It is a tad concerning, but I can see where they are coming from.
On a related note, I think podkills could use a blood splatter, and the biomass pic could use a few exit wounds. ----

not to be elitist but I think very few people <16 would be able to grasp the complexity of EVE. It would just seem boring to them with all the FPSes and other "instant gratification" games.

They're banning juviniles from plays mmolgs where PVP is the only way to advance your character.
Which means no planetside for them. And I think that's about it.

Dunno what the point of this post is. The goverment in China spends so much time trying to impose it's power on it's people that I can't understand why any minister in China would be worried about people playing violent computer games.
I call running over students with tanks pretty violent; dunno about you? Does my bum look big in this cape? |

"Minors should not be allowed to play online games that have PK content, that allow players to increase the power of their own online game characters by killing other players," Liu Shifa, head of the Ministry Of Culture's Internet Culture Division, which drafts policies governing the online gaming market, told Interfax. "Online games that have PK content usually also contain acts of violence and lead to players spending too much time trying to increase the power of their characters. They are harmful to young people."
Looting cans from other players ships may come under this...Lets face it tehy are not known for a sense of restraint, the chinse government that is...

On another note... anyone who thinks you can solve societie's problems by opressing the people with stupid regulations and laws just shows a distinct lack of intelligence and common sense.

It would all depend on how they interpet advance, bountie gives you ISK, War dec to put a rival out of your area of opeations, claiming 0.0 areas etc.
If they ever(heres hoping not) get a CCP ran killboard that could meet the requirements of ranks...Etc

That's gotta be the most ludicrous thing I've ever heard - especially as MMORPG violence is pretty damned tame compared with such games as Unreal Tournament 2004, Doom 3, and their like. I know Unreal Tournament actually has a "gore" setting that you can increase or decrease (oddly enough, mine's set to maximum atm ).
Anyway, the sad thing is that I see the U.S. headed in the same direction, with more and more unnecessary laws passed each day. -Wrayeth

For those that missed some of it:
Quote: Even the famously simplistic and child-friendly Yohoho! Puzzle Pirates is a no-no, involving Tetris-style duel sword-fighting in which it is possible to win money and items from the loser.
In otherwords - you destroy a ship, then loot its can. You have 'improved' your in game self. Thats a no-no with the new law.
Quote: Eve Online and Guild Wars might fare worse as PvP makes up large parts of the core gameplay, and itĘs questionable whether what was left could stand alone as a game at all. Planetside would vanish altogether.
(refers to China)
Ouch... whatever you think of it; and playing eve-online you probably do think it's kinda dumb. The core point is that with "20 million Chinese online gamers" and a "billion dollars" market - it will alter the way MMOG makers approach the PvP market. In otherwords we PvP'ers ain't gonna get the fun we want.

I have to say, while I understand the intent to protect the innocence of children, this is the wrong way to go about it. I realize I'm not a even a blip on your radar and that all I'll ever be is an very small obstacle to be avoided or, more often, smashed into little bits. |

"In other news today, the Republic of China invaded Iceland to destroy the evil threat of PVP on the internet. The invasion was going smoothly, until thousands of Pod pilots suddenly expressed their outrage at the downtime such an invasion would cause, and immediately wtfpwned all chinese troops in the small country. A chinese soldier was questioned shortly before his demise, stating "they were all over us, hitting us with plushyprophs, and screaming "l33t is CCP, go home or we WTFPWN joo."
In other news, WOW creators went into hiding, and have now expressed a desire to move to Iceland.

Which planet are you on? China already has more internet users than the USA, and will before long have more users than the USA, Europe, and Japan combined. It's a HUUUUUGE part of that market, and indeed a huge part of the ENTIRE games market.

Thank god i live in Portugal, our politicians have enough trouble with economy eheh
But seriously dude, i am 14 years old, i have played eve for 1 year or a year and half, i have 17mill SP in my main character, i know more about eve than most of my corp m8s, in general. I dont smacktalk. I dont go mad when i die, if anything, i become really sad and think about canceling my account , in any case, EVE does not effect my way of thinking or acting in RL, these laws are soo stupid, they only help 0.001% of the kids and unecesserely **** up the rest... Makes no sense to me
PS: I will flame next person agreeing with this law.

This is clearly a bit of a stupid law. As pointed out the violence in MMOs is cartoonish.
By far a much greater problem is smacktalk which teaches you to insult ppl with no consequence. This can get extremely vicious and personal over the most minor thing.
However smacktalk applies to all multiplayer games. It also comes from the competative (not the 'violent') aspect of gaming. This can be seen fom the extreme behaviour and 'smacktalk' football fans engage in.
In short if you are worried about MMOs effecting minors you should also ban football :)

Some groups have tried to ban Tom and Jerry for exactly that reason, y'know.

Case in point. I have introduced a few young people to the game in teh last few weeks.. so far only one has enjoyed it.. the rest got stumped when they could not IMMEDATLY kill someone/thing. They couldnt be bothered the 15min to do the most basic tutorial on the flying of the ship. and i had to teach them myself.
Also another immdeatly tried to engage the nearest player he could find in his ibis because he didnt heed any warning that killing in a safe zone would get you whacked.. so a roasted ibis later he learned.. then left. :) Its not being nasty saying that some of the younger crew would not get the intensity, let alone some of the basics of the game. its the truth.. either that or i have some very stupid friends! :)
If ive offended anyone, im sorry im just pointing out what ive experienced trying to recruit some young ones into the game so far.. and I have had the opposite effect from the 2-3 older crew i managed to get into the game. one has settled down and bought a 1 month account as well! :)
This is a more, adult oriented game that most other MMORPGs i have seen so far.. no other game has had the depth this game has managed to achive.. thus why it has managed to stump some of the younger generation.

I still dont agree its the young ones that dont like to play eve, its most people! Just like a kid will say No because he cant do **** right away, a young adult will say he doesnt have time and an older person will say he doesnt like computer games. But hey, this is just my opinion.
