... maybe were some local folks. She's like a loose cannon sometimes, but at leat she was of use and could warn you, as Eugerelia didn't wanted anyone of us to bother you. You know how she can be so detemined... Ish saved us a trouble. - So it could be a mortal disease, then? - I won't be, sure. The doctors said at least three other things that could cause the same readings. Tomorrow we'll know...
Indah closed the transmisison, totally focused on her thoughts. Yiole had been able to follow the conversation as both Indah and her father had used Standard language, and she pat on Indah's shoulder, saying:
- Well, maybe it is serious... but maybe isn't. There is no point to worry too much on the issue until we know better, tomorrow. - Oh... i wonder... didn't dad look too calm? Like he was...? - You ask me? i don't know your relatives... - No, no, just wondering... he was too calm. I think he's as cared as myself... more if he has been reading god knows what about that disease... how did he said...? - Gallentean RGD 503. I think i heard that sometime. - Can... could you...? - Yes? - I need some... time... - Oh, of course. I'm going down to check those security officers, OK? - Thank you... I may... - Don't overthink it, sweetie. Really.
Yiole left Indah's appartment and went downstairs. The bar was slowly returning to normality, but Yiole wasn't following her own advice and was totally immersed in thoughts about the troubles that her firend was facing. She was so oblivious that it took a while until she identified the familiar face in the crowd, closing her and raising her in his arms like if she was weightless.
- Random! -shouted Yiole in joy, dropping her face against hims and kissing him feverishly... The Greater Fool Bar-áis now open for business, 24/7. Come and have drinks and fun somewhere between RL and New Eden!-áIngame chat channel: The Greater Fool Bar |

the rains bought me in the slave bazaar some months back. it was 7. I've known them for quite a while longer than that. soon after I graduated from Pator Tech School, I met... well, I call her Rain, too. I guess you could call her the original Rain. I see her about every day.
the rains you know inherited those memories of me. I'm still not as comfortable around them as they are with me.
It's quite the experience to see the rains acting out their lives--each with some part of the ... original. I don't think of them as copies; they're amazing in their own right--and much more focused.
7 just sent me a message to say she's ok. I should show this to the girls--
