I am, quite possibly, the worst pirate in all of EVE.
Lets start at the beginning. I was a sort of half carebear. Had a little PvP Experiance but nothing major, and i decided i wanted a little more excitement. With about 400 million in the bank i thought, why not give it a try.
So off i go. First off i take out my arty wolf.
I start sweeping the belts of Molden Heath and after around 3 hours i find a lone mining mammoth. I promptly ganked it, and to my surprise got 2 Local expanders!. However i felt so bad after doing so that i gave the guy 5 million isk for a new ship, and his Mods back.
After a little time to myself i decided that was stupid and i needed to man up! So i set out again.
Second victim is a mining Scythe. I attempted to ransom for 20 million (ive no idea what im doing at this time), to which im met with some rather harsh language and he is quickly popped. However, due to my stupidity i diddnt check anything about his character. He was in a rather big alliance and as i was on my way to his can when a plate Claw warps into the belt, OH NO! thought me hearing that plate claw V arty wolf = no wolf. However a lucky volley or 2 and the plateclaw was dead. Congratulations Soul you now have the entire Ushra' Khan alliance chasing you and theres only 1 gate out of the system.
I met a tempest, a vagabond and a few other delights at the stargate and began to stare at my pod.
So, outcomes the plateclaw. I find a rupture in a belt ratting. I scramble and Ransom him for a fine sum of 5 million isk. A few moments later, another rupture! cant believe my luck. I run in all guns blazing, scramble him and begin to ransom. He webs me, sits at about 8km and, again, i stare at my pod.
No worries Soul! Out comes the jammerscrop. On my way to pickup the NOS, SNIGG Destroys it at a gate.
Out comes the Tempest. On my way to pickup artillary, Cranberry Muffin man blows that up, and then pods me...
I Bought another Claw, after a few hours of searching. A Vagabond which i mistook for a stabber destroys me.
Another claw, killed by a rupture. 4th claw... Retubition got that one. 5th claw... SNIGG.. Again... 6th claw... Rupture
I decided after 6 claws (about 120 million in costs) that a webber was a must. So i put basically the same setup on a JAG, plate... 150's... web / scramble / MWD. Lost that after i warped to a gate after destroying a minercyclone.
So... Lets try another Jammerscorp because last time it was 3 V 1 and i thought i could do better. Destroyed by sentrys at a gate due to a lagout... In which SNIGG warped in and Podded me.
There were others, but these are the main ones i remember. This was over the course of about 2 months.
I did however have some success. I managed to make about 100 million in MODS and Ransoms but, Lets toll up what ive lost.
6 X Claws = 120 million with setups 1 X Wolf = 30 million with setups 1 X Jag = 30 million with setup 2 X Scorpions = 250 million with setups 1 X Tempest = 150 million with setup
580 million in losses. 400 million in the bank. 100 million made. Bringing me to a grand total of -80 million and no ships left (I would like to thank my friends for the extra ISK, They know who they are).
Some advice for young, budding pirates. Pick your fights wisely. Know the area you hunt in, and dont attack Ushra' Khan whilst in their home system.
Laugh and flame all you want, but its a lesson well learned... and i think others should be able to see just how bad i actually am at being a pirate.
Methinks its time for me to retire, its been fun. Ive realised that either solopirating is hard, or i suck... More likley the latter.
Im not going to become a carebear, but im going to focus more on the "run away" tactic rather than the "Stand fast a die proud" option ive been following.
Im currently flying my shield tanking stiletto, ratting in belts of lowsec and running away, as fast as i can, when danger appears.
YARRR!! i mean err... AHHH RUN AWAY!
Soul.

Come on, the emptey pockets will make u learn more and think of more I think.
I had a touch of that proud fighting to I say pop thing in the beginning, it's not really good for anything when u r alone! In a gang , diffrent story!
But GL and read the thingys ontop seem to work after todays read.

Worst pirate? I don't think so. Unluckiest? Quite possibly.
As you say, the only way is up.
Good luck

Learning new set ups and methods of play invariably leads to the loss of ships...
I lost about 15 taranis before I fully got to grips with them

Takes more than knowing your own ship to be good at PvP, check out the setup threads and get to grips with the common setups and obv. know your own ships limits and you should be well on the way.

Anti-pirate? Never!
If a pirate attacks me, i'll shoot back. Im by no means scared of PvP, Just a little more cautious than before.
MWD = Life saver! When you cant warp.... running 300km away is the next best thing!

lol good read and funny story.
Not to worry, there are basically 2 types of PvPers in eve.
1) Those that take chances, get blown up a lot at first, but learn from it and end up a pretty good PvPer one day.
2) Those that fight very conservatively and run from any non-guaranteed-victory-fight. These types never become good PvPers, just good blobbers.
I'd say you sound like a strong candidate for category #1. Keep it up, but make sure you fly some cheaper ships so you can learn without breaking the bank next time. Unless you have a never ending supply of isk, which most of us don't.
Welcome to pirating my friend. Once you hit outlaw security status, it gets even more fun! _______________________________________________

rofl and all that.. but good on you for trying, i would always be too wimpy to do stuff like that
However, I would go for cheaper tech 1 ships like a kestral, or a rifter or something and use that instead.. till you get better, then move up, maybe to either tech2 frigs or maybe a cruiser like a stabber.. that way you can get better without losing a whole wad of ISK.

Everyone has their bad days I guess.
Losing ships, and getting used to PVP is the only way you learn to be an effective fighter.
Good luck in your quest to learn the art of real piracy.

You screwed up right from the start, never give anything back!!!!
And I dont agree with you, you are not the worst pirate in eve, the above removes you from that category all together.
But tbh, you and Zarquon act like twins

I personally have never lost a ship whilst solo pirating, always seem to happen when I fight in a group. Just be cautious, paranoid, and try to predict what the other guy is doing, and choose your fights wisely. Heh, maybe I've only run into people that suck, maybe I'm lucky, but it can be done.

Patience it is a pirates best virtue (along with being able to yell 'yarr!' really loudly). If you think you won't win, don't fight. Piracy isn't about honor or bravery, it's about making as much money as possible.
Be patient, use the scanner, and only attack when you know you'll win. ___________ Nero Scuro's alt, until thursday Saturday when I can pay my damn credit card bill. (I hate Natwest) |

Solo pirating is really hard - even the thoughest sometimes have more losses than they earn. Sad that a new pirate player has no chance to develop - it¦s balancing, copyright CCP.
Team up with some reliable corpmates.
Try a Teddybear spawn or the Teddybear complexes in Pure Blind, Syndicate or empire. |

I suck at pirating solo. I've hit a dry patch recently and lost:
3xTaranis 1xThorax 1xBlackbird 1xIncursus 1xKestrel 1xTristan
without any solo success to show for it.
I have recently resolved to stay the hell away from solo PvP, spend a lot more time on SiSi tweaking my tactics and set-ups, and in the meantime only operate in gangs.

Lol yeh, i know the muffinman on cranberry lane.
Oh, he got one of my claws too. Whenever i see anyone in SNIGG, MAFIA, BnK, TSBS, TORY etc etc i always like to stop and say hi.
Little after i made this post i was following a MAFIA member around, i think i was annoying him but im not too worried about it. He was in a ferox, searching belts and i was in my ranis following him lol. Everytime he locked onto me i MWD and kept range at 200km hardi har har har.
