I donÆt see many Blackbirds about these days, and thought I would give it a *****.
I would therefore appreciate any constructive criticisms or recommendations on the following BB setup.
Ethics aside , will be used for mainly solo belt work.
Hi û 3 x Arbalest Assault Launchers, 1 x Medium Knave
Med - 1 x Fleet Webber, 1 x Fleet Scrambler, 1 x Sensor Booster 2, 3 x æHypnosÆ Multi Specs.
Low - 2 x PDU IIÆs.

I'd rather use sensor dampeners then multi - specs, if you can jam them under 20km - they go down no matter what.

Id agree with the guy who posted above, switching the multis with dampners.
Id also change the web for a ab and the scrammer for a distruptor, then booya ^^ - - - - - - - - - - -

Since you are not using a shield booster might as well use Capacitor Power Relay i think the best once will give you a 20% recharge rate i think. You might even be able to fit a damage mod. As for the lauchers id use heavy lauchers if frigs give you trouble just jam them and get the hell out. The rest looks good to me. --------------------------------------------- "Where the air is crisp."

im asuming hes going pirating in which case he need a webber and warp disruptor. As for the dampeners they are only affective against one ship the jammers are there to get him out of a sticky situation i.e. multiple ****ed off carebears. Your choice though - dampeners vs 1 person, jammers vs 3. --------------------------------------------- "Where the air is crisp."

Drop 1 PDU II for a 1600mm steel plate. Fit one cap booster in your mids, or you'll cap out before you manage to kill anything.

When I saw this topic I thought, man, back in 2003/4 people used to solo/duo in blackbirds. But that was back when eve was fun.
It just doesn't work anymore.

Tell that to Skull HsC and I believe you would find that he disagree's
Back in the day when I was BOS...Skull and I used to run solo or together in Black Birds. There wasn't anything that we couldn't handle. I watched skull do amazing things in this ship.
There isn't any ship in this game that can't work solo PvP.
It depends on the situation and or conditions you run into.
I believe that the Black Bird is more effective now then before the Cold War patch.
TO the set up question: I agree with the idea of running dampners. and there is the cap issue with the multi-specs. but no matter what there is the possibility that you will miss a cycle with both. E-war is not a sure thing anymore. So to that end I would say if your gonna run the dampners don't worry so much about the cap rechargers. If your going to run Multi-specs then I would fill your lows with 2 of them.
I wouldn't suggest using a MWD on the Black Bird as you can get decent speed with just a tech II AB or named AB. and the MWD eats the cap like no tomorrow.
Another suggestion would be run 2 NOS and 2 heavy launchers. I prefer the heavys to standards as they do more damage. but that is just my personal prefrence.
good hunting.

I remember when I first started EVE and I got into a blackbird, I went with 2 friends (1 in a BB, and the other in a taranis)
Apoc warps in 40km... Tara gets him and we jam him... 5 Minutes and lots of shooting... 1 Dead poc

What the BB lacks is damage output, therefor i would try using blasters (or any other medium sized close range gun since it doesnt have any bonus for one specific gun type). Il assume this ship would be used for pirating, and then you the closer you are to the target the better you can make sure it stays, so the short range of blasters isnt realy a problem.

Just a thought, but what about dropping the Sensor Booster for a Passive Targeter?
If doing solo belt work, may help you get the drop?
I will however say, that in my limited experience as a , as soon as anyone sees 'flashing yellow'in belts they tend to run, therefore Passive could turn out to be a waste...

I just hopped into a Blackbird and took it for a spin yesterday. The reason was that I was bored of the Thorax and I have good EW skills.
The set-up I was running was:
Hi 2xMed Nosferatu 2xAssault Launcher Med 1xWarp Disruptor 1xWebber 4xSensor Dampener Low 2xNanofiber Internal Structure
The ship is like a paper bag, especially since you sacrific all tanking for EW. But it is so much fun!
I fitted the Med Nosferatus to insure that I didn't run out of capacitor. I fitted assault launchers because I didn't have the skill to use heavy missiles at the time. I do now though. I actually think that an AB could be a safer bet than a webber, not sure. The nanofibers were to get some good speed and maneuvrability.
I started off low, and managed to take out a Catalyst no problem. I also managed to take out a team of a Maulus and a Tristan by dampening the Maulus and Nossing the Tristan. Before anyone flames me, I know these are small fry, but I was just getting used to my Blackbird. Also what I do like about it is that when you have won a fight, you have time to ransom and negotiate.
The problems are that it's a really weak ship. It's damage output is pathetic. Only using 4 sensor dampeners is a bit risky. It gets owned by drones no problem.
This is my revised set-up for the BB intended to be used with a tackler wingman.
Hi 2/3xMed Nosferatu 1/2xHeavy Missile Launchers Med 6xSensor Dampeners Low 2xSignal Amplifiers/2xNanofibers/2xCPR
Still not entirely sure. But I think with a competent wingman this ship could take out a battleship. It may need a Co-proc in the lows to fit, not sure. This ship beats the hell out of the Thorax in terms of fun, and definitely worth a try when you're bored of ganking other cruisers in a Thorax. |

The reason bb's are not used to much is ECM pod suck the way they work now. Turn on a ecm pod and it might work and it might not. next cycle. maybe yes maybe no. STUPID!!!! its an electrical device turn on it works.
So one guys said use 4 dampners and I agree. but also was said the bb is a paper cup and dies really fast. TRUE!!!
I use to love the BB and then I moved to Scorpion. EW was fun!
now your just a target and you normally die when the cycle says. NOT!
I lost tons of bb and a SCorpion or 2 to snipers that can fire farther than your ecm can jam and I have all the new skills to 4.
Get a different cruiser and park the bb. use Dampners to reduce locking distances.
But in close assaults dampners will not help RUN!
Sorry to sound negative. And Im sure the flames will start shortly. I loved ECM before in the Curse days. If I owned CCP the person who listened to the nooob who cryed about being jammed would be fired. Just my thoughts.
EX-CA and EX EW lover.
Thanks

Why use Dampners on a BB.
The Celestis gets a bonus for Dampners. So surely its a better choice ?
