I looked thourgh the boards - and all suggestions about Kestrels are abuot 2 patches old.
How they work now? ... missile boats any good now?
I'm fairly new to EVE - so looking for some info how to set up the ship.
Learning by own mistakes is fun, but too expensive fun for me atm. :/ :)

It's the difficulty level. 1/10 is the easiest, 10/10 is the hardest.

Perfect boat for most Level1 combat missions.
There is another thread (in these forums?) that dicusses their setups, and the main complaint is the inability to load four missile launchers simultaneously with low skills. I have never had that issue. I am currently running nothing fancy:
4* Standard Missile Launcher I Small Shield Booster 2* Power Diagnostic systems (increase four different ship stats by 3 to 7%)
I load Sabretooths in two and Bloodclaws in the other two. All targets get two missiles (one of each) until I learn what they can take. There is a fair amount of kiting involved with multiple targets (and since I don't mount an AB, you have to be careful) but targets drop quick.
You really need decent skills to fly a Kestrel adequately to offset the weaknesses. I will be finished with Weapon Upgrades 3 tonight and this should allow me to change my setup a bit, my pertinent missile skills are all 3, and the basics (Engineering, Electronics, Navigation, etc.) are all 3 as well.
I also use the Kestrel to rat in low sec space, and I was able to take down 50K rats without issue. This was BEFORE the recent AI patch, so I suggest you start smaller before you try it. The biggest issue I have with her (and my current skills) is top speed. For courier type missions I use a Condor with AB; for Mining I have a Bantam fitted out to mine, and for combat I use the Kestrel. Right tool for the right job :).
Lastly, don't use them for Level2 missions. Upgrade to a cruiser, and if you are following the Caldari path, missiles are a valid option. Up your skill points in the missile tree and buy a Caracal. This avoids hybrid turrets entirely and allows you to devote more skill points to less weapons (and to other side skills that are directly relevant to the ship you are piloting).
Start small, practice, and good luck.

If you've the CPU for it, drop the nanos in favor of ballistic controls.
Depending on what you're going after, you may want to swap the web for a tracking disruptor or remote dampener.
(and as ever, best mods you can afford to lose :))

About the lvl2 missions (assuming you mean lvl2 Agent missions) - that's what I'm after ...
ATM I'm flying Merlin with 150mms and 2 launchers, shield booster, and warp core stabilizer (and some other modules (armor&hull repairs?!)
Anyhow - I CAN do lvl2 agent missions in it (done 3 so far) ... biggest baddy I've taken out was 56K bounty pirate (for some reason my missiles wouldnt hit him at more than 16K away - so had to orbit him at that distance to hit (rails alone were not beating his armor repair speed ;) ... so if I'm careful - I'm fine
I was just wondering - if Kestrel would allow me to complete those mish faster and safer.
(as for the cruiser - I'm still ways off on cash for that .. not to mention outfitting it so I dont loose it in the first battle)

Ok my kestrel setup
High 4 x Rocket Launchers (named if possible)
Med 1 x Afterburner (once again named if pos) 1 x Shield Booster T1 (T2 if you have the skill) 1 x Cap Booster I (with 50's)
Low Ballistic Control Cap Power Relay
The lows are pretty flexible, although would recommend something to help your cap, find this setup manages to sustain my shields while taking on 0.5 rats although I use a named Shield Booster T2
Hope that helps

Thats a nasty setup. But you have to time the webifiers well, you wont win if you get a blaster taranis to close
You wont win against my claw with its current setup either, I can tank that damage quite a long time.
For level 2 missions, I would use this setup: 4 * rockets ab, shield booster, kinetic passive hardener 2 * pdu
Not sure its enough for the harder ones, like informant unless you have gistii ab and gistii shield booster, but its the best I can think of.

Could you explain, in detail, why two webbers. Sorry, I am a noob. Is it you need the slow down power of two or do you have to time them so there is never a gap in the webbing?
Thanks

why pdu in low? its not make big diferense in so small ship i think 1x balistic 1x nanofiber can work better

i use a ballistic and 100mm nanofiber plate just wait till the mk2 - i will be able to fit 2 BCUs, and still go faster
and this is the first kes setup thread in a LONG time where no-one has mentioned standard launchers! \o/ progress at last...

There is a single kestrel setup that can kill any inty or AF in EVE with lots of luck and tons of skill. Naphtalia taught me this, and while I personally haven't used it much, I have seen it wreck countless ships that cost 20 times as much.
4xrocket (the better named the better, II is best) 2xweb, 1xdisruptor 1x400mm plate, 1xMAPC -- Proud member of the [23].

a combination of AB, warp scram, web and tracking disrupt for PvP this obv depends on what i'm fighting. with a web i have taken down inties. with a tracking disruptor, u can be almost impossible to hit to a lot of ppl
for PvE, i dnt fly a kes, but u can't go wrong by adding an extra cap recharger (real easy to fit - specially the low end named ones) i would definitely add an afterburner a passive hardener for the NPCs you are fighting is a good move as well (kinetic for guristas)

if you wanna hunt inties use
4 x rocket tech II 2 x webbers 1 x scram 1 x 400MM tung plate 1 x MAPC
that requires eng 5, elec 5, and weapon upgrades 5.....and thats with a 7.5km scram....but that should be enough with the 2 x webbers on board.....you'll spew rockets like crazy and have over 1000 armor :) if you must have a 20km scram, drop down to named launchers and it will fit.
for PvE/bad fitting skills use one of the MWD variants already listed....
