I'm having trouble deciding what mp3 player i wanna buy I want it strictly for music. I'll list the things I want it to have.
1 gb space usb 1.1 or 2.0 (prefer 2.0 though) battery life of 16 hours give or take, don't care if the battery is inbuilt or one you have to buy one. GOOD SOUNDQUALITY, I'm a music man And TOUGH don't want it to break as I'm gonna use it everyday.
Thx in advance for any info on any.

i personally dont see the point paying ú179 for an ipod mini when u can pay an extra ú20-30 for one that is 20x the size!

Get a 2nd hand MiniDisc player.
My MZ-N1 MD player had a battery life of 40h, upto 108h with the battery pod (an AA battery strapped to the side).
Not 1gb, but about 4-5 albums on each disc.

Zen Touch 20GB = 200 USD, same as an iPod, 50% more battery life, and isn't made by Apple (i.e. doesn't suck). -- Proud member of the [23].

if u do decide to get an ipod mini, get the 6gb version instead of the 4gb one. its about 20 quid more, but worth it, as it gives u a bit more space. software in it uses up about .2 gig anyways, so u really only get 3.8 or 5.8 gb with these

Edited by: hired goon on 15/09/2005 14:36:08 Ipod are a bit poofter, and also hard drive based which means less battery life and less durable. Since they are mechanical they could be more easily damaged.
goon recommends looking at 1gb solid-state players for durability, and battery life. Also smaller solid state players which take memory cards - these players are generally very cheap and still have good sound quality.
Solid state players are also smaller and lighter.

I'd suggest checking out this site.
According to them they only sell 'quality products'. I can't guarantee that's right but I know for sure that their after sales customer service is excellent

I hate Apple itself. I got a Creative Zen Xtra 60Gb, a fine piece of mp3 machinery.

i like my rio carbon.. 5gb, mabye not 16 hours of life but damn, wtf you gonna be doing for 16 hours a day?
it can charge with a usb2 connector in the back of your pc or a wall adaptor.. GREAT sound quality, has equalizer and everything, even on crappy headphones it will sound great, i switched from a cd player to this and noticed a huge driffrence tough.. well ive dropped it from say 4 feet onto hard asphalt say 2 times now and it dident even turn off, only small scratches in the paint job.

Slightly off-topic, but I'm sure you will all forgive me.
Most pocket-computers (AKA PDA) will play mp3s. I have a Palm Zire 72 that does this. It also does scheduling, phone numbers, text, ebooks, games and a whole lot more. There are many programs available for this type of device from iChing to engineering.
They won't hold as many songs as an MP3-only device, but if you are into gadgetry they are worth a look.
Research before you buy.

I just bought a Samsung YP-MT6XC and it's a nice little unit. Made of super sturdy space age aluminum, with 512mb of Flash memory and over 40 hours of playback on a single battery (which is actually true, I used it every day at work for about 6 hours for a week and a half before it died, and that was with some no name brand cheap battery). It's not 1gb like you're looking for but I figured 512mb of flash memory is enough, and it means no moving parts.
On a side note doctors say listening to an mp3 player for more than 1 hour a day at 60% volume can damage your ears. Why are they always raining on my parade? _____________________________________

I once had an iriver 20gb, forget the model but it was 3 generations back and was not color. It worked for a while, but sorting music sucked cause you had to make your own folders, and there was no playlist function. Battery life was great though. It was also pretty durable. Until a little over a year having it it just shut down. So I bought a 20gb ipod photo a month ago and i love it. I don't see why you guys hate apple so much. My iriver was quite ugly and this ipod is very aesthetic in design, it works well. itunes is sort of a pain but its ok.

Well i got my ipod nano and i'm very happy with it. the winamp plugin works well and when its in your pocket you wouldnt even know its there. sounds great, however it didnt come with a dock, and it realy needs a case. i've had to leave the protective cover on the front atm --------
