Cheers, LOWA
We'll be releasing a quick little trailer during fanfest this year. We'll then decide if we will release the trailer to the forums after fanfest.

Bah! Missing out on FF (again!) but on the other hand I will be zipping free drinks in the sun at a very nice hotel in Egypt instead. Have fun on that freezin dead rock...
I expect to see it on the forums upon my return! Or else...

Edited by: CptEagle on 28/09/2005 19:27:38 Thats hot! I love how you've given them more details. Puts my Scorp WIP to shame. :(
Will these fine models be released so other peoples can have fun with them?

I'd like to make a quick little comment about all the posts in this thread that deal with CCP. First off please don't compare the work in this movie with CCP's work in a game, it's like comparing apples to oranges, and it's useless. CCP IS the reason this movie is being made. Everyone of us working on this movie are subscribers to the game and have been for a long time. This game has given us incredible inspiration and the will to try to pull off such a huge goal.
Second, reproducing model concepts is one thing, coming up with the original design concepts for these ships is much different and far more difficult. I'm not insulting Shades ability because I've seen some of his original model concepts and they are just as good if not better than anything your seeing here in this thread, but I'm sure he would say the same thing in regards to the two skills. We are making this movie because we love what CCP has given us in a game and the community that supports it. Bashing CCP to compliment us hurts and is unwanted.

Heh, the worst looking ships ingame are made the best looking here: The apoc looks like complete ship, and the tempest looks like a ship!
Awesome details on the scorp too. The close-up on the mega became my new wallpaper...

Edited by: Spartan III on 29/09/2005 13:01:44 Hey I wonder what the CCP official modelers think of this...
*Back at CCP the official modelers hide in closets and under there desks shaking and scared that the day will come when Mr. CCP sees the EVOL teams models...*
Oh well they probably shouldn't lose sleep or eve-time over it.
2 other things... You people shouldn't just be giving all the credit to "him" as they are a whole team and the models wouldn't exist without all of "them"
1 last thing... Hey biff ever thought about having a 1 mill view fee for the two weeks of viewing the episodes when they come out? Thousands of people will want to see the movies and if it was like 1 mill for each episode (as I am guessing you will not release them all at once) then you could split it between your team and make a few bill. And all the noobs that don't have a mill to spare can just wait 2 weeks to view it. _______________________________________________ Member - [CHRST] Christian Fellowship Foundation

If you look into Shades site there's more Eve art including short clips.
You can also see that he currently isn't employed with any graphical jobs, and his website (and this project) would just be to add to his profile.
Shade: Keep up the work man, amazing models and you'll get noticed for projects like this (I hope. Because it's awesome work). _________________________________________________________

Shade: Great modelling work, but PLEASE scrap the Flash-based site and give us a pure HTML one to get around it quicker :)
Thanks, and keep up the great effort!

Isn't polygon count a consideration as well? Those models have way more detail in game since they'll only be used in a video once, not over and over in real time on low to high end PC video cards. :) If you had that level of detail in game, your frame rate would be expressed in frames per minute instead of frames per second.

"Isn't polygon count a consideration as well?"
Aye; for example, the in-game Scorpion is buit from ~5.5k triangles, only 2k of them actually being the visible model.
For video work this can be increased by thousands, because frames don't need to be calculated real-time...

Very impressive modelling Shade, I especially admire the features added where the game models have less definition, and the alternative designs for the command bridges. If your project needs additional help modelling/texturing/animating I may be able to assist.

Do you maintain the model pieces as sub divisional polygons or collapse them to an editable polygon to detail?

Yeah and for those saying get these models in game if they did the game would be completely unplayable with those kinds of poly counts.
Awesome models what modeling package? 3DS? LW? Maya? SI?

dude, you dont know what you're talking about lol.... I've run about 30 490k models in one scene and animated them all. Wasnt hard. You need to understand that the PCs the CG artists like myself and Shade use are far beyond most gamer's PC. For instance I run 11gbs of DDR in my main work machine, 2 64bit 3.02ghz CPUs, X850 cards, etc.

"dude, you dont know what you're talking about lol.... I've run about 30 490k models in one scene and animated them all."
Am guessing "live" meant real-time, solid 60+ fps performance of the game client that's rendering the geometry for the player to see... not being able to move objects around and set keyframes in animation program, for frames that are then rendered in batch.
