Being webbed doesn't effect your ability to align and warp.
yes. it. does. and good luck ever getting into jump range of a stargate.

if you think making can flagable is expolitable...imagine having webbers as a non hostile act. u would have childish..people..sitting around webbing everyone they can just to be richards (use the short fomr of the name pls) making webbing a non hostile act would be the biggest mistake ccp could do. _____

I'm looking forward to the day there is an avenue to fight back against ore thieves. As for the ore thief showing up in a BS, or going back and getting a BS after his haulers been exploded.. Fair enough. He has as much right to defend himself, as I do to shoot at him.. If I loose, its my own damn fault :)

OK it's ideas like these that make me wonder if those working at CCP want EVE to die. Cause they certainly seem to at times.
This is an online game and as such requires a constant influx of new players. Flagging an ore thief for taking something from a jet can only makes it more enjoyable for the theif and more annoying to the miner. Last time I checked miner I's don't do much damage to ships. So that noob who has 10k isk in his wallet gets his ore stolen. He is likely flying something like a Vigil. He at best will have a single launcher to defend himself. The rest will be mining lasers. So that token launcher isn't a threat to even a beginning ore thief. And most likely the thief will be loaded for battle and simply shread the noob and his vigil. Or the brilliant idea of scattering cans outside of noob station and frying the noobs who check the cans? Or doing it at gates?
How many noobs will say this game sucks and quit? And before the obvious idiots speak up and say good go and don't let the door hit ya in the b*** on your way out remember if the number of people joining the game dwindles far enough the game will get less backing and CCP will go to another game thinking this one has run it's course. CCP is a business and as they have repeatedly proven they are in it to make money not make anyone happy. Right now they have a unique game, but making early life in the game too frustating leads to only two possible ends. Either massive nerfing which drives off everyone but the most loyal which won't keep the game afloat. Or a slow death from player starvation. Either way EVE and the current players lose.
Come on DEV's think before you act. I agree ore thieves need some kind of risk but making it easier to grief noobs is not the way to do it. Ore thieving adds some reason for high sec miners to something other then watch the tv while mining. So I am for them staying, but they need the favor returned. How about making it just jet cans and not loot cans that get the flagging and change the default symbol and/or text color for jet cans so noobs will know right off the difference and put a piece in the tutorial explaining this to them.
Thus ore thieving can continue and on the rare chance that noob mining is actually an alt working as bait and is ganged with a couple fighters just a warp away the ore thief gets a surprise. I was thinking also make stealing from a jet can an act of aggression and thus the thief can't dock of 15 minutes, but that would basically put them out of business and thus isn't good.
Not sure what the exact right cure is, but setting up noobs to be griefed so easily is just a very bad business decision.

Well, buy/sell orders used to be free right? Why not do something similar here - make public jet cans inaccessible without a skill, preferably one that has industry V as a pre-req so noobs know whats what by the time they get it and ore thieves have to sacrifice some points for it. Make gang cans work as normal.

What happens when you kill a rat or player, will you need industry V to reap the spoils?

Make loot cans different from jet cans. Instead of both being cargo containers.

Don't be a dufus. I'm obviously not talking about your own cans - clearly mentioned gang cans being considered as well.

Don't be a dufus. Your obviusly using a expolite called jet can mining that was not inteded by the deves then you yell omg devs forgat took meh ore spoliting!!!!!. Its called the only reason devs havent taken it out is becuse players by ore theifing have naturaly balced it. If you nooblets dont want people taking ore stop exploting by jet can mining. And for the love of god stop posting these threads they get posted like 2x a week since the being of eve no the devs wont fix it. They would have a long time ago if they wanted to.

I don't mine.
Industry 5 makes sense because it is a req for transports, which if there is any combat involved from flagging is gonna be needed. It also keeps people from using 2 day old alts to fool with people. It also ensures noobs will know wtf before looting a stranger's can, as they have to get a skill for it and it will take a coupla weeks of going straight to it. It also enforces the "white collar crime" idea of ore thieving.

1. Firstname Lastname is a well known troll. Look at his other threads, and at the message I responded to chief.
2. Contradiction in terms, my reply was to Firstname, but yet you responded to me. Waste of breath here.
3. That isn't an argument, but you know that. They said the same thing about buy/sell orders, but I kinda doubt you were providing subtantive debate then either.
Anyway, think on it and you'll see my suggestions give the thieves legitimacy and solve several problems in one bang. Not sure wtf yours do.

