Will some of you youngsters have mercy on an old man and translate some of the Leet Speek stuff into english?
One phrase that escapes me is "<3".
No need to explain "haxor" and "suxor". Those are so obvious that even I could figure them out.

It isn't leetspeak. <3 is just a heart. Look at it sideways.
Even "pwn" isn't leetspeak anymore. Its only leetspeak if its only used by the idiots and scriptkiddies -- Proud member of the [23].

"love"
Rotate 90 degrees anticlockwise and it might look something like a heart.

As much as I despise terms like 'lol' and 'omg'... they make sense because they are useful to people who are too lazy to learn how to type properly because they serve as acronyms and save time.
Words like 'pwn' are used by morons, teenagers, and adults who want to appear as if they are a moron or a teenager... thus making it 'leetspeak'.

Thanks to all for clearing that <3 thing up.
What does </3 mean? No love?
Also other leetspeek definitions would be welcome.
There was no internet in my youth. Heck, we had only 3 channels on TV!

Gives a nice overview.
I vaguely remember my family getting our first colour TV set but was brought up on 4 channels for most of my childhood.

Not really.
Perhaps this was true years ago.
I type at 140 WPM and am very serious about grammar and spelling. I make sure to be articulate in everything I say.
I still use "lol", "omg", "wtf", and "pwn." -- Proud member of the [23].

Actually leet speek had nothing to do with CounterStrike.
Hackers used to just host websites, but the government only had to use search engines to find them by typing in "Hacking" or other key words.
So they started making site titles with numbers and symbols to evade these searches.
If you looked up hacking on a search engine, you would not find the sites that were titled/tagged "h4xors" or "fone phreaking" etc.
Just some history for you. _____________________________________________ Kills: 0 Repeats: 0 Bounties Collected...you guessed it.

The only reason I ever learned leet speak (though is it really considered "learning"?) was because in the early days of WoW, before I quit, you could communicate with the opposing side by using hardcore leetspeak. Since letter would be changed into random other letters when the other team saw them, you could get by this by going super hardcore leet. Since symbols and numbers remained unchanged. So I could pass on pearls of wisdom to the dirty alliance.

Guess I'm getting old, but I don't understand most of this leet-/dudespeak. Another "word" that eludes me is 4TW - what is that supposed to mean?
I realize PWN means "own", but why the P? I don't see the connection between O and P except that they are next to eachother in the alphabet (P doesn't even look like an O).
Please enlighten me children, so I may communicate with you

pwn isn't even leetspeak, it's a word that people misspell on purpose.
Just like when you write "teh" instead of the in a sentence it means that you're making fun of stupid people
"Omg i win teh game!"
Or !!!!111 - another typing mistake that people make on purpose...
4tw means "for the win"
