Hi guys, After a lot of mining so i can get my first battleship, after using typhoon fleet issue and was disappointed I bought maelstrom as all of you people suggested.I read that this ship is built for active tanking.I'm doing terrible in making it good since my capacitor runs out very very fast .Should I buy large capacitor control circuit or something else? The thing is to use or not to use microwarpdrives for pve and maybe later for pvp.Any help or advice should be appreciated so I can enjoy this ship. |

hm... unless You're running L4 missions I'd suggest You use a battlecruiser (for L3 missions) or even a normal cruiser for everything below L3.
If You actually run L4 missions, the standard cap charges are cheap enough, they won't kill Your wallet.
Other than that, watch Your mission triggers, You'll need far less tank if You don't aggro the whole pocket at once (once You use the Golem it won't matter tho). There's nothing a million chinese guys can't do cheaper. |

You should only pulse your shield booster, and use an X-L one. If your cap skills and shield compensation isn't very high train them up for more cap recharge/less cap per cycle. I used to run with an AB on my Maelstrom because battleships are so slow, but if you want to get a MWD you will get a cap penalty unless you buy the best deadspace versions which cost a bit. I ran with 3 CCC's on my Mael, but that was only because I was lazy and permaran a Republic Fleet Afterburner (less cap use & more speed than T2). I never ran with a cap booster as I cba to refill my stocks, and I'd rather fit an AB.
You will definately earn back the cap boosters you spend isk on, and there will be some as loot in some wrecks as well. I assume you are running level 4 missions in it? Running 1-3 in battleships is rather subpar and would be better accomplished in smaller ships. |

Dont forget cap booster allows you to fit more gank which allows you to kill stuff faster which means you'll need to tank less for a shorter time :) |

Last time I set-up a new mission station (setting up close to the Alliance I was in at the time's hub) I set up a buy order in the appropriate station while I was assembling ships, ammo and so forth. The order was for (IIRC) four thousand Cap Booster 800s and I certainly wasn't offering a brilliant price - it was a while ago so I can't say for certain but I think I was bidding around 2k/unit, eight million ISK for the complete order. Eight million shouldn't break the bank if you're flying a Mael', and even on the worst missions (L4s at least), with fairly poor negotiation skills shouldn't take more than a day or so to cover - and you won't get through 4k charges in a day.
The order was approximately 95% filled by the time I launched my first mission for the agent a couple of days later and I've probably still got over 3k in that station.
Considering how many rounds of EMP, Phased Plasma and Fusion L I got through during my stay there I would suggest that the boosters were one of my lowest expenses |

That's probably closer to an "endgame" fit - but stepping down the shield booster, the AB, and the gyros to T2 (or maybe a M4 shield booster in case of fitting issues) should hopefully give the OP something to start with, upgrading the booster and gyros to faction as he/she earns the ISK to invest.
(The Dread Guristas booster is a nice first faction mod; performance equal to the Caldari Navy XLSB, at a relative sixty-percent discount.)
The Maelstrom's not designed to go fast, really; the prop mod (AB or MWD) should be thought of as something to fit on a situational basis, only when you know you've got long subwarp travel stretches ahead of you, much like the hardeners should be swapped depending on the mission. If you're willing to sacrifice speed, you can easily field a setup that will tank over a thousand DPS in bursts, which should be long enough for you to clear some DPS off the field and let your cap recover. Only pulse the booster on/off when you 're getting hurt. Running it flat out will drain your cap in no time, as you've found. You can use CCC rigs as a crutch if your other skills are low. Lose the MWD. It's blooming your sig radius, making you easier to hit, and it's taking a chunk out of your capacitor in order to fit. Which is also why you're running dry so fast. Fit an AB if you know there's gates to slow boat to, but drop the MWD and embrace the fact that you're flying a bathtub.

I don't consider the amount of pimpage that excessive or misplaced, if that's what you are referring to. T2 should work OK, of course.

Not bad, but the Adaptive Invulnerability fields use more cap than the resist specific shield hardeners. I fit hardeners specific to the mission on my missioning alt's Maelstrom |

Works well enough. A pig on cap sometimes in heavier missions, but heavy on tank and gank, and VERY cost-effective. No deadspace or faction mods here. If you're struggling with lv4s, bring a friend. |

Another vote here for equipping a cap booster.
You probably wont need it using arties however it is nice to have while you learn how to run the lvl 4's. Keep in mind many missions will drop you right in the middle of or close to the rats. This can escalate from bad to downright scary while being scrammed/webbed. This is where the cap booster shines.. saving you from your early mistakes.
*I still throw on the cap booster when I do the faction epic questline. It's saved my ship many times.
This leads to drones. Do be able to fly t2 lights so you can kill the scramblers and gtfo asap.
Once you learn the missions (or read the mission-reports before starting them), and get a bit more skillpoints into it you can refit your Mael in a way that better suits your needs.

For the love of God use 1400mm Artys The 'scout' variant is the highest DPS/Alpha, build your fitting around the guns, you will be able to 1 shot cruisers at 90km.
Cap rechargers in the mids and Large CCC rigs will help, get an Pith Large shield booster and try to get it cap stable.
Dont worry about prop mods for now, get it cap stable and keep warping in at 100km. As soon as they are in range turn about and start moving in the opposite direction to keep them in your optimal for longer.
I can hammer Forsaken hubs with minimal SP.

While this fit is somewhat pimped you can downgrade the booster to a T2 with proper fitting skills. Heck, you can downgrade about everything on it and it will still run well, but this is somewhat what I would aim the skilling for. Put the T2 guns last in your skillqueue, as getting T2 tank is more important in my opinion. |
