Any pvp'er worth a damn knows jammer drones are incredibly op. More often then not they determine the winner of a fight, and are used almost exclusively over other EW drones due to this state of OP'ness.
A very simple and in my opinion REASONABLE nerf for them, would be to simply scale down the length of time they jam for. Simple. To me its silly they jam for a full 20 secs (the same amount of time a dedicated jammer module on a ship does). Scale it down.
EC-300 - 5 secs EC-600 - 10 secs EC-900 - 15 secs Jammer Module - 20 secs
Because they don't lose they're effectiveness at jamming, it still makes them usefull in combat situations but allows the jammed party to at least have a chance of fighting back rather then losing outright due to consecutive jams. |

You might end up with a problem here, if the jam attempt cycles are reduced to fit in with this you'd be having 4 x more attempts to jam per cycle for lights. Combine this with the time it takes to lock a ship and you'd probably find that even tho you might not be perma jammed by including lock time you'd barely be able to get shots off before another cycle hits .
you could leave the cycle time at 20 seconds, but then why would it only jam for 5? doesn't make much sense. |

Here we go again, the Pitchforks and torches are out after poor old ECM again
they gave us skill books for increasing sensor strength .............................. Your about as much use as a condom dispenser in the Vatican. |

If it was true, then simply "any PvP'er worth a damn" would use them. Since they are not restricted to any one race or such, it is per se a balanced game mechanic and does not need to be nerfed. Also, since drones are generally more difficult to handle in PvP than guns or missiles, it also not unreasonable that clever use of them has an impact on the fight. And as contributor above me has pointed out, they actually have been "nerfed" with the skills for increasing sensor strengths. If one does not train them, one leaves that hole in one's defenses open by own choice.
If one pilot does not LIKE to use them, or does not have the skills for them, then there is not necessarily anything wrong with them. |

Your correct. But reducing the jammer times enables a more reasonable fight. Under current mechanics despite having the anti-jamming skills all at 4, im still encountering 3-4 jams in a row to drones in fights (from ONE flight of drones). This is 1min - 1:20mins of not being able to do anything which means i die if im hard tackled. If the cycles times were reduced to my reasonable idea they could still get off 3-4 jams in a row but it would only be 15-20 secs of jam. That means i would at least have a chance to fight back.
Besides, why are none of the other EW drones ever used?? This is a perfect example that jammer drones need a nerf. |

If you are constantly losing battles because of ECM Drones then you're bad at Eve and should quit now. On a side note, yes, the ECM Drones are pretty much the only ones any players uses and that's not because they're OP it's because all the other EWar Drones are terribad. The strength of the this or that on all those other Drones are so bad that T1 mods on a player with LvL 1 of that skill is most times more effective and there's something wrong with that application. ECM Drones have a HUGE chance to fail compared to a very low skilled player with a T1 Racial ECM on a ship with ECM bonuses. Here's some actual data instead of the usual "NERF IT, CAUSE I SAY IT'S OP":
Hornet EC-300: Jam strength of 1 (5 with all Drones out, and each Drone has it's own chance to fail) Vespa EC-600: Jam strength of 1.5 (7.5 with all Drones out, and again each Drone can fail) Wasp EC-900: Jam strength of 2 (10 with all Drones out, same as above)
*NO skill/ship bonus can raise the Jam strength of any ECM Drones, max of (5) at any one time per ship, they die quick to SB's.
GRIFFEN (with Caldari Frigate LvL 3, Signal Dispersion LvL 1)
ECM - Multi Jammer I: Jam Strength 3.045 ECM - Ion Field Projector I (Racial): 4.56
*NO upgrade modules/rigs at all on ship, can be improved various ways, can fit several ECM modules at once.
FALCON (mostly LvL 4/5 skills incl Recon 5)
ECM - Multi Jammer II: Jam strength 7.2 ECM - Ion Field Projector II: Jam strength 10.8
*NO upgrade modules/rigs at all on ship, can be improved via those and a little via LvL 5 skills, can fit MANY ECM modules at once.
The best a player can do via ECM Drones is a Jam strength of 10 IF all 5 Drones don't fail to jam on that same cycle. A T1 Frigate with decent skills and a mod/rig or two can reach that number on EACH of a few modules. A Recon can get even higher on EACH modules while rocking as many as 6 ECM's.
Just because YOU fail against ECM Drones doesn't automatically make them OP, it just means you haven't learned how to counter them, so try a little then get back to us, mmk.

Chance to jam = jammer strength / target's sensor strength
so a 15 sensor strength ship has 6.667 % chance to be jammed per drone for ec-300's.