Edited by: Dreamdancer on 19/08/2005 17:19:29 OK jet can mining as a sploit has already been covered. It isn't or CCP would remove it. Like every other sploit.
That out of the way read the first post before posting and whining about another jet can thread. This isn't whether jet cans are ok or not. This isn't about whether ore thieves should be banned from the game and then hunted down and neutered in real life. This is about the fix you said they aren't gonna do they are talking about doing. Pay attention and read before screaming. Post if you have something constructive to add. Otherwise a troll is what you are.

Edited by: Malx on 19/08/2005 22:45:16 There is already a system implemented into the game to prevent people from getting their ore stolen from them. It's called mining with an indy or a barge, and when your cargo is full, you head to the nearest station and sell. Rinse and Repeat. What other safety measure does a miner in .9 or 1.0 space, with no risk, need?
The system is already there. Open your eyes, expand your brain, and realize that when you get ore stolen from you because you mined into an unsecure container, YOU are the idiot and YOU alone are the one at fault. Not CCP, not the ore thief.
Ore thiefs help keep the economy from exploding. An exploding messed up economy ruins the game quicker than people getting their ore stolen from them. Without the thieves, people can mine all day with no risk, creating tons of money that floods the economy. Mine the way mining was intended, the thieves will quickly dwindle. Whine and whine till you have your way, and the game quickly dwindles.

does the term efficiency mean anything to you? fill a indy with 1 miner 2 (10m3) takes 2 hours, fillinf a med barge takes 3 mins, jumping back and forth is inefficient

ore theives hide behind concord..that and that only is what people hop gets changed.

ore thieves stop the economy exploding? how? do they eat the ore they steal? it still ends up on the market, its just the theif makes the money instead of the guy who actualy did the work! and the threat of theft dosent stop people mining in jet can, its just the risk people run (see high sec miners do run risk unlike ore theifs) so ore theft dosent reduce the amount of ore mined either...so how does it help the economy? _____

People realize that they can't mine tons and tons of ore into an unsecured container, becuase of the risk of theft. So they begin to mine the correct way. They learn their lesson. Mining amounts reduce. The economy is saved.

Edited by: Sarleena on 21/08/2005 22:31:20 Jet can mining IS an exploit. CCP has stated as much before, and also stated that they were unable to come up with a solution at that time.
Jet Can mining is not essential at all. Even if you run a team of 4 Covetor mining barges, each running 3 strip miner 2s with tech 2 crystals, one full cycle, 3396m3 of ore, can fit into a single Giant Secure Cargo Canister. All you need is 2 or 3 dedicated haulers, and stagger the barges so that one barge finishes a cycle every 45 seconds. That way you can cycle the haulers through a rotation, each heading back to the station when they fill up, and there's one there to take over removing ore from the can, while the third makes his way back to the belt. A little bit of teamwork is all it takes.
Yes, that's right, you can handle ALL the ore 4 large barges bring in with only one can.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the oth |

So, you're in Jita, between wars, a bit bored. Ask in local 1v1. You both go to a belt, you drop a can with a bit of Veld in it. He steals Veld. Commence battle.

Flagging free target would be really cool.
- Less orethieves - More jetminers
So more opportunities but also more risk. Not the end of oretheft though since most miners are totally clueless when it comes to actually catching people.

I like a lot this idea, even if its just part of a solution, it gives CCP an opertunity to add some industrial skills and it creates/developes a part of the game that is well known, but hasnt had much development.
For Instance, they could make a rank 2 skill that allows access to other peoples jet-cans, and add a rank 5 skill that dimishes the flagged time/concord response.
Therefore everybody would win, industrial peeps would be able to help each other as they normally do and have protection against ore theives. Pirates, who have specialist skills in this area, would be able to continue to ore-theft. Those pirates would have dedicated full time to their appropiate skills would be able to do so at practically "before nerf" levels.
The other part of the solution would, i suppose, make flagged pirates unable to fire at the contested industrial peep above 0.4 space, under any circumstances.
Therefore, CCP have a safe 1.0-0.5 space for miners outwith the pirates with specialist skills to go and pirate. Isnt this a viable solution to all the problems?
p.s. yeah i know ccp are complete f00bs who wouldnt look for logically well thought about ideas, but its my 2 cents
