some gas planets do have a solid core............. The internal structure of Neptune: 1. Upper atmosphere, top clouds 2. Atmosphere consisting of hydrogen, helium and methane gas 3. Mantle consisting of water, ammonia and methane ices 4. Core consisting of rock (silicates and nickel-iron)
The internal structure of Uranus: 1. Upper atmosphere, top clouds 2. Atmosphere consisting of hydrogen and helium 3. Mantle consisting of water, ammonia and methane ices 4. Core consisting of rock (silicates and nickel-iron)
its very likely that gas giants also have a tiny solid core... however the gravity, pressure and heat would be too intense for humans to survive there. |

DUST isn't something we're shipping and then done with and moving on to some sequel, like many other console shooters out there -- it'll keep evolving over time.
Battlefield 3. Evolved its combat...
Modern Warfare sort of evolved its combat.
I don't play Halo, so I can't say..
Gears of War another evolved combat system
MAG was a great first attempt at MMOFPS status on a console. Could maybe take somethings from there.
Alot of console FPS shooter sequals are actually better than their formers. LoL but w/e CCP More Hype for you..
But please don't say console shooters don't evolve tho. There are only a few actual good FPS's on consoles that people actually play. I say now though that although your ambitions are warranted and favored. It really shouldn't take YEARS to evolve or it will fall into the wayside. The console market moves alot faster as far as games than the PC market. Know this now or you guys are gonna be hurting for live players in your game.
Traversing the console market is very different from the PC market just keep that in mind... Oh and WiS would more than likely help your guys efforts. Ya' might wanna let someone at the office know about that one. |

Eve players cannot interfer where dust players can deploy and vice versa without having to jump games or afflence though the other game, however over the PI area is where they screw each other over. Luckily Isk that goes into eve never comes back out so Dust mercs cant possibly hire eve online players to do thier bidding, however we eve players can transfer isk to them and to them its worth alot more so they can definelty use our money to good use.
It's been stated pretty clearly you'll have to move your War Barge around EVE.
How interactable it is is the question. I understand that the PI orbital war is the relevant place to interact, but I would think it unusual that moving your War Barge around EVE isn't visible to Capsuleers. It would actually be a genuine "NPC" (Non-Pod Capsuleer) ship, which would be pretty freaking cool. Also the first EVE ship ever that players can walk inside - while it moves through space. So, I'm wondering how THAT will be handled. Looking out into each unique solar system? Seeing EVE Ships fly by?
Think about it, if Capsuleers will be able to do orbital strikes, it would mean that they can SEE the Dust Map, potentially Dust assets moving around on our orbital strike UI, so we'd need all those art assets on EVE (or very low resolution versions of it). How unlikely is it that Dust Mercs will need EVE assets to SEE what they're shooting at in space? At that point, you might as well just go the whole way.

Fixed that for you.
Oh, and, why is this not surprising that a CCP product release is of limited-scope, thereby breaking immersion?
Ciar Meara wrote:That is a shame since it is clearly alluded to in the latest chronicle and artwork on the dust514 site.
CCP Shadow == owned.
I can just see the posts now:

i believe the way ccp explained it was that DUST players will be able to point to a specific spot for orbiting ships to bomb. im pretty sure its going to work in the way broadcasting targets works, not actually zooming in and seeing the specific spot. |

I would totally not press that big red button unless I get to see the aftermath.
Dust mercs can eat dirt until I get to see the pretty special effects and the carnage. :)

/armchair gamedeveloper mode engaged:
In my opinion the allocation of resources to the development of various playable planet types at launch would really increase the appeal of the game. Which when you look at the competition is probably desperately necessary. I'm sure most people, including the DUST devs, would agree that you can't really compete with established console FPS franchises in terms of pure gameplay or polish, so CCPs strategy seems to be to cater to a different audience with a noticeably different set of features (for example persistency.) That approach is fine in my book, although I don't think it is very likely to lead to a commercial (and let's face it, this is what CCP is actually after, and rightfully so) success.
So keeping in mind this we-offer-something-different mindset, I find it hard to understand why DUST should limit itself to such a generic and bland setting for the game like the "random temperate planet #274563". It's true enough, in order for DUST to have any chance at being a success, you need to offer something no one else does, like EVE itself did back in the day. So instead of offering levels and maps set in an environment that, sci-fi buildings and equipment aside, could just as well appear in any other current FPS, I think it would really pay off to bring the players to fresh, interesting places like a Gas Planet or Plasma Planet. Some of the previous posters already mentioned some great scenarios.
So tl;dr:
Why would a game that desperately needs to set itself apart from other FPSs only provide bland, generic level environments? |

Yeah, that sounds like fun. Make it so jet packs need fuel, hydrogen, and they need to deploy a hydrogen fule maker gizmo. If you run out of gas, you die. Try to take out the enemy fule cans/production as you work your way to thier base, blah blah :) |
