Here are a few confessions.
I've been playing eve for about 6 months. I find it really captivating, but i'm interested most in pvp. I got a taranis thinking that i'd be able to kill at least a few people. I can't find anyone weaker than me! I feel like i'd have to play for like another 2 years before I could lord it over anyone, 'own', or 'pwn' so to speak. I got killed yet again tonight, I will spare you the details. To put it bluntly, I'm crap. Is there any fun in the world of eve for someone who is crap? I'll be a punch bag, won't I? Should I just start mining or something? I get more and more skills, yet I'm still crap and it seems whatever setup I use, my enemies always end up making me look like a pansy. Spare me your pity.. I just felt like confessing this..
Yours truly, An ex eve-online player :'(

Find a pvp corp that can take you under it's wing. You'd be surprised just how many Alliances, pirates, pk'ers, mercs will all be willing to take you in.
Oh and, watch alot of eve vids. ------------------------------

Get in a corp that does PvP, learn good ship setups etc. (At 6 months old you are about on par with a 2 year old player in an inty)
Spar with corp mates till you learn your limits.
You can earn enough ISK to buy an inty a day quite easily. Buy a job lot and set em up and have some fun.

Tell you what, losing an interceptor, especially a taranis.. is about the easiest thing that can happen to you. I probably go through five a month, and probably dozens since the first one I got over a year ago.
Its not a huge deal, but it will drain your isk pretty fast if you don't have a lot. Interceptors are paper thin, and you're getting into web/scramble range in yours. A hard sneeze will send you to structure. Of course people can be smartasses and fit plates, but in the end you're a very expensive, very fragile paper bag.
My advice.. if you suck, and are geniunely looking to get better and to "pwn", I suggest you use a Thorax instead. Put a 1600 plate on it, some heavy drones, mwd, web, disruptor, and either light neutrons or 150mm then go screw with someone.
If you die, you lose maybe 3-4mil worth of junk. Remember, insurance covers tech 1, it doesn't cover tech 2. On the other hand, anything you kill will get majorly pranked. _____________________________________ Perpetually driven, your end is our beginning.

Most experienced PvPers I know lose ships every day, or at least nearly, at least those who fight a lot.
But its more skill than skill points.

Get in a PVP corp. You wont be killing people solo until you get a lot of experience. But its easy to be valuable in a gang.

In a Taranis you should be able to kill quite a few people
Get into a corporation that really knows the "PvP ropes" and you'll be killing loads of stuff.

Go try wow, it'll be good for about a month. Afterwards you may be ready to come back to EVE.
Oh, and make sure you are training while you're gone.

skills and time in game mean nothing unless you have practice on using them
Elements of good pvper:
1)ship setup 2)the right ship for the job (no one ship will take you to the top) 3)manuevering and flying (sounds simple but there are a lot of things you can do wrong, i.e. orbit vs. straight on) 4)good corp and gangmates (ships in eve are meant to be flown (mostly) with other ships to compliment) 5)skills beyond the "minimum" required to use module (i.e. tech II laser can be used at beam spec 1 but you get alot better results when you train to 4 and 5) 6)fly what you can replace 7)scrimmage,practice, and try try again. its frustrating as hell at first but once you get better you really enjoy it more. First cherry-pop kill 4tw! 8)train your friends too, it doesn't help you if you got "omg what do i do" pilots flying with you
theres more but thats a good start ___________________________

As many have said before me, join a good corp that will show you the ropes. When i was 6 months old i was flying around in my caracal fighting wars, i wasnt "teh pwn" so i lost alot of ships but it was so much fun since i was flying around with fun people doing what i liked. So give eve another shot.

ive been really encouraged by you all. i have been taken in by a group of good pvpers but i dont want to burden them with all my death killmails. tbh, i do research ship setups etc and i got on pretty well in single player missions with the thorax. i have therefore decided to setup my thorax like this:
High: 5xtI light neutrons (i can use tII, but i'll only lose them anyway and they are cheaper) Mid: 1xweb 1xscrambler 1xmwd Low: 1x1600mm plate 1xmed armor repairer 3xdamage mods
should i swap the damage mods for cap relays? still a bit confused on the lowslots. dont wanna get nossed again, that sucked, i died from a vexor it totally owned my taranis :'(
cheers for all the support. i have uncancelled my cancellation :)

Best bet, blow up noobships. Velators, shuttles, Iteron I's in 0.4 space so you can strike and warp quickly.

Dont fit damage mods - fit hardners, active if you can. Not sure how to make the fitting work (dont fly Gallente) but it should fit with light neutrons.
The thorax's biggest asset is the 8 heavy drones it can carry. If you don't have the skills then train them now! It's probably about 10 days to be able to run 8 heavies.
What somebody else said is so true. Learn to pick your fights. Sometimes its ok to run away.
Good luck

Cheers Deja. Think I'll try the hardeners I have the skills to fit them (had them on my megathron, lost it on a lvl3 mission being careless) I seriously pick the worst fights. I'm itching for my .............first kill... so i go for anyone

yeah they were too easy in a mega, i just happened to push it too far with some drones and couldnt warp out in time.
ok - ive fitted em, thermic and kinetic hardeners now. i have elec+engin lvl5 so i managed to just about fit all that on.
problem is, dont have a very fast cap recharge now. should i drop the web (as i wont bother taking down small fast things, i just wanna kills cruisers/haulers) and go for a cap battery or recharger? worried about keeping all that stuff going

Edited by: Wrayeth on 07/08/2005 05:08:59 What the guy who posted right before me said. I've been trying to blow up one particular RKK member for the last couple of days, now, but he keeps running. (May have something to do with the fact that his ishtar goes halfway into armor from one volley of my 1400's, but...)
Hang in there, man. It'll get better. Just get yourself in tight with a good PvP corp who can teach you the ropes - there's always more to learn, and always new tactics being devised as new equipment comes out. Who knows? Perhaps you'll be one of the ones to do so. -Wrayeth |
