Before Retribution was released there was a ccp fella(CCP WhiteNoiseTrash) working on audio, he also announced he'll make a blog sometime. It's almost been 3 months https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2114559#post2114559
any update? Oh, and if I may, just some critique on the audio, they sound way too similar from eachother in the same class, imo. Not enough distinction between for example Focused Medium Pulse Laser & Focused Medium Beam Laser, etc.

Spoke with CCP WhiteNoiseTrash the other day in danish chat. Atm he is working on the new Hybrid sounds and something about station sounds. But he said most things would be given a overhaul but it would take A LOT of time.
Also. You devs should visit us players more often in chat channels. Public image and all. http://z0r.de/3808

The dev blog is coming. Sorry, I was out of the office for a while between november and february. (She is now three months old and I love her)
So the Dev Blog has been put on hold, but I will get right back to it now. The Dust Dev Blog is a different thing about how audio works in general and specifically on DUST 514, I'll be focusing on EVE and not just implementation but also a bit about how the sounds are actually made and the thoughts behind them.
cheers? yes, lets cheer. More cheer.. Cherry. Bj++rn Jacobsen | Audio Designer | EVE Online, CCP Games | Anything sound related, ask away. |

Congrats, WhiteNoiseTrash!
And thanks for the work on sounds, the amount of legible information delivered via audio has improved a lot in the recent expansion. And medium blasters finally sound great <3
Looking very much forward to the dev blog.
(Drone sounds are incredibly quiet, and their visual effects are also too muted, without brackets they are like ninjas in space, silent and invisible.)

Good to see the audio getting some new love...
Is there a plan to look into the often reported sound cutting in and out?
I've had it for a long while, including XP and 2 installs of Win-7 32-bit as I upgraded my machine but always with with a Creative SB X-Fi card.
In my case, seemingly randomly there's a 'pop' and the sound is disabled, then a minute or so later, 'pop' and it's back.
I've seen others report this over the years as well as some other 'scratching' sound
Cheers

that sounds weird. Any game can of course have fallouts, especially if you are jumping in and out of clients or other programs (I'm not saying that you do so) - but the client should not act like this, we have a pipeline system which doesn't switch itself off just like that, so I can't exlain what you are experiencing.
but we are giving the audio totally new love. there is a lot to clean up and a lot of new stuff to do, so not everything comes at one time unfortunately. I would have liked a complete overhaul in one night, but I simply cannot get that :) Bj++rn Jacobsen | Audio Designer | EVE Online, CCP Games | Anything sound related, ask away. |

Regarding this pop i get it often, and ive pinned down the exact cause,
Will try and replicate it again for a Bug Report and put number in here later. But in brief
if i target someone, who then docks up while i have them locked the issue occurs. Had this a number of times during recent war. I get a pop sound when i zoom in and lose all sound, then zoom back out and it returns, fix is to disable and renable audio

They what? so you say that it's impractical that they are louder when zoomed in and less loud and have a small filter on when you are zoomed out?
Depends on how far you are zoomed out, but you can almost zoom out to maximum and you will still hear them in the distance.

if I had an audio easter wish, it would be that it wasn't all so distracting. which is why I never play with it turned on. Maxim 34: If you're leaving scorch-marks, you need a bigger gun. |
