To be honest Derisor, I understood your argument until the MS bashing started.
I have a G4 powerbook, and I truly love it. OSX is a truly beautiful thing. However, I find that the graphics support options on the powerbook limit it's playability as games become more advanced. When I first bought it, the games that existed (regardless of how few and far between) worked relaitively well. A lot of the games I run on it now just don't work as effectively.
I also like linux, and run a Linux web server and gateway. And this is where my point resides. I use linux for reliable server-type stuff, I use my powerbook to sit on the lounge and surf the net and a little photoshop, and I use my windows machines for everything else. You see, I like the sheer amount of options available for the x86 standard, and my ability to extend the life of my hardware by replacing one component rather than doing an overely expensive fork-lift upgrade.
As for your heat woes, it has nothing to do with Microsoft. It has to do with you/something you are doing wrong. If none of your hardware is faulty, then you will not have a problem if installed correctly.
I too run an ASUS M/B and an AMD 2600xp as a second machine, it is on all day with a above average CPU fan. It took me some time to get to this point, starting with a change of case (cause it wasn't venting enough heat), and secondly taking off the fan and removing some of the thermal paste cause it actually heated the cpu up, not transferred the heat to the fan assembly. It now runs happily 24x7 in summer in Australia with absolutely no problems what-so-ever. Prior to fixing my problems, the cpu would hit close to 70 degrees celsius prior to crashing.
In the time it has taken to write all of these replies and have a shot at Bill Gates, you could have removed the CPU, cleaned the paste and reapplied a smaller amount + changed the fan rather inexpensively. Add a new AU$60 case with good air-flow, and your problems would most likely be solved.
The cost of supporting this product, with the team at CCP as small as it is, across two platforms would be prohibitive, and would likely lead to a degredation of support to 98% of the likely playerbase. Not a good financial move imho.
Rather than tossing your entire machine, spend less than AU$100 and an hour on it, then use the MAC for your other stuff
Just my 2 isk worth ..
