As much as I hate most of the top-5 this and that threads, I think this might be an interesting topic.
Who do you think are the people who can affect things in EvE in a larger scale? They might be alliance/big corp leaders, rich geezers who can take over markets or hire every mercenary out there, ruthless back-stabbers or thieves, or even forum slappers who people and devs listen to.
If you would want something done, who would you turn to?

Edited by: Dark Shikari on 29/08/2005 19:27:47 There are three groups of people.
1. The [23]. I.e. the people who influence opinion on the forums.
2. The leaders. Foyle, etc.
3. The infamous. Tank CEO, Viceroy, Istvaan Shogaatsu, etc.
They each affect different portions of the EVE community in different ways.
Some have became so famous that they are nearly household names in EVE. Such as Foyle, and Istvaan. -- Proud member of the [23].

Istvaan, Lord zap and Tank CEO are the most famous. The most influential? Trigger... foyle.... really depends on what game you've been playing... you'll become aware of many more influential people if your out if low sec and 0.0 than if you stay in high sec space.

Yeah, but that thread concentrates on 'who have influenced you the most in the history of EVE'. I was more interested in 'who do you think are the most influential people right now, this very moment?' Who would you want on your side if you wanted the 75mm gatling nerfed? Who would you want on your side if you wanted to replace the leadership of PIE?
Edit: And ofc most players know the obvious nominations and reasons for them. I was hoping to see some less obvious choices with good reasoning behind it.

Although I know he's quit, I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Duke Droklar. I understand he had quite an effect.
CYVOK has as well - he's been a great CEO and an effective lobbyist on some changes, so far as I understand :)

The most influential players/organizations in EVE are not the folks who go around flaunting it on the forums. Remaining inconspicuous in this game presents several advantages... namely, being successfully influential.
Big names = popularity contest. This isn't high school.

The most influential people in eve today are clearly the leaders of the major alliances/PvP factions, and some of the more notable production folks like the leaders of NAGA, and a handful of random forum *****s and of course a few notable pirate types. I don't know the names, but it wouldn't take long to come up with a pretty comprehensive list just by seeing who's in charge of the various powerful PvP/Alliance/Production organizations in eve.

I hate not knowing things
There are a number of threads around.
An alt (possibly Derisor's) posted a while back with a whine about how his horrible ideas always got shot down by the same 23 people (Rod Blaine, me, and others). The number was completely random and off the top of his head.
But the name stuck.
Nosferatu, me, Rod Blaine, and a few others are stated members of the [23], but you can include whoever you want as long as they post 30-50 times a day and are anti-whiner .
Its almost a giant bad joke.
Its not the 23 most influential though. That would be probably the 2nd and 3rd category--the leaders (Foyle, CYVOK, Xirtam, etc), and the infamous (Tank CEO, Lord Zap, Viceroy, Istvaan). -- Proud member of the [23].

No one.
The only people who have influenced the game for me would be the people exploited weaknesses in the game design and forced the devs to change stuff.
Other than secondary inflience through devs no one has real influence IMO.

In reality you all realize that the best pvp'ers that are or were in game are not necessarly the most important on an eve macro?
And as far as the most influential being in .0 that may or may not be the case. They may be in .0 but being in .0 has nothing to do with influence.
Personal opinion is whoever controls the more popular t2 bpo's choosing where they will be sold and to a lesser extent to who. Eve may be a pvp game to a great extent but this pvp is by and large controled by economics and the one who controls the isk controls eve doesn't matter if they never utter a word on anything.

I feel a sustained influence in any one particular area of the game would be difficult. I personally had my moments in the sun , influencing Raven prices in Yulai (pre patch), taking my stockpiles of minerals to market thus filling many... many buy orders and ( the most influential in my opinion) gate ganking bout 40 haulers travelling through Egg.
I think everyone can be influential in some way if they have a good plan and can stick to it.

ALT's, like this 1.
Alt's are everywhere. people forget a 2year old active player in a corporation can be a alt.
most alt that get into these possitions are directors. trusted and well conected.
their words can alter corp policy, start and end wars.

Good point. I don't think any character has really affected my gameplay directly either. But then again, I'm not important enough for anyone to spend time/isk on. However, 'forcing devs to change stuff' isn't always bad, ppl did whine enough to get my mega a bit better. ^^

Looked there. looked like a load of little flames from the start, so didn't continue. But my own personal list, before i read the rest of this thread.
1) Jade Constantine. The ultimate icon of adoration/hatred ever on the Eve forums. Spawned entire wars with her vitriol, valiantly gathered the righteous to do battle with da ebil ppl... Made things interesting.
2) Foyle. pretty much the same as Jade in terms of peoples opinions of them. More actual hard military power, less ideological following. Sadly, probably more hated than Jade in some quarters simply because she is actually female. We <3 you Foyle
3) Halseth Durn, Prophecy, Sir Molle, Xirt.... Blah all the people on my list are the people who have made the game fun to play. People who caused actual- and forum- wars on a grand scale. I miss the days when when things got really nasty, when you could feel for a few hours that it was almost real, you could go out, blow the crap out of someone, or get the crap blown out of you, endure the shame, claim the glory. These days, its more like a polite tea party with guns, where everyone can get rich again quick if they die, and the worst thing you can do is offend someone. Dunno, maybe some people do take in character abuse (when im playing, pretty much everything is in character... no i don't roleplay as such like some people do, but as far as im concerned just playing the game is roleplaying. I'm much different in real life compared with eve.) personally, but most people can handle it. While I do agree that the game mechanics are getting better (despite the still complete lack of large scale combat capability), I miss the days when you could get completely immersed in the game, and the people i mentioned above are some of those who were best at making that possible.
P.S. Bring back Jade.

I'd say the original m0o are the most influential. The number of exploits they found in their early days, and the things they did with their ships really changed the way the game evolved. W/o them, Eve would be a VERY different game, play-wise.

And how is Dr Scope so influential? He certainly isn't the king of tech 2 (many other corps own many more BPOs), and hasn't done anything that any other T2 magnate hasn't done.
