Hi Guys and Gals!
I started playing Eve about 24 hours ago, just want to write down my impressions!
Never saw such a universe, it's just huge. Amazing Graphics, quite good gameplay... nice interface... the tutorial was the first thing i did, took me about 5 hours, but was worth it ^^ . Im doing now some mining to get some money, couldn't even afford a good ship, and good weapons are very expensive i saw.. but i have to say: i will love this game, and so i see, the community seems to be nice too, and thats an important point...
so now i have some questions:
i am a minmatar, still cruising around with my startup-ship. What frig should i buy, when i get the money to buy it. Im doing mining primary, but fighting aswell, so any tips for me?

For fighting you are going to want a Rifter, for mining i think a probe would be best.

welcome to EVE, Jessica!
and Rifters most certainly DO rock - so much so that i trained Minmatar Frigates just to get one :)
I'm relatively new myself (a month or so), but if i can answer any questions or help a fellow-n00b out, please let me know :)

And remember to buy the Learning skills and train them to level 4 after you get some basic skills under your belt. They'll reduce the time it takes to train skills, definatly worth the time to train.
And welcome to EVE =)

i envy you Tyr Met'rak,
how wonderful it is starting out fresh, and you may find that two years later you'll still look forward to logging on :)
dont get overwhelmed with all the functions, that will take you months to figure out and perfect. Get a Probe, great ship excellent mining bonus's, with speed and large hold. Try the missions and work through them, they are worth it even for veterans.
when you feel confident join a corp, get involved with politics (if thats your thing), or just mingle in some combat corp.
Good luck :)

hell yes. This cannot be repeated enough. I can deal with the vast majority of 0.1 belt spawns in my kessie solo. great ship.

i'd agree with that - i haven't flown a Kestral so might be talking out of my butt, but from the stats it doesn't look to be SOOOO superior to other frigates - what am I missing, guys?

EVE Community > Any other community tbh :)
If you want to mine, get a probe - if you want to do kill missions (or even PVP), get a rifter :) --------

The hardest thing is: i could fly a cruiser, but i dont own the money for thje skills and the ship ... depressive thing ^^ i can't even afford a destroyer, but the skills i have.. just hard to wait hihi
but i will do mining till i can afford destroyer and cruiser :)¿
and yes: seems like the eve community is the nicest of all mmorpgs i played :)

Buy a destroyer first, all the experienced players sais it sucks, but it just sucks in their eyes cuz it cant insta-gank imo. otherwise its a great ship b4 going into a cruiser. ive made 10 million with it in about 2 weeks so i think im doing well...
Im in a Cormorant, but i heard that the thrasher is better anyway

The Thrasher Minmatar Destroyer is a fantastic ship. Get your Rifter and Probe to begin with so you can earn some ISK for a Thrasher, then jump in. I till be able to do everything you need that a Probe and Rifter can. It will be able to do any level 1 mission that Minmatar agents offer (that I've ever come accross at least) and when you're good, all but one of the level 2 combats and a few level 2 hauls. It's a great investment and sidestep to take whilst you wait until you have the ISK and skills to use a Cruiser. |

100% agree - i started out like Jessica, able to get in a cruiser but without the cash - so i worked and got a Thrasher (which I adore) and when I had the cash to go to the cruiser, i surprised myself by using the destroyer still for a lot of things - I still have my Destroyer and while I don't use it as much as I should, it's possibly still my favourite ship for sentimental value

I still use the thrasher. It can be very dangerous if you invest a lot in it, the only problem ive ever had with it is the CPU power.
Oh, and for mining..a lot of these guys are saying Probe, i recommend Vigil however due to its CPU power. You can use two Miners + a missile launcher on a vigil, and use a shield booster to boot (cargo expanders as well to increase your cargo space). Dont mine with the thrasher, its CPU cant handle it.
Next time i log ingame ill give you a bunch of loot from 30 minutes of .4 belt hunting, this will let you "Examine" lots of ingame items, as well as give you toys to experiment with. I learned a lot just by clicking "show info" on a lot of the items when i first started.
And, if youd rather MAKE a thrasher than buy it, ill show you how to do that as well, and mine with you for an hour or two to help you get needed minerals. Basically ill give you a jumpstart advanced tutorial, in return maybe you can learn to trust some people with Ransoms and negative security ratings.
Good Luck, hope to see you in game.

Congratulations on your graduation from the university Tyr Met'ak.
The best starting frigate for mining is the Probe. Plain and simple. Armed with some decent weapons, it can also deal with low level locals. It also has a Drone bay, so training up Drones and Scout Drones is advantageous. I would also train Learning skills up to at least level 4, to start.

Either free the slaves or we will come and get them.

<3 what a swell fella!
although i'd slightly disagree about the Thrasher for mining - right off the bat you can fit it with 4 EP-s miners (assuming you can find/afford them) and still have 46 CPU points left to put to other modules - not much, but i rarely stick around and fight in a mining vessel so an ECM burst, a few cargo holds and maybe an AB and you're set :)
my Thrasher (The Complex Messiah) is what i use to clear 0.3+ areas of rats and then go back and mine in :)
possibly the reason i'm so attached to this ship is that it felt like my own Millenium Falcon, i had it while training some of the skills that allowed me to make modifications every few hours/day or so, such as Electronics to get more CPU power so i could another 125mm railgun in there or Engineering for the power-grid boost, so it really felt like the ship grew with me in my early days.

I liked using the stabber for a fast moving artillery boat.
The rupture is a nice close range demolisher
The Bellicose was my first "Droner"
Then i got a cyclone, and it could do all of the above

welcome to eve!
straight off the bat you have made an excellent choice of race there imho minmatar are very versatile and can be adapted to any style of play, they are the fastest, and can hold their own in any pvp situation
I prefer npc hunting to mining for making cash so i would recomend the rifter, after a while you will start to really get a hang of the way eve works. probably the most sound advice any1 can give you tho is to get on the chat channels and make a few friends in game(looks like youve made a few already )

Welcome to Eve, but be warned: it can be hard to leave! (Just noticed that rhymed )
Like you say, the community is important: ultimately, it's the thing that gives the game longevity. I recommend choosing a corp quite carefully. A good corp will help you learn the basics quickly and will help you to get some money in your wallet.
Competition is at the heart of this game, so try and find a corp that isn't afraid to indulge in some PvP if you can, as this will give you the opportunity to get your feet wet in combat early on in your career.
Specialising initially in one class of ship, and one type of weapons enables you to catch up with veterans relatively quickly - one of the beauties of the skill system.

welcome to eve
id reccomend rifter for fighting and a probe for mining
im not too sure, but wasnt the rifter given a third turret?
for learning about eve you should join the help channel while your mining and just read all the questions and answers, at this point you proabably dont know much and what to ask, so that id help.

your attributes are VERY important on what you want to do in eve. If you want to be a pvp'er your going to need high perception and willpower, if your going to be a industrial character then high intelligence and memory.
Seems like you want to be a fighter, so you might want to make sure you got the higest perception and willpower you can have, if not you can restart your character, since your character is still very young _________________________________________________ <3 hi |
