What Sci-fi shows/movies do you like. I myself like all the ones that start with 'Star'(trek, wars, etc) and my fave is Stargate SG-1, which also boasts actors from other great shows, andromeda and farscape...

I love quite a few of them, but here's probably the order of the ones I absolutely love:
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (this has no equal, anywhere. I put it way above the others. Its the only series I have ever watched that I've found rewatchable over and over. Even Firefly, SG-1, and TNG for me only were good once per episode.) Firefly (Ownage. Western + Scifi - Technobabble = awesome) Stargate SG-1 (The classic. Atlantis was a dissapointment) Star Trek: TNG (The best of the Treks)
Some other interesting stuff I've seen:
Ghost in the Shell: Innocence (A bit too philosophical, but above all things, it had mindblowing special effects) Appleseed (a full-length fully-CGI sc-fi action thriller... it had some flaws, but I still loved it) Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (The only truly great one of the original series movies. Still good to this day) Star Trek VIII (Borg. 'nuff said) Star Wars IV/V (The only truly great movies of the Star Wars franchise. I never really liked star wars, but these are still true masterpieces) 2001 (I don't understand what people are thinking when people say this movie is "boring." It is one of the greatest scifi films ever made) -- Proud member of the [23].

I really liked Deep Space Nine when I was younger. Not really into sci-fi much though. ------------------------------

I'm a big fan of all the series' of StarTrek, despite the fact that it is usually monumentally plagued with plot flaws, and generally dosen't make any sense. -----------------

Yup, all trek is good trek. No matter what anyone else says, Kirk is still the best Starfleet captain ever, Even if Patrick Stewart is a far superior actor, as he proved in X-Men. Kirk could beat picard, archer and janeway simultaniously. The only Captain that would give a challenge would be Sisko.

I'm a closet trekie at heart despite its flaws.
Star wars was ok but still good.
I love SG1, I used to watch Richard Dean Anderson when I was a kid when he played in McGyver.
Can't seem to find time to watch Dr. Who, used to watch the old ones late at night.

Edited by: Kyguard on 04/09/2005 04:35:10 Stargate Sg1 - Really corny to the point where I believe I am wasting my life watching it
Stargate: Atlantis - More corny? Big symbols on gates make this show a lame one . It's discontinued (I think...and hope)
Star Trek - Fun to watch most of the time
Star Trek: TNG - My favourite out of all of them due to the characters (Picard 4tw!) Still watch it
Star Trek: DS9 - Didn't really get into it due to the 'hero' and 'impossible' factor revolved around the characters and the station. Definitely the best effects and action out of the Star Trek series
Star Trek: Voyager - Don't like the captain and chekontah too much, but it was a good series (good classic episodes) Still watch it
Star Wars: Ep 4/5/6 - great classics, always worth the watch
Star Wars: Ep 1/2/3 - I like sci-fi, which is probably the only reason I have positive opinions of these movies. Nice effects nonetheless.
Andromeda - A bit ****y for me and a little too much romance, gets repetetive after a while.
Wing Commander - Old sci-fi save-the-earth-from-aliens movie. Extremelely good, It'd kick the gooey insides out of most sci-fi movies to date in terms of plot. Recommend you watch it _________________________________ God is always on the side with the best artillery. |

------------------------------------------------------ Nope, it is still alive and kicking. In Canada it is only available if you have tyhe movie network, which is only available if you have digital cable. It is on Mondays. But SG-1 is better.....Jack rocks and Sam reminds me of a close friend.

Farscape (Best Sci-Fi ever - no contest) Stargate: Atlantis (Never liked SG:1 until 9th season) Stargate: SG-1 (From 9th season and forth) Star Trek Enterprise (Season 3 was good, rest sucked) Battlestar Galatica (Love it) Family Guy (I know it's not sci-fi but who cares - it's brilliant)

Dude, its still anime.
And?
I could say the same about Star Trek: "Star Trek, its still crappy American television!"
Since when is any particular genre of scifi any less important, or less interesting, than any other? In fact, the Matrix trilogy stole quite a bit of its ideas from the original Ghost in the Shell manga, which completely obliterates your point (especially since by comparison, the Matrix was pretty bad...)
Besides, the whole "its a ship in space with a captain and crew and they're exploring new worlds" deal is way overdone these days (along with Lets-Copy-Blade-Runner). Standalone Complex is a nice little departure from the norm. And like the best of the Treks, it confronts societal issues, and questions of humanity itself... -- Proud member of the [23].

Babylon 5 tops the list every time. Even series 5 is better than most of the shows out there. As for the rest... ST: DS9 (Better than TNG, and Voyager/enterprise were boring as hell) Space: Above and Beyond (why the hell did they cancel that show) SG-1 is good Farscape (most interesting non-arc storyline of the lot) Star Wars, the original Trilogy and Episode 3, 1 & 2 were rubbish 2001: A Space Odyssey The Matrix (the sequels sucked badly) Pitch Black (Chronicles wasn't bad either) Aliens (pwnage)
all I can thing of for the moment -----------

Nope, most of it I don't.
The original "giant robot" anime was pretty darn bad. The first truly scifi mecha was the gundam series, but I never really liked that. It still didn't have much "science" in the Science Fiction. And being a more hard scifi fan, I avoided it.
Ghost in the Shell is not mecha at all to begin with, and so doesn't even fall into that category. Calling Ghost in the Shell a "robot anime" is like calling Star Trek: TNG a "robot series" because it has Data in it. -- Proud member of the [23].

Firefly, the new Battlestar Galactica, and select anime like Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell, etc. I never got into Star Trek or Star Wars much. I usually like "realistic sci-fi with believable characters."

Someone here knows what he's talking about.
Bebop though... I wouldn't call it scifi. Just because its set in space doesn't make it science fiction... its really its own genre.

In order: The new Battlestar Galactica -imho the best television ON television currently....much more than just 'sci-fi' in feel and story.
Firefly--browncoats 4TW!!
Bablyon5 - For the Great Maker JMS to pave the way for REAL story telling via a network 'series'.
Stargate SG-1 -- for pure fun. Atlantis-----for not being a carbon copy of SG-1
and..........Lost, while not completely sci-fi..........being one of the best dramas with a sci-fi twist.

Battlestar Galactica, the new series. Definatly my favorite Sci-fi show right now. Also watch SG1 (don't like Atlantis so much). Babylon 5 had some of the best dialogue and storyline I've seen, still one of my favorites. TNG was great back in its day, but I don't enjoy watching it much anymore...
And the Matrix of course, I liked all 3 of them, although the first one was definatly the best.
