Steve Spooner wrote:Have you ever tried to FC a group of mission runners and WH explorers? They never broadcast reps and instead yell on teamspeak for reps and whine when they get popped. Case in point in FW we had 8 logi's in a fleet on 80. We should by all means be swamped by broadcasts. Instead 3/4th of the time one of my shield transporters sat there unactivated because no one broadcasted, until a lone merlin down to hull wanted some love and he get 8 transporters full of it. Oh then a drake popped and cried in fleet chat because we didn't rep him. Now imagine that but 200 times worse. Go for it, I would love to see.
Part of that is the non-sense of the fleet UI.
You have 2 choices for one problem: save screen real estate to actually see your target(s) but can't distinguish the broadcast buttons apart; or increase your entire UI scaling and only see screen boxes the size of Everest.
Quote:Instead 3/4th of the time one of my shield transporters sat there unactivated because no one broadcasted
EvE is really backwards on that stuff. A healer (repper) is suppose to anticipate damage and either prevent it or heal it. Not wait for others to tell them to do their job. It's no wonder why folks in this game are telling reppers they have to have fighting skills, they act like Rets having to offheal.
But, but, but this isn't WoW!!! Yeah, because EvE doesn't have the UI that can even compete (And if bots are attached to broadcasts to even repair, more so). They yell in voice because they're used to having a healer actually do their job, not wait for the other roles to tell them when and maybe even how. That's like a healer telling the FC and DPS when they can even do their job.

So novel that even WoW players could see right through it (thus the Orc snark).
Mining ships are like healers. They're really good for their role, but put them into a tank/DPS role they would die.
It's very clear what mining ships can and can't do, and CCP made sure those ships couldn't have dual roles.

Say the same thing to the much more numerous High Sec community, and you get....crickets. It would seem the their is an inverse relationship between the sec status where people lives verses the relative amount of "ballsack" possessed, as one increases, the other seems to increase.
I suggest more scientific study into it, as well a sthe assignment of a cool latin sounding name such as "HighSecus Lackus Testicleus" or something.

And like a healer, can't DPS.
Do you know the outcome?
Podded.
And what this Goon isn't saying: those EHP numbers doesn't come from gear, it's skills. So any miner going that route is the AFKer who's main activity is PvP with the level 5 skills, too.

That was 5 years ago, the barges are even tankier now.

With the lack of mids, the "tank" would be pretty lacking anyway on anything but an Orca.
And we all know how any mining ships/command ore ships fare even tanked in PvP. They can survive a short time, but it's delaying the ineviable, unless DPS and support arrives in time (and proper DPS and support ships). Any miner of that mindset can figure out the command structure; roles; mechanics and how to move/fight in fleet pretty quickly. But going in as a miner only fleet it's going to end up as a total disaster even if they can max tank and equip weapons and ECM or fighter bombers. Just like trying to form a PvP fleet without the necessary support.

Actually I think I'd like "raiding" in the game. it's kind of there but not done often due to how a lot of mechanics works - we just tend to call such activities by a different names "going on a roam" style comments.
Bounce through a gate camp with 20 ships - do this for a few days and check the forums for the "blob" whine threads from the hung-over gate campers that were used to just sitting there drunk while fluffing their KB.
Other ways I'd like to see it working are more like empowering Bops. Bounce in ... lets say a mix of 30 bombers plus 30 Recons & T3's into a target system, stomp the hell out of POS's, SOV units, straggling ratters/miners and such - and get out quickly but where trashing that stuff actually yields some fairly valuable drops for the raiders.
Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing "raiding" actually work better in the game - a lot better than it does. |

Better to have small, medium, large, X-large and world "boss" roams.
Small is like a dungeon size. Medium is like a 10man raid. Large is like a 25man raid. X-Large like a 40man. World boss is like seen in RIFT with the dynamic bosses.

I don't think you realize how much EHP this stuff has. Now that just depends on how you define quick. If it is in minutes, well your out of luck, but if quick is defined in hours and days, you are fine. My recommendations are:-á 1.James Arget 2.Ayeson 3.Nathan Jameson 4.Cipreh 5.Chitsa Jason 6. Malcanis 7. Mike Azariah 8. Ripard Teg 9. Mangala Solaris 10. Ali Aras |

If you understand "raids" you'll understand they're well aware of things like boss HP and associated mechanics. Mocam put up a good suggestion as well...raid loot. Because that's why PvErs raid -- LOOT!
PvPers kill for thrills, raiders kill for loot.
