Adding my voice to the cries for help.
We need a way to organize cargo in freighters. We don't need more cargo space.
I don't care what the method is, just provide the functionality.

problem is, that you cannot put shrink-wrapped items in a freighter, or so I hear... Capital Ships Production Forum |

A pen and paper works great for this problem. - My posts on this forum do not represent the views of Eye of God or Ascendent Frontier. They are my words (unless quoted, obviously).

thats right, pen and paper work fine. unless your dealing with property of two or more people. or large amounts of modules and fitting-out equipment. or bulk amounts of Anything meant to be split over different deliveries. or just about Anything. folk just need a simple, Reasonable solution for most basic gameplay uses for the bloody ship.

Partitioning cargo holds would be a great idea... ahem, as a trade off for no longer being allowed into high sec space

Originally by: Sales Merchant Use a pen and paper or the ingame notepad to list whoose stuff is what in your cargo. Problem solved.
The reason containers are not allowed is people would use them to increase the capacity of thier freighters to something incredibly insane.
Putting 250 Giant containers in a 750,000m3 freighter would give you a extra 225,000m3 of space you didnt train for.
Read the topic.
He's NOT asking for the extra space, merely organisational ability/
We moved our corps stuff in one.
A piece od paper and a pen is not sufficient.

Have you even flown a freighter at all? Have you used a freighter to move multiple corp/alliance member's stuff at all?
If you had, you would not say this.

OK heres a partial fix (until a container system appears)
Simply Create a courier mission for all of one persons stuff.
Its wraped for a fee of 850isk & trackable.
Not quite a solution but not rocket science either

Maybe the best solution would be to allow players to select multiple items within thier own inventory and allow them to package into a container (ie plastic wrap) which they can name as they please and trade to thier frieghter player.
All CCP needs to do is give players an option of creating package bundles which can be placed in to haulers. With of course restrictions of illegal items not allowed to be packaged.
For added security you could place password protection of said packages. "We worship Strength because it is through strength that all other values are made possible"

why not a skill solution?. it connects the ability of moving stuff organized too much to the freighter pilot.
+ a special freighter container (with lets say 5k or 10k cargo, non-anchorable, maybe with password, sold by npc corps) can be bought by the guy who wants his stuff to go into the freighter move. the container is then just handed over to the freighter pilot. guy escorts the freighter and gets his container back on arrival.
problem solved (and adding a new module in the database should be easy too)

signed (for freighter containers).
There is no reason why this wouldnt be implemented. There are plenty of reasons for creating some sort of container (no storage bonus like giants).

You can not use the escrow package in a freighter.
They should make "Freighter storage crates." These crates are 5000m¦ and only can fit in Freighters, they look like those boxes UPS places on thier planes.
For now. I do use the escrow method to list my items I am giving my pilot.
I first escrow the items to him and when it gives me my escrow list i copy it and paste it to a evemail, word doc, note pad.... I dont have to type anything. -------------------------- Does it matter why, its when is more crucial!

A temporary solution - though a bit of a burden (but easier than pen/paper).
1. Anyone who wants to give the freighter pilot goods to transport escrows those goods to that pilot.
2. When the freighter pilot claims the escrow, they cut/paste the information from the 'You are about to claim the following:' message box to their notepad.
This can be used to 'organize' the load. Not pretty, but at least you can keep your paperless office that way.

Shrink wrap. If I want to hire ****take to haul stuff for me I want to give him a shrink wrapped container so I know if he has been rooting through my packages while bored en route.
I hate being asked things like "How many RCU's did you have? 25? I spilled water on my pad of paper..."
It's silly to have a freightor (meant to haul mutliple peoples items) and NOT have something like this. Its shortsighted tbh.

Edited by: Lo3d3R on 02/10/2005 23:08:20 you should just be able to assign and label a certain ammount of gargospace... e.g. :
right click in bay -> make label + fill in desired ammount of m¦ (-> ammount gets subracted from the initial gargo window + you see your newly made label back in to a anchored new tab/window with the ammount of m¦ in the allready existing gargo window)
simple isnt it, just like you can sort your drones kinda way, its a freighter for godsake, not another skill for this, should be a feature.

I totally agree, filling my freighter with kit (got 120 BPCs/BPOs) that i wish i could sort. You can take unasembled cans however. But yeah some sorta system to divide things into different cargo sections would be brilliant :)

I like the plastic wrap idea. Not so much with the containers though.
Plastic wraps would help even those too poor to buy a frighter as it would be useful in haulers too.

The fixed size compartment idea wont work simply because u wont be able to move the outpost platform then.

Shrink wrap 4tw
Control click -> Select which items you want -> Right click -> Shrink Wrap
All items are packaged into a shrink wrap which can be labelled with whatever and takes up as much room as it should, so no benefit can be gained
Job done. Also useful for hauling with standard haulers and transports. I really dont see any problem with it

I just scimed the thread so this has probs been suggested but:
Quick fix would be new type of cargo can - like the station cans etc
Freighter can - small/med/large/giant etc - with no extra volume plank bubble crap :)

Yes definitely. My wife and I spent several minutes calculating splits, making notes, and shift clicking for a mining op we did useing an Industrial to haul, I can only imagine the nightmare a freighter pilot would have. Shrink wrap would have infinite uses and I know I would use it frequently.

Try reading his post. He doesn't want the extra cargo space (or at least, he's not asking for it). He wants a simple method of subdividing stuff. Might even be a genuine use for the smaller breeds of station containers .

well noo...
but...
having been in warehousing for 20+ years, Inventory has become one of those "second nature" tasks. A little time and effort surely would be far more beneficial than complaining.
IMHO, the Freighters should be configurable to allow the pilot to create compartments within his ship.

The other day i moved an alliance corps entire hanger for them. there was 520,000 m3 and 1,807 stacks of items. I would never ever use a pen and a pad for this. Sadly I have 942,000 m3 so i was just over half full and could not move anyone elses stuff at the same time due to this very issue.
I like the idea of shrinking wrapping. Making it so we can put shrink wrapped stuff in the freighters cargohold would make all the difference and its something that is already coded into the game.
also, there is the station container or soemthing not the really big one, but the one that is only 100,000 m3 and gives no cargo bonus. If this could be used in a freighter it is something it is already ingame and would allow a pilot to split their hold into 100,000 m3 blocks. that seems rather easy.
anyways yes please give us a way to organize that hold.

Well, I guess we can tell you have never flown a freighter. You really are the smart one there.
The ideas here are really good. I hope the Dev teams looks this through.
